Giving cash instead of information, promotes behavior and supports the guys who stand on the corner begging. Seriously guys..lets think of how much money, energy effort and agencies resources go to help homeless people. The immediate need is real but providing resources outside the existing channels is equivalent to feeding the zoo animals inspite of the sign. There is a reason they are out there. Lets help the individual focus on real help. Be careful to engage if you wish but please share real information on resources in your city. Organize a community drive to help direct these individuals from the various corners to the resources. I know many will disagree but it does not change the fact, donating money and food creates an alternative path to get momentary help. The substantial, sustainable help these individuals need is greater than the hunger they feel. Let their hunger propel them to find the resources you provide. A baby crib has rails for a reason. It protects the baby. Homeless people are hurting beyond the cash or mcadees burger. Consider your action is undermining a system and endangers community and perpetuate the hurting person. Alleviating your personal discomfort is a price that perpetuates the homeless persons pain. Just saying. Not just to you sydel but it did come up.
