The greatest frontman to ever grace the stage. Brian (Guitarist) could have fronted any other band he wanted, and Roger (The Drummer) could have done the same. They were a family and they protected each other (Freddie Mercury's final days, an eighteen-minute documentary shows), and even when they parted ways in 1986 after the 1985 farm aid (they stole the stage) never lost touch. Truly amazing.
Queen were a great rock band. I'm glad you chose to react to one of their live concert performances. Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest lead singers of any rock band and he was such a showman on stage. If you want to explore more of their music, I have suggestions of several of their best songs for you to react to. They are "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Are The Champions", "We Will Rock You", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Another One Bites The Dust", and "Under Pressure". As an Elvis fan, I think you'd really appreciate "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". It is a rockabilly-type song that Elvis would've recorded. Also, Freddie sings this song in an Elvis-style vocals. Love your channel.
They have been considered one of if not THE best live band, Another one I think you would love is White Queen at the A Night at the Odeon, Hammersmith 1975. As far as I know he had no formal training.
He was not classically trained, he was trained as an artist (you can see lots of his artistry in the logo he created for Queen and many more examples) he was the Leonardo of music and art.
Something as simple as him saying "ok let's do it and the crowd just erupts" he was once asked "what is your favourite instrument Freddie his answer the crowd baby" pure genius.
Greetings Dani. I saw Queen live back in Oregon 1980 and it was the best concert I have ever seen. The album "another one bites the dust" concert. Freddy sure could sing back in the day and he had a horrible death. I am also happy you have been paying tribute to my favorite performer of all time, namely: Elvis. You rock and thank you for your reviews:)
This was Freddie's (vocalist) favorite song. He adored sharing it with fans. It was inspired by Aretha Franklin, his idol. The falsetta voice that you hear is Roger Taylor (drummer).
Now you are an even more highly esteemed youtube reactor than you were before. :D All self-respecting reactors have to have this epic masterpiece of a performance on their list. :D
Love your reaction to this, spot on. This was a very tragic loss to music at a young age. Queen was truly one of the best live bands ever, can engage a crowd like no other. If you want more check out the Live Aid concert in full, about 20 minutes.
One of my favorite bands I first saw them on the midnight special and I was hooked kids at school thought I was nuts but didn’t take them long to see what I did
Hi, Dani, awesome reaction. You should check out White Queen (A Night At The Odeon - Hammersmith 1975). I think you'll really dig it. Freddie's voice and piano + Brian's lyrics and guitar is honestly mesmerizing. It gives me shivers every time. And, of course, check out any of their live numbers from Wembley (or anywhere, really). You honestly can't go wrong.
This is a man dying from Aids in the early 80s. He is pouring out his soul close to when his body dies. His musical talent is is last gift to us before he moves on to the next level. RiP Freddie: you burned out in a righteous flame, you will never fade away.
In the song “Bicycle” part of the lyrics goes, “I don’t believe in Peter Pan, Frankenstein or Superman” and Freddy is wearing a Superman shirt in this video. Haha
I have this DVD. There are spots where Freddie was kind of bummed that the audience wasn't as "into it" as he wanted. In hindsight it makes sense. He was a total showman.
My all time favorite live performance ❤❤❤ Freddie didn't have any classical training in singing. He was in a choir at school but that's it. He learned the way he sang all by himself. He's absolutely amazing. You have to check out Live Aid. And also please react to Another One Bites The Dust live from Wembley ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HnCgN4knr0Y.html
You should watch Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody and also Queen's whole set from Live Aid (bearing in mind that, apparently, that performance was after Freddie had found out he had AIDS, which would heartbrakingly take his life, he had already started to feel it's effects). Queen's performance at Live Aid (Wembley Stadium, London - There was also a simultaneous concert at John. F. Kennedy stadium in Philadelphia) was in front of an audience of 90,000 in the stadium as well as an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations, watching the live broadcast, nearly 40% of the world population. Queen stole the show and had complete and utter command of the crowd.
Think he trained operatic when he was younger. A few years after this his voice started to wane. Drugs, lifestyle and ultimately Aids led to his very sad demise. Such a brilliant talent and a superb band.
Dani, you really should look at their performance on Live Aid. Generally seen as one of the greatest live performances in the world regardless of what band/artist. It´s even more impressing considering that Freddi was very sick from aids. They weren´t sure it would be a good idea for him to do it but it ended up being the apex of their carreer. To answer your question about Freddie´s training; he had none. But he enjoyed most styles of music including classical music and opera. One of his best friends was Monsterrat Caballet, a Spanish operasinger whom he also recorded "Barcelona" with
Freddie is amazing, but guess what, you also just heard your first live singing from the drummer, not bad either! Go back and check him out. The entire band were just so super talented multi musicians 👍🏼
It's interesting that you described it as "operatic." Opera was a big influence on Freddie. Their 1975 album that featured "Bohemian Rhapsody" was called "A Night at the Opera."
