All the people who are saying there are Miis, OBVIOUSLY I know this as I put the scene at 2:23 This scene isn't in the trailer, it's in Takahashi's match in the direct, but very much left out of the trailer
i like how every time Nintendo's said "ok we're done wth the miis now please just fucking forget about them already" it's immediately met with backlash
@@imani8815 when else did they do that 😂 if anything they've been getting better, like they recently made a new online infrastructure to replace the old garbage one and they're implementing it in new games. It's already in monster hunter rise and pokemon legends: arceus But yeah the new character things look like a mix between xbox avatars and splatoon characters 😂 I hope there's still Mii NPCs though cause it didn't seem like there are. Like where's Matt?? 😭
I’m talking about when they try to make squeals to old OG nostalgic games they really messed up wii sports man 🥲it would have been better is they kept the old game design and added updated controls and maybe sum new games or sum like that yk what I mean instead we got those ugly ass characters and 3 of the same game 💀 volleyball, badminton, and tennis literally have the game mechanics
@@spike5499 Fr the character design looks like those wii sports knockoffs u would see in the bargain bin 💀WHAT R THEY DOING why the pink hair girl built that chick from lazy town
I think nintendo doesn't realise what made wii sport good. The simplicity, the atmosphere, the sound effects, the male voice who said "nice spare" these are all things that made it so memorable. I feel like they really didn't capture that atmosphere for nintendo switch sports. I really hope they still have the same commentator voice.
It's kinda sad because I thought after Miitopia's revival and subsequent success that Nintendo would realize how popular and important Miis are to their brand image, especially since that game had such an advancement regarding the way we could customize our Miis. The sheer amount of meme potential alone skyrocketed that game back into the mind of anyone with a Switch, but it seems once again that they're just taking one step forward and three steps back. Why play a Switch Sports game without any of the charm that made Wii Sports...well, Wii Sports? Just go find any generic third party sports game and you'll find similar models and aesthetics to this one.
Not enough people realize just how great miis are. As far as I can tell, nobody is annoyed by them, as long as they’re not overused (and even then I don’t think many people ever got that mad when they were at their peak). On top of that, they’re extremely user friendly and extremely customizable, they’re the perfect brand-wide avatar pseudo-mascot thing
honestly, the "new" miis aren't that bad, but the original miis are unbeatable. I guess they could've made the effort in making wuhu island bigger rather than using a lot of brain power on new characters and new sports. I still can't believe they added soccer and badminton and removed archery, basketball and.... the plane.
Maybe it's conditioning and my negative mental associations with mobile gaming, but the new characters in this game look like exactly that. Mobile gaming characters. I'm not sure why I feel so strongly about this, but I despise the art style of mobile games.
@@ressljs Mobile gaming characters are modeled after simple characters like this. You're associating the two backwards. I think they look fine (just my opinion of course), but they definitely take away from the charm of Miis.
What's good about Miis is that on their own they aren't unique or interesting looking but can easily be turned into an interesting looking avatar with creativity. These new avatars already have a very unique look to them, to the point where it looks like you can't really change their mouths or noses or even eyes like you could with Miis. Miis allow you to create something out of nothing, but these new guys don't let you create anything, and don't look particularly interesting either. In a massive crowd, where Miis are usually placed in when not the central focus, seeing the range of different Miis that appear is cool. The lack of possibilities with these new characers are too in-substantial for them to be memorable or loved.
Look at the takahashi and koizumi avatars at 2:23. They look very much like the miis from the Wii era, so I wouldn’t be so sure about your hypothesis. My guess is the well detailed ones are like npc characters, and you’ll be able to make your own mii just like on the Wii.
You put my thoughts into words. Something about these new characters feels so... generic. Miis are Nintendo's thing, and leaving them out in favor of these cutesy character models just sucks all the personality out. It doesn't even feel like the same game. Also thanks for the Nostalgia with that Elebits music lmao
This is just typical sports' game garbage that was available back on Xbox Kinect in the early 2010s. It looks nothing like a Nintendo game if you remove the title.
I’m more upset about there being 6 games compared to Wii Sport Resort’s 12. Maybe Nintendo should spend less time on stock characters, as was aptly put, and more time on bringing other game modes.
