"It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations." I imagine Churchill wasn't being snooty here - he spent a lot more of his life as a doer rather than a thinker and so realised the value of distilling to a catchphrase. Lovely stuff Iain - please keep it up. I'm still trying to coax my karate mates to come to a seminar. Hopefully this summer.
Great video. & Especially with the emphasis on how our mindset is not only important in regards to getting up to train but also in application & awareness.
I think 🤔 itosu anko, saying. Is referring to the method as well. Sounds like akido talk. Stand up grappling comes to mind. As the best fit. Avoiding harm, using hands and feet. Against a villan or ruffian. I feel, defence against punches to be the best starting point. So karate is punch defence to take them to the ground, while staying on your feet. This is how i interpreted itosu's quote.
20 years ago I trained everyday.lack a fanatic. I even asked for the keys to the keys to the dojo to train on Sundays. What happened with my blue belt? Failire for " lack of Conviction". The techinque was perfect. I executed the kata perfectly. Lack of Conviction? What because I'm a woman? That was my initial thought. Until i spoke to a female instructor of mine. That failure was the Greatest Lesson in my Life. Train everyday with Conviction as if your Life depended on it. The technique will soet itself out.
Various books and articles that they wrote. Itosu’s 10 precepts letter from 1908 is where his quotes come from: iainabernethy.co.uk/article/10-precepts-anko-itosu
I really like your posts, but I do wish you could speak a bit slower. I miss so much of the wisdom you are trying to impart, because my brain cannot keep up with the speed of your words. I have tried to use captions, but they do not understand your accent, and come up with some weird offerings. Not that there is anything wrong with an accent, I have one myself, coming from Glasgow. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Your comments in the description are a perfect example of "Karate Ni Sente Nashi" Get some verbal abuse into the trolls before they abuse you. Good lesson, sensei!
