Some Thoughts on Gus Johnson 

Ectopic pregnancies are so incredibly serious and life threatening. My mother nearly died from one. A quick Google would have shown Gus how serious it was for Sabrina. The fact he didn't want to get off his ass and go to the hospital for her really tells me all I need to know about his character.

"People are only being critical of you because they liked you... and they want to continue to like you" is so well put

i hate half assed fake "i'm becoming a better person" kind of apologies. i've been in a situation where i was being a shitty abusive person and i took months and months correcting every aspect of that so i wouldn't lose more people in my life. now, with these manipulators using the whole "i'm getting therapy and i'm sorry for what i did i was in a bad place blah blah blah" sounds like bullshit. so it's hard for people who have actually changed to have people really believe that they have. moral of the story: admit you're a bad person and what you did was shitty, don't expect forgiveness and last but not least. actually try to be better.

As a person with a uterus... I so relate to being dismissed by healthcare professionals. This poor woman 😢.

I’m someone who tends to be really cautious about parasocial relationships with creators (I’m an ex Onision fan- that expirence taught me A LOT), and I was really surprised by how much this whole situation affected me. I was so SO angry for Sabrina (which I think is warranted, as most women can understand her experience) but I was also just…crushingly disappointed by Gus. Like genuinely sad and just…well disappointed is the best word I have for it. He felt safe. He felt goofy and kind and caring, “boys support boys” and all that, and it gave me yet another big shakeup in comfort with people on the internet even though I was already being conscious about it. Just such a shitty situation and he’s such a disgusting person.

I feel bad that this woman's story of medical malpractice became a story about her, at best, unsuportive bf. More attention needs to be put on what happened to her, not her unnamed bf who's a side character in her whole story. @doctormamajones was who i first heard about her story and it certainly gives quite the perspective.

I remember seeing a comment in particular that said "sorry gus, I can't forgive you right now, I'm out getting drinks". It's just true to how he behaved

i remember commenting and some guy saying that sabrina was trying to use crying to guilt trip the viewers. i honestly couldnt believe it? like its insane to think that a woman telling a story about how she almost died was weaponizing her emotions.

This happens very often to women. Our pain is not taken seriously. It's also important to note that this happens more frequently to certain groups of people: black woman, indigenous woman, overweight woman, woman with history of mental illness, poor women for example. Of course to varying extents. It's truly traumatic and often dangerous. I'm glad Sabrina talked about her experience. Also this is small and a huge change in topic but it makes me happy you put 'boys support boys' in the description. It may seem odd as a woman. But I think men deserve the same sense of camaraderie and unity that women have, and it's nice to see that happen in a way that doesn't revolve around hating or judging women, even if it's such a small phrase. Anyway you seem like a swell guy so i will like this video

The first information I got on anything regarding this was that the ice pack video that Gus posted was a jab at Sabrina and I was like “that sounds like such a reach” but after watching Sabrina’s video in full idk how he could have came back with that video. Like is he psychotic or just a complete tone depth idiot??

Really scares me for the state of abortion rights in America, doctors will believe a dumbass man over a woman actively dying in front of them. That's why women need to have the right to make our own decisions, often times the very people who impregnate us don't even care. Let alone doctors... ugh

Man, people need to understand how goddamn helpless you'd feel if your life depended on the care of people who gaslight you and completely ignore your symptoms when you're in agony, and not only that, but your main source of comfort and support couldn't give two shits about supporting you in a stressful situation and gaslights you some more. Jfc I would've kicked him in the balls repeatedly.

This is a wonderfully measured take on the situation and I couldn't agree more. My heart is broken as a former fan of Gus' but I'm mainly heartbroken for Sabrina and what she suffered and secondarily Eddy for having to lose a friend and find out he was lied to for so long in such a public setting with everyone watching him. I hope they can take some time to heal. New subscriber BTW. 😊

Her video was about more than just the medical system failing women. It’s about how misogynistic culture leaves many women with no where to turn to. Other women are conditioned to dismiss feminine pain. Her own boyfriend dismissed it too. This isn’t uncommon among women and other people with uteruses even if it’s not the most common experience

Also when I think it was rhinoplasty Sabrina got, while she was in immense pain and in need of Gus' help, what was he doing? Streaming himself unboxing Pokemon cards, he even had the audacity to say "Yeah, Sabrina's doing great!" During the stream when someone asked.

Boys support boys means holding your boys accountable when they act horribly. Shit this video is great; you presented yourself well and the subject appropriately and I couldn't believe you had less than 1 thousand subscribers. Happy to be number 796!

This situation is so horrifying to me because I went through a similar thing, and to this day everyone still believes my ex over me. I'd been bleeding, nauseous, anemic, and so depressed I couldn't get out of bed for over a month. My fiance constantly cracked jokes about me being dramatic, just being psycho and hormonal, how I'd know "real" pain when I was closer to his age, etc. He suggested going to the ER once, but we both knew we couldn't afford it. Then I realized planned parenthood could help me for free or cheap, so I made an appointment, and as soon as I told him he got upset and went on a rant about how we can't afford it, and I was stupid for not asking permission, because he's tired of paying for everything and he had an eye doctor appointment the same week, so now I've messed up all our finances. So I canceled the appointment which made him stop yelling at me, and I kept suffering for another few weeks. Still have no idea what was wrong with me. I kind of hoped that I would die. At least I dumped that trainwreck.

