Recorded July 14, 2024. Jimmie Davis died at the age of 101 in 2000. At the time, the former Louisiana Governor, was the longest living US Governor in history. Before his political career Davis was a well known American singer and songwriter. His country style was often mixed with folksy blues. His most popular songs were the 1940s/50s tunes such as You Are My Sunshine, There’s A New Moon Over My Shoulder and that popular co-write with Hank Williams Sr, Lonesome Whistle. In 1952 he released Someone To Care, a gospel song that has appeared in numerous hymnals.
