As a 15 year old at school there was a special someone but i was way too shy to approach her. She unexpectantly left with her family to live overseas. Fast forward 50 years and synchronicity and FB fortuitously brought us together again....and this time i had way more sense! Someone like her makes it all worthwhile ...someone exactly like her.. And the best is yet to come....
In May 1989, I was backpacking around New Zealand and met someone I've never been able to forget. We were staying in the same hostel for a while and talked and laughed so easily together - and one evening when I was feeling really down, he found me crying and spent two hours calming me, encouraging me, helping me make plans for the next country I was going to ... but he didn't even sit beside me - he stayed on the other side of the room. I was convinced he found me really unattractive, and managed to hide my feelings for him ... and then, a week later, we had both moved out of the hostel. He didn't say goodbye - one day he'd just gone. Subconsciously, I've always been hoping to find someone exactly like him, but I've never felt that connection with anyone else. Even made a disastrous marriage (now over), thinking I might as well marry than stay single. But every time I hear this song, particularly in May, I think of him.
This is such a beautiful song. I'm an African American female who belongs to a social club. They have played this song there for a very long time. It is so soulful, that I always assumed it was an African American who was singing it! LOL! I found out it is sung by Van Morrison since I have been coming to RU-vid. No disrespect to him. Thank you for posting it here. I absolutely love it and always will!
