Guys PLEASE DONT PERSECUTE ME FOR THIS ONE, and let me declare that I love Steven Universe a lot. However, throughout the show we are introduced to a sexless species of Aliens called “gems” they are created by organic materials, and have a kind of, infinite lifespan. However, the writers did make it so that gems before the human race even EXISTED to create gender roles and stuff, all used either they/them or she/her pronouns. Always. But, I kind of wish that in the show, Rebecca Sugar and the other writers introduced gems that use He/him pronouns. (Not fusions, like actual gems.) And let me just say that the W&W and enby representation was ahead of it’s time, like seriously. This show helped pass a lot of Lgbtq+ rights to us, and I’m really greatful for that. It’s just, wouldn’t it be like, really cool if we had gems that were M&M as well? This show has a lot of good representation already, but one thing that could help more people who are lgbtq+ would be showing firstly, what if we had gems that were Transmasc? Like let’s say we have a gem like, I don’t know, bone or something. Imagine that this type of gem mainly uses “She/her” pronouns, and one bone gem went by “He/him” instead, and I could see him facing discrimination from gems for being transgender and not being “correct” by using she/her. Or, we could have a gem like amber, and it could mainly use He/him, and one amber gem discovered that they liked using She/her, and they could be friends with the Bone gem! SEE?! And also, what if we had a M&M romance as well? Like a Moonstone gem, and he falls in love with a Helix gem, and I don’t think that the gem species itself would be against gay gems, I think it would be like “love isn’t necessary in our perfect society, not friendship, nor romance.” (I know gems are nonbinary and care less about this than us but let me remind you that the writers chose specifically to make gems to be female presenting only, I just wish that they had more representation. Because like, one of the best things ever is when all queer people have something to feel represented by! I just feel like it’s a missed opportunity, and it could have been really cool. And if you say “no, cuz writing gay relationships and being transgender is hard because none of the writers know what it’s like to be them,” then hire more writers to help them know how to write these characters. Like, cmon! Also, it would be cool to see a transgender gem that fuse’s with a gem that is like, female presenting. And they show the fusion experiencing disphoria, and leaving the fusion.)