The fact is, Eddy was Gus's greatest friend and even he distanced himself from Gus after everything that happened. Clearly there is a lot going on privately and that is all we need to know about the situation.

I went to high school with Sabrina and kept up with her on social media. I was super happy to see her succeed. Knowing that she was going through all this behind the scenes, breaks my heart :(

Thank you so much for this video. I totally agree. I really enjoyed Gus’s content, but I can’t support him anymore. The way he responded to this is so disappointing. He could have helped diffuse it, but only made it worse. It also hits home, as I had a friend that this happened to as well, she was turned away from the hospital multiple times, while pregnant. But her husband was at her side advocating for her and making sure they took it seriously. By the time they finally admitted her, sadly it was too late and she didn’t make it, but her husband was there with her, and I am forever grateful that he was. I can’t imagine how hard it was for Sabrina. I’m glad she made her video, and I hope she’s in a better place.

Thank you for talking this out. I feel her partner undermining her at the doctor is what almost got her killed. I am a woman that unless my husband is sitting next to me verifying what I am saying, the doctor doesn't take me as seriously. It is really sad.

I wasn’t aware of any of this before but the person that had the ectopic pregnancy really resonated with me. My wife had the same thing happen to her several months ago and the urgent care place she went to just gave her a prescription for treating gas and urinary tract infection. It took going to the ER after a few days when neither had any effect on her pain. She had something like a liter of blood in her abdomen.

having flashbacks to when i asked my ex to join me on a therapy session long after it was too far gone to save the relationship, and him just sitting there, glaring, like how dare he be dragged to something so boring and useless. thanks for this, definitely makes some of us feel less alone.

Great video, definitely subscribing. Sabrina’s story is terrifying. My mom experienced an ectopic pregnancy and it was very serious, and I can only imagine how much scarier it would have been if she didn’t have good doctors who actually listened to her.

when i had my miscarriage i had to be convinced to be taken to the hospital because i was worried about the exact same thing. people are taught all their lives that vagina havers sometimes bleed and have pain in such a vague and secretive way that when i was losing blood i thought "theyre just gonna tell me its a bad period and send me home". for gus, someone who talks so openly about women's issues, to be sitting there saying "well ask let me listen to u call the doctor so i know ur not lying about being in pain" just disgusts me

When I watched the video about her pregnancy I thought it wasn’t Gus because I didn’t know about the break up my husband and I where appalled at what the boyfriend did and I kept saying I’m glad she isn’t with someone who treats her like that anymore. It’s really sad how this all turned out, I do think her story is important because it’s very therapeutic as well. If anything I just feel disappointed by the actions taken but I think you out it all perfectly. I don’t do Twitter so I get all my updates on RU-vid I appreciate the well put together video.

The sad thing is this has become about Gus, while he was mentioned in her video, really Sabrinas video was about her and her traumatic experience. But now its all about Gus online. Also his thing about growing and being better than he was is bullshit. He treated her like shit when she was recovering from her nose job and that I think if I remember correctly was the final straw for her.

As much as I enjoyed Gus, His actions following everything coming out have proven to me that even if he starts to better himself now I would never be able to (nor willing) to trust him again. Even aside from the fact that there's *clearly* a lot more going on behind the scenes that we don't know about (Stuff that I'm sure would probably make this much much much worse), His actions in the public space are enough proof to know that he's not the person he wants you to think he is. And his fans going bloody murder to defend him and throw Sabrina under the bus says more than enough to me about what that community really was. Boys support Boys takes on a very different meaning now if you know what I mean. All in All, His public image will probably recover in time, as all abusers do, but knowing that he's only sorry it went public is enough for me to say he can't be trusted again.

Assigning anyone who calls Sabrina dramatic to write a 2 page paper on ectopic pregnancies before going back to making comments on the internet

This whole situation is very sad, but especially dystopian because while Sabrina shared a story of the misogyny she faced throughout a literal near-death experience, it ended up being all about Gus anyway. truly heartbreaking, I hope people can see through the "drama" and reflect on how this isn't just an individual experience - almost every AFAB person (including myself) I know has been through a similar experience.

This is also a white women and she almost died. That’s how much healthcare doesn’t care about women. Imagine being a black women in this situation. An undocumented women. A women with a criminal record. A women in jail. A disabled women. A women with no funds at all. It’s so common and so commendable she shared because I guarantee it helps someone in her audience

I feel sorry for any women who date Gus in the future. He clearly has a serious lack of empathy for women.