Welcome to the stage...The incomparable, the stellar, the Greatest showman of any genre who ever lived . The legendary: Freddie Mercury ! Queen was to Rock / PoP music what Mozart was to classical. They didn't write songs. They composed MASTERPIECES ! I have loved this band since I first heard them as a boy in 1975 .Thank you for a great reaction, I especially love how you tempted fate by respecting the music and the viewers enough to not stop the song every 10 seconds with senseless blather like so many reactors do . You stopped a few times and when you reacted by giving us your thoughts it was all relevant to the moment . Well done . Now you need to go give lessons to many other reactors on You tube who just don't get how it's done heheh , This is why you got my like and Subscription. Keep up the good work, I'll be back .! bY THE WAY Try Queen live at the Odeon hammersmith (white Queen) Me thinks you will be impressed.
Freddie never had even one voice lesson. His Aunt taught him some piano when he was a little boy and he picked up the rest. He had a God given talent with an incredible 5-6 octave range and he could sing anything from Opera to Metal. You should react to White Queen live at Hammersmith Oden 1975 and Love of My Live live at Wembley 1986 to experience that gorgeous voice. For a mind blowing experience listen to Exercises in Free Love done by Freddie alone when recording it to bring to an Opera singer he was going to collaborate with in 1987. It sounds like what one would think the sound would be when the gates of Heaven open.
There is much more to having a beautiful voice than octave levels reached. His voice was not soft and sweet. It was austere There is no pain, no yearning, no joy, no sweetness to his tone.Every voice sounds the same in all his songs.Elvis had 50 voices and you could feel the blood coming from his heart when he sang.Elvis felt ever note. This guy has exceptional talent but where are the millions who celebrate the anniversaries of his death and birth?Where are the billion of people who have loved him.Elvis is still loved across the world and will be for years to come.
@@mmaloneym For some reason your reply was edited. But you are right. We are basing our criteria of greatness on two different standards.I will close conversation by saying the great opera singer Pavarotti said of Elvis, "Elvis can sing like me, but I can't sing like Elvis.Evidence of exquisite talent recognizing an even superior talent.May they rest in peace.
I am a fan of you Miss Dani Atkinson I liked your honest and genuine reaction to other artists and I’d like also your cover song of UNCHAINED MELODY. I had made a lot of request for you to react more to Pilipino talents and artists but your latest uploads are Elvis Presley and the band Doors.. I am still waiting for you to react to Pilipino artists and by the way try to see and listen to Pauline Agupitan version of UNCHAINED MELODY (@TNT-Tawag Ng Tanghalan)-Thank You!!!👍🎤🎧🎹🎶🎶🎶👈❤️🇵🇭
@@carolynconnor4895 true, straight from Brian and Roger. There are videos out there with Brian and Roger’s commentary throughout the Montreal concert film in whole and broken down by song.
The Director wanted the crowd to stay pretty quiet and not move around much. Freddie and the guys weren't happy about that. They loved people to enjoy themselves proper!!
I thought I had posted this earlier. Apologies. The link will give more details of Montreal. twistedsifter.com/2019/03/the-best-ever-live-footage-of-queen-montreal-1981-remastered/
Freddie Mercury: the greatest singer, songwriter, musician and frontman of all time! Freddie was pretty much self taught ( except for choir at Boarding School). Brian May jokes that when they first got Queen together, Freddie wasn't the great singer we know now. But after less then a month of being able to listen back to the tapes of his singing, he became the Freddie we know. The raw talent was there, Freddie just had to figure out how to use his incredible voice. I highly recommend the live version of White Queen and You Take My Breath Away. They will blow you away!
Dani Atkinson White Queen Live At Hammersmith Odeon 1975 to be exact. Queen is the only band in history where each member wrote a #1 song while part of the same band. The band is composed of 4 very talented musicians, although John Deacon, bass, would be first to admit he doesn’t sing, the other 3 were singers. Freddy often said he wasn’t the leader of the band, just the lead singer. The other 3 were happy to let Freddy be the focus of the band, but they all contributed to the music. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Queen isn’t part of Freddy Mercury....Freddy Mercury is part of Queen. Don’t underestimate the rest of the band 😉. Freddy was the GOAT of front men though!
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 Both are great. I'd give the nod to Live Aid. On a world wide stage, Queen blew away some of the greatest bands. They stole the show that day.
I had the privilege of seeing Queen LIVE in Florida in 1977 (Senior year of High School). It remains the best single concert I have ever attended. The energy pulsating through the crowd was almost overwhelming. They performed for 2 1/2 hours but we would have stayed forever. I'm thrilled that so many young people are discovering this amazing group of musicians -- it just proves that truly great music is timeless.
Dani React to Barcelona; He is singing a duet with a opera singer which is superb. I hated we lost him so early. You'll reach 10,000 before you know it. Thank You thank You Very Much.
Freddie had such charisma, no one could command an audience like he could. Freddie never had singing lessons, and he could and did cover every genre of music you can name, including opera. He did an entire album with Montserrat Cabale.
