Some of My Favorite Ham Handheld Radios!

This video is geared towards the new Ham or anyone really that wants a decent little handheld radio for their main HT. Sure there are a lot more options, but these are just a few I put together in this particular video to help a new ham choose from some decent radios. Maybe go ahead and get the cheap chines radios. I have too many of them already. I'm always left just a bit wanting from them. Performance and features. For the most part at least. These on the list I've used often and have had great success with them. So I wanted to share them with you guys.

I agree, for $5 to $10 more they could make it cleaner. Still would be a bargain. I do like the USB C charging batteries we are seeing lately. Got to get my HAM license first then, 1 nice HT.

I bought the KG UV9D Mate based yours & 2 other channels reviews. I got the anniversary pack mostly for the second battery. It’s very confusing for a first time ‘newbie’. I appreciate the reviews you and others do. Right after I bought the Mate, the Q10G came out and I had some buyers remorse… but I’ll get over it. I appreciate your channel!!!

Well thank you for letting me know and for the kind words I appreciate it. I still use the mate all the time in fact I have two of them those are kind of my go-to emergency calls just because all the cool accessories they make it easy for charging add battery options I think it's a better choice for that. In fact I used it for a camping trip. I programmed in the repeaters where I was headed. Made a few contacts testing things out. I think the mate is an awesome choice and I like it that it's 10 watts. Thank you for the video! I remember from somewhere that the Wouxun KG-UV8H ham radio is the same as the Wouxun KG-935G GMRS radio, except for the frequency range. If so, the UV8H is a direct conversion radio. Since I have had some RX issues with the 935G, I would suggest opting for the UV9D or UV9D Mate, which are superhet radios. Likewise, the Yaesu FT-65 (direct conversion) is sometimes noticeably weaker RX-wise than the Wouxun KG-UVD1P (superhet), which is in the same price range.

@@SK-rj1ti I'm glad to hear you have noticed some lesser performance from the yaesu ft 65. Sometimes the reception is terrible. It just sounds weird sometimes almost distorted. Maybe I got a bad one I don't know but I haven't used it much because of that

@@northmanproject4007 I avoided using stronger words about the ft-65 not to hurt anyone's feelings. I kept it mainly so that I can claim I own a Yaesu:) My go-to radios are Wouxuns. Except for the 935G - I ended up giving it to a newb. Let them play with it.