The miis are hilarious and a good time was had by all in creating the weirdest looking ones and naming them crazy stuff. Grabbing their little heads and seeing their bodies wiggle around in the mii plaza was enjoyable on its own. The miis are funny to look at. These new boys are boring and uncomfortable at the same time
That was my first thought too, "WTF HAPPENED TO THE MIIS?!?" But foreal I think people forget just how revolutionary Miis were. Back when the Wii first came out, we didn't have the luxury of Apple Memojis or Xbox Avatars or Bitmoji or the dozens of other copy cat "create your own character" systems we have today. Miis were one of the first of its kind, and one of the most extensive; Nintendo trying to ditch Miis would be like if Apple tried to ditch touch screens. Don't forget what made you successful Nintendo.
@@Blue-Apple-fc9eo I played the demo and I think the gameplay is pretty bad. I was willing to give it a chance but dang, something about just feels off to me. I was curious if it was my nostalgia playing a factor so I busted out Wii Sports Resort and played them back to back. Particularly with the Swordplay Minigame. They seem to have ditched the one to one sword swinging in favor of gesture controls. Not my cup of tea but I'm really curious what you think.
Nintendo’s master plan: - release Switch Sports with generic OCs as players - add boxing in a free update - add Matt with the new design - put non-mii Matt in Smash 6 - profit
Nah Miis are gonna be an option. In this video right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tiwjvBSS_Wk.html Nintendo said that Miis will indeed be an option.
the wii games were so simple yet they were so fun it looked like they tried too hard a lot of people want the miis over whatever the new player avatars are it wont feel the same or as fun in my opinion but i will most likely buy this game to see
I think the game itself will play fine. At the very least, I doubt it'll flop like Wii Sports Club did (though that's because it's a Wii U game with weird monetization).
I don’t think the option to play as either your own Mii or one of these little custom in-game characters is a bad idea necessarily (tho the art styles between the two do kinda clash), the problem rather for me personally is that by making these new models the sole focus in presentation of the game, Nintendo has inadvertently made their new entry into a simple, beloved legacy series look like one of those generic low effort “sports party” type games that other publishers have shat out to get a piece of the wii sports pie or more recently to beat out Nintendo themselves to releasing one for the Switch. I think you’re absolutely right that this was originally something else completely that they’ve just slapped the Sports logo and miis onto.
YES i feel like everyone in this comment section is forgetting that Miitopia was revamped and Nintendo already has Mii assets for the Switch so???? It makes their decision to not use modern Miis even more confusing
I'm a little disappointed that the sports aren't being held on Wuhu Island, especially because I imagined an open world sports game taking place if they ever did make switch sports. I'm also confused on why they wouldn't bring back the CPU miis as they aren't in the trailer as far as I can see. Also I'm not too happy about the character redesigns, the anatomy doesn't look right and yes while there will be playable miis it looks more like the mask of a mi than an actual miii. However I'm optimistic that the game will become better as development continues and that updates will add features I'm looking for
Right?? Could you imagine an open world style where you could manually walk around / OR use a menu to do sports? Walk through the island and see miis just doing their thing. I'd kill for that.
Removing miis from the wii/switch sports is like removing the game's soul Nintendo is REALLY disappointing me... how can they just forget about one of their most unique, beautiful and original creations!? Just how, and why... Oh I'm sad now, I was hoping that it had miis in it 😪😔😞
@@oraclescrolls I know, I know, but they weren't even in the official trailer, Nintendo is kind of trying to hide them. I know you can still play as a mii, but it isn't the same thing with non-miis opponents. I really do think Nintendo is losing some of its uniqueness removing miis
As someone who played in testing, I personally thought it was pretty good. Besides the fact that you can't re-center the controls until the next game round, it was actually pretty fun with HD rumble and awesome graphics
Yeah I'll agree on that, there was two things that I really didn't like and just needs more fine tuning. One was that you have to do a full swing in Tennis as oppose to a flick in Wii. Also bowling felt really odd, something just didn't really click with what I was seeing on screen. Then of course the sword fighting was just meh, just swing your arms and you win.
@@aubreyh1930 Based off of my exprience during the Online Play Test it's looking that way. However I have faith that their going to fine tune it a lot more considering the bowling felt weird as well. It had all the right stokes just not the same motions to go with it.
