Hope scoot feels better soon! Also THANK YOU for saying what I have been biting my tongue in public for years! Long story short, I became disbaled 10 years ago, Dr. said no more work. I worked in the medical field, and I miss it. Anyhow I decided to start doing volunteer work with the homeless in the winter months, and I would also knit/crochet hats and gloves for the homeless/people in need, when hubby and I go to eat at a local restaurant we always annom pay for a Vets meal or an elderly couple we see sharing a meal, can't really afford it but that is what god tells me to do. Never asked for anything in return, just seeing the happiness that my small tokens of time gave people was all I needed. Well I became in need and filed for social security, I was denied, after being denied the 3rd time and mind you I had payed into the system since I was 16, I had to get a lawyer to win my SS. Turned out I was half a work credit short( I was a stay at home mom for a few years) so I could only get SSI. I never received any money just insurance. They went by what my hubby made which isn't a lot. he gets a decent hourly just not enough hours. Anyhow 10 years later my health is worse, had open heart 9 years ago, diabetic, severe neuropathy,among major artery issues, apparently I was born with very small arteries, and now cancer, Dr.s tell me I am a ticking time bomb healthwise and what did I get in return? A letter a few days ago, that my insurance from the state is being canceled, but yet when hubby takes me to the grocery store, I see people with brand new cars, not working, ( this I know because some are people who live near me) and have 1,000s on the EBT cards. It boggles my mind! One woman I know for a fact owns her own party rental company and she gets assistance! I know it's not my place to judge as I always say only God can judge me, but it's hard when you see people cheating the system and good folks get nothing. I have never asked anyone for anything in my life, I was taught to do for yourself and if you can't afford it you don't need it, well I need my insurance and they take it away? I guess it's because I followed the rules and was truthful. I feel like honest people don't get the American dream anymore, but everyone else does. Amen. I hope your little princess feels better. Thank you for taking the time to be a blessing to others. There are people that abuse the system. For example, some people sale the food stamps for money. The system is broken. I worked as worker and learned that food stamps was not initially intended for low-income families. Some where, somehow it became part of a safety net program. Please continue to be blessed and a blessing.
I totally get how she feels, since covid hit I can't cover everything and have never ask for help until recently and got turned down and for the life of me I would have never went there if I didn't need the help, they give it to a bunch of people who don't deserve it and the ones who truly need it and wait until it's a must to help with everything get turned down, I have a friend who needs help and she got down also, it's bad enough to have to ask for help but then they turn you down after going without help because you think you can manage to do it without help, idk what kind of world we live in anymore
My husband works 6 days straight and SHOULD be on SSI. When he applied for benefits he was told that he'd be lucky to get 20$ a month. Yet, a pair of kids with zero disabilities, zero jobs, are getting a little over $500 a month. Smh... This country needs to get it's $h!t straight.
Here the thing some of us are also on SSI and do get EBT too cause we can’t afford the food that you guys can get but you know what we also have addiction going on with cigarettes we can’t get on EBT so we use are SSI money for that so don’t go putting any of us down before you get to know are stores ok
I understand feeling frustrated when you work so hard, but continually see someone else get help when it seems as if they are not trying to help themselves. HOWEVER, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate - He COULD have been shopping for someone else. Maybe they asked him to pick up something since he was going anyway. Neither my Mom nor Aunt liked to shop. I shopped for them all the time.
I'm with you. Unfortunately most Americans are not ready or ok with the type of regulations that are needed. For instance in the state I live in if you get unemployment you must show you are actively seeking a job. Why do we give my tax money to people every first of the month who can work and they do not have to do nothing to get it. Oh and you family of 6 who is making 45,000 a year are making too much money to receive any assistance at all.
I work a job & may be taking on a second, & yes I live in government housing, but that is all I get. Not on any other assistance & I pay all the bills I have, & I am treading water. You have to learn that when it comes to money, use it for the important things, & leave the assistance to those who really do need it.
What if he was buying groceries for someone else with their card or vice versa what if he was picking up smokes for a friend without a vehicle or someone sick or u know whatever the case things aren't always so black and white I'm not saying I agree with the guys choices if they were his but we have to be fair and realistically look at all scenarios
You are so true my brother you won't believe this stories I could tell you about what I see with the government food assistance and how they live afterwards drive nicer car than I do if you want to be technical it's 2024 nobody should be getting assistance there is enough jobs in this world that nobody needs to have assistance if you can't afford the kids you got quit having kids