I agree most of it should have been able to be handled offline rather than through videos and tweets... The medical system in my country doesn't really go much better, with many unexperienced "professionals" just wanting to give patients some light medicine and tell them off in the most "if I solve your problem, you won't pay another appointment" way possible. Even worse is: if you're on the verge of crying, you're exaggerating; if you're holding back the tears, it's not serious enough because you're not visibly crying and either way you just lose; the problems then pile and pile up, with each time help is asked being a time someone completely apathetic to the situation picks it up, offers a non-solution with utmost confidence and you just keep dying mentally and/or physically. I think it really doesn't help that staff rotates a lot in hospitals, so you might come talk to a doctor about something specific, they don't care and send you on your way, but you could come back another time and they could start understanding that it's a serious problem... until you realize the entire staff is different on the other day you come, so you get another person who doesn't care (even if they read what the other doctor wrote for your previous appointment, because to them it's just words devoid of any weight). Women get dismissed as drama queens thirsting for attention and men get dismissed because they should "suck it up and be manlier"; it's honestly surprising things still are the way they are, considering how many people have so many issues of not being helped within a system that is theoretically designed to help people. Worst part is, I don't think I ever got an honest "I don't know" from a doctor - it becomes a system where the mistrust gets built more and more because they clearly are lying about knowing the solution, but never bring themselves to tell the truth... and I could say telling the truth would make it easier for them to not be held accountable for stupidities, but they'll never be held accountable anyway. I don't mean that it's impossible to sue this behavior, but the bureaucracy is so tiring, that simply getting a minimal amount of justice done through the lawful ways takes literal months to *maybe* produce the expected result - that is, if they don't hire a better lawyer to pull an obscure law out of their ass and completely save their client from accusations of negligence.

i'll be honest, for a long time i'd just ignored everything that had been going on, i'm guessing mainly because of the way i'd seen it framed as "online drama" like you said. there's also just a part of me that recoils from anything where Content Creators' personal lives are put way too out in the open, so i just hadn't looked into this any further than the very basic overview i got from a few tweets. thanks for making this video (and making it effectively!), i feel kinda guilty that i didn't do it already but i'm glad i've finally unsubcribed from gus now.

I think the critical comments on the apology video coming in late might have been that the people who commented early were those who are still following him, while the ones who no longer support him are most likely unsubscribed and only found out about it through other people

Even if Gus had made a better apology I don't think I'd be able to continue to enjoy watching his videos now that I know how he treated his girlfriend in private. The behavior that Sabrina described is exactly the kind of thing that I'm terrified of experiencing in a relationship, and now I can't look at Gus the same or enjoy his content knowing how he treated Sabrina during their relationship

one year later this popped up in my recomended and since I was a fan of gus at some point I peeked at his youtube channel and holy sh guys. He gets 300K views now, vs at least 2-3M 2 years ago. One skit from 3 years even has 48M. He really wanted to seem unbothered with the whole thing but I guess the internet is karma.

I had only seen Gus' apology video. I had no idea about everything else. Holy shit. Just the fact that Eddy broke up with us over this tells you how bad it is behind closed doors.

i’ve been a fan of eddie for a long time but never gus. any time he would show up in eddie’s videos he always gave me bad vibes. i couldn’t really pinpoint why but he seemed creepy and fake. he seemed like a mean person who put on a persona of being a funny person and i was confused that everyone couldn’t see through it. i just really didn’t like him and avoided watching him. when this came out i kinda wasn’t surprised. i had a feeling he was an asshole. he was an asshole. i wasn’t really interested in the drama though, because it just wasn’t that shocking, so i’d never watched abelina sabrina’s video. those clips you showed were horrific. they genuinely made me tear up. somehow it’s even worse than i thought it was. i hope she finds peace and is surrounded by people who love and appreciate her

I was one of the more unsure people on Gus's channel. I didn't know how to feel because I didn't know the whole story. I looked at the comments and felt that whatever he did was fine. I soon decided to watch your video and then Sabrina's and I am completely horrified and disgusted. I unfollowed him so fast and completely despise him.

I think personally that the people who NEED to be cancelled are those who use their platforms to prey on people like the Paul’s selling expensive merch or concepts to children or people like Ryan Haywood or any sleepy director that grooms or uses their position to take advantage of people particularly in sexual situations. By these terms Gus shouldn’t be cancelled, but at the same time Gus put on this show of being this “beacon of hope”, just this goofy dude who makes people happy, and calls out assholes like Chris Brown, but with this situation I feel awful for Sabrina, she deserves so much better and she almost died. So although Gus shouldn’t be “cancelled” by my usual parameters, I just can’t watch his content anymore because of all this. He is no longer that happy sweet goofy guy that he presented himself as and the fans he have left are 99% just toxic misogynistic Stan’s who blame Sabrina for this, even though she is truly the victim to both the medical care system and to Gus, it’s just a sad, messed up situation.

In fact, if I had a dollar for every single time someone treated me EXACTLY the way that he treated her, I'd go have steak & potatoes with a big, beautiful dessert tonight from Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. It's _extremely disappointing_ that in this damned day and age people are so ridiculously dismissive of serious health issues happening to others! Human nature doesn’t just change. “I’m a new person” is not true. You’ll always be the same person, it just depends on how you work on yourself in the future to prevent the same things from happening. I doubt he’s worked on himself.

Seems to me like she was extremely emotional and needed more than gus was offering I don’t see what’s abusive but I don’t know much about what happened. Glad Sabrina is doing well now and I hope gus does well also.