I'm genuinely scared that unfinished games is gonna become a trend on the switch. While the only thing being added to Switch Sports in fall is Golf, New Horizons had so much content added in through updates, when it was a bit barebones at launch.
im just happy that the newer generation gets to experiences at least something similar to what teenagers and young adults got to experience, i feel like this title would really get the family back together and to reminisce the older (and simplier) times, so even though this game was modernized to look like a plastic replica of what we used to love. we can still enjoy the fact that we can bond with the little ones and share about the times we had when we were little aswell
I guess only fans who grew up playing the wii consoles would only want to play as miis. I understand Nintendo is using these avatars for new generation gamers.
The original Xbox Avatars might've been copy cats of the humble Mii, but I'd like to argue in defence of them for the sheer amount of charm and atmosphere they brought. I'd be willing to argue that these Mii replacements are quite comparable to the rebooted Pixar wannabe Avatars that are now available on all modern Xbox systems.
I'm glad I found this video- I'm really tired of all the people trying to defend the style change because "Oh you're just stupid, watch the whole entire direct the miis aren't gone!!" No, the miis *are* gone. The sports series was and should've stayed their game instead of these stretched out animal crossing models. All feels like a cheap knockoff, not the official sequel.
It really does, I’m scared because they are removing MIIs from everything. They even removed them from the cars in the coconut mall remake for the switch.
You can even make OG Miis in the settings of the switch and USE them is other games (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) so it would've been much easier to just implement those into the game. But they just had to do whatever those were. That honestly may be one of the only reasons I don't get the game.
Great video, it’s always a shame when an inarticulable sense of ‘charm’ is lost, and between this and new horizons, you’re really good at describing it. Glad I’m not the only one who sees it
I couldn’t agree more. My heart sank when I saw the horrifically generic looking characters. The modeling looks right out of some freemium ipad game. And why does every game have to have the saturation cranked to extreme?! It all comes down to controls though. If you can’t reliably get the ball EXACTLY where you want it with a well placed swing, then it’s completely worthless. My guess is the media will circle the wagons with praise regardless while real Nintendo fans will know it’s worth a 6 or 7 out of 10, while shedding a tear over the lost potential.
Frr all they had to do was copy the old game and just make the controls more updated or add a FEW new things because people loved the old game and they just want it to be on the new console! With maybe better quality like graphics wise 💀 Nintendo really be lacking lately
@@Shanepex They don't look like the Mii's I'm used to. Oh yeah, no Mii's in the audience, or Playing against Mii's, so part of your argument falls flat.
Things like this are why I love gaming so much. It’s proof that some projects are constructed perfectly to represent themselves. That they cannot ever truly be remade. It was the unrepeatable circumstances of the world and the producers at that time to create such an experience. Wii Sports is just another one of those things that are so esoterically true to themselves, that technologies very advancement isn’t strong enough a force to recreate such a product. Games are totally art.
My teacher let all of us watch the direct in class, as he is also a gamer. The moment we saw Wii Sports on the Switch, everyone cheered. Then, we saw the new miis and everyone collectively yelled, "WHAT?!" Nintendo, you CANNOT take the Miis away!
Agreed wholeheartedly. I let out a huge sigh when i saw the character designs and even if miis are playable it still lacks alot of the charm that the older miis had. Also an update coming in fall months before the game is even out makes me lose some faith in this honesty
@@erwinekkel9676 yeah, give people a -early access- release build and then add the actual good stuff after everyone’s already lost interest and moved on
@@crimblr Yeah early access makes sense when it's a small pc dev because then they can better tailor their game to their players while receiving the funding to do so. But then we have billion dollar companies like Nintendo, Activision, and EA trying the same thing but not actually listening to their fans.
I’m really getting tired of these games that come out barebones but “hey it’s okay we will get free updates 5 months from now!!” By then I’ll move onto something else
As someone who was hyped for Animal Crossing, bought New Horizons day one, and played it a ton, I was really disappointed that it was missing a lot of stuff from the 3DS game and then frustrated that they added features (like diving) months/years after the game's initial release.