Welcome to the world of Queen. Freddie was amazing, probably the best frontman that ever was or ever will be BUT to refer to Roger and Brian as "backup singers" is to short change these amazingly talented men. This is the only band in history that each of the 4 members wrote number one hits. John Deacon always said "he could not sing" but boy could he play bass and write music. You can find a wealth of Queen on their official You Tube channel. They are hands down the best band EVER
Nice reaction! Yes, Freddie is the greatest. But I always think reactors are very remiss in not commenting on drummer Roger Taylor’s immense contribution to this performance. Harmonizing while playing drums. Phenomenal. All of them together create the “Queen sound.”
Can see you appreciate not just his voice but Brian on lead guitar and roger on drums. Please check out white queen at hammersmith Apollo. It’s more progressive rock and the instrumental mid song is 🔥 that and you take my breath away Hyde park you will appreciate. Then of course there’s live aid maybe the most famous performance and music set of all time. Queen 👊🏻🇬🇧
Oh an welcome to the World of the greatest frontman in History. Other top class lead singers in their own right have also said it to be the case! And greatest band.
Freddie had no formal training in singing or music. Some piano lessons in boarding school but he could not sight read music at all. If he heard a song once he could play it and he composed in his head then took it to the piano. His education was in design but he preferred music as did the others in the group. All have college degrees, Brian May the guitar player has a PhD in astrophysics, Roger the drummer a degree in biology and was in dental school when he opted to do music instead and John the bass player has a degree in electronics. Talented band to be sure.
Brian May does not just have degree in Astrophysics as a small aside either. He wrote a thesis on space dust (there is a review of this available on youtube by Doctor Becky Smethurst of Oxford university), and consulted with NASA on their New Horizons probe.

He had no soul.Who would ever believe him if he sang a gospel song.No way could he pour spirituality into a gospel song. And look at that face.Only a mother could love.He cannot come close to gorgeous Elvis.
@@margarettaylor8107 Have a word with yourself,I'm no Freddie fan but even I have to admit that he is the greatest frontman ever and it is a privilege just to watch him perform,Elvis didnt have a fraction of the vocal range of this man so it's ridiculous even comparing them, also Elvis didnt have a commanding stage presence like Freddie did and as far as showmanship is concerned Freddie is way out on his own.. Imo Elvis, good a singer as he was was a bit bland and sang in constant deep voice whereas Freddie had every level up to falsetto..no contest
When Freddie and Brian performed, “Love of My Life” live in Brazil, Freddie had the whole crowd singing so loud that they almost drowned him out. He wasn’t just the greatest rock vocalist of his generation, he was also the greatest entertainer on stage as well.
Great reaction great performance ,such a great band live please listen to save me ,I'm sure it's from this concert in Montreal beautiful song ,I love the live stuff but certain songs should be heard in the studio version purely for the harmonies no technology back then just raw talent ,try take my breath away official beautiful ,thank you stay safe from Liverpool UK
Freddie 🎹🎼❤️, Brian 🎸❣️, Roger ❣️🥁, John Bass🎸❣️. Phenomenal band ... nice reaction will come back for more ... Love of my Life ... no vocal training at all. Ahh you are classically trained ... go see his work with Monserrat Caballe ... yes the incredible opera singer !!! Barcelona and others
@@thanksmr.obvious6427 one of my absolute favourites 👍🌹and also Rachmaninovs Revenge - early version is my preference but many like the later version. 💐
Great reaction. Queen at Live Aid 20 minute set is a must watch. Many consider it the greatest rock performance in history and after watching, I get why.
You can hear Freddie practicing his operatic voice in "Exercises in Free Love" He could hit just about every note from the bottom of the keyboard to the top. He was a vocal God. He detested lip syncing. He and the band were always better live than recorded, because they were better than the editing machines. Even on the rare occasion Freddie's voice cracked....he still did it in tune...lol. He has been recently nicknamed the human auto tune, since they didn't have back when he was singing. He wouldn't have needed it anyhow 😀
Exercises In Free Love is not really opera, it is countertenor. If you want to hear Freddie singing opera you have to listen to Ensueno - Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vZ7OLCPsiiE.html.
@@DaniAtkinson When they were on Top of The Pops (a British music chart show that used to give you the top 40 pop hits every week) because they all had to lip sync, he used to mess up the lip sync. Like not singing into the mic, or not sticking strictly to where he would sing on the backing tape.
This is my favorite Queen song and fave performance of this song. Freddie wrote this one and has said it's his favorite to perform live. Great reaction!
Thanks, Dani - but I hope you appreciate the rest of the BAND! The backing vocals, instrumentals... if you would like to see another amazing live track, please watch this early one: White Queen - the interplay between Freddie's vocals, Brian's guitar, and the stage presence of Fred are amazing! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f8usNj4x9NA.html
Loved your reaction!! Please react to You Take My Breath Away (live Hyde Park 1976). Freddie, his piano playing and his voice - all gorgeous. He will take your breath away! 💖👑
Yessss.. please check the 1976 version with just Freddie and the Piano, then the studio version. You'll see how very versatile his voice really was...truly the G.OA.T. R.I.P Freddie ,thank you for sharing your wonderful gift.