I think this goes to show that the wii or it’s atmosphere can never me matched up to, and it feels like what Nintendo is doing is trying to replicate the Wii’s unbeatable success.
So let me get this straight. In 2006, Nintendo's newest console included a feature that allowed us to create avatars called "miis" and use them in many different games on the system. 15 years and two console generations later Nintendo is still allowing fans of these old avatars to create them and use them in some of their newest games. Wow, that's great, thanks Nintendo. It's now 2022. Nintendo is releasing a new sports game for their modern console. You can create a new style of avatar or use the old style of avatar from 2006. This way everyone is happy right? Another great move by Nintendo. From my point of view, Nintendo has handled miis very well. Yet hundreds of thousands of fans are angry over this situation. Why? It's a miracle the Switch even has mii's in the first place. They're 15 years old! 15 Years old and we can still use them in the new sports game. This a cause for joy, not anger. This particular sports game is far from perfect, and it's new avatars are understandably not to everyone's liking. But when it comes to miis, Nintendo are treating them far better then they need to. As mii fans, we should be grateful that our nostalgic little friends from our childhood are still being used in the 2020's. I don't understand why we should be disappointed or angry. I love miis. And I'm happy they're still around after all these years.
That's a very VERY good point but to put some of my emotions while watching. (I watched with my mom too as she plays on my switch when I don't and is getting a switch soon for herself) we went from super happy for new sports game to disappointed at the designs to happy at them still being there in some form. However, I would like to play against Miis as well as be a Mii so put in a toggle and I'm happy. Can even be a toggle for only system Miis. (Also I miss island flyover but I'll always have the original).
I think people are mad and disapointed because, sure Nintendo still keeps the miis even after all these years, but it seems like they're just slowly abandoning and rejecting them, making it seem like as if Nintendo is losing their soul (I know this sounds stupid, but it's the only way I can think of saying it) and is becoming more corporate and disconnected from us. I feel like people would be much happier if Nintendo made some kind of grand goodbye to the miis that would honor their legacy, and let people know that Nintendo cared too.
The marketing in is what is bothering people. I didn't even know miis were in until I read the comments in the direct video. Wii sports was free. This will probably be $60. And without miis is very generic looking. Alot of Nintendo fans keep their old hardware and only rebuy stuff they already have for convenience sake so when old stuff is put back on offer, it has to be at least as feature filled as prior entries imo.
I’m glad they’re adding Miis to the game, and I also hope there is an option to remove the arms for the miis. Because looking at Matt with arms just doesn’t look right
I actually really enjoyed the online demo of this game. Yes, while the style is certainly different from the Wii Sports games, it feels cut from the same cloth and just an upgraded version. The only thing I am truly worried about is the extra content coming in fall. I am super worried about this because it feels the game is releasing in an incomplete state; a trend for Nintendo lately (Animal Crossing, Mario Golf, etc.) I am very glad you brought this up as I have seen no one else talking about this. Despite this, I’m so excited for this game. Whether or not it lives up to the “Wii Sports” name, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m just pumped for a motion controlled sports collection on the switch, something that is oddly lacking.
I've never really played Wii Sports (although I did play other Wii games) and merely clicked on this video out of idle curiosity, but I wanted to say I also found the "more content coming later" to be alarming. I'm not interested in this particular game, but the general trend of "meh, we'll patch it later" or even worse in some cases "We'll sell you the rest of the features that should have been in the game to begin with later as paid DLC" is very disheartening to me.
I don’t really mind saying this, but I personally enjoy the Wii and Wii U more than the Switch. Both systems feel more lively, and I always find myself going back to play games on those systems (the Wii moreso than the Wii U, but there’s still some good stuff I need to grab for my Wii U). Meanwhile, my Switch just sits in my bedside drawer, with the battery dying because you can’t ever truly turn it off unless you actively go through the menus to do so. It really sucks. I just can’t get into that console.
@@rustylasagna i agree so bad. I constantly get on the wii and i just miss it. It felt like so much love was put into it. I don’t understand why nintendo thinks they need to distance themselves from the good things that came from the wii and wii u systems. Miis are the basic symbol of nintendo, its the customer! The us!!! Me!!! It makes me sad to see that they made it.. i dont know.. it doesnt feel right. Not just cuz they changed it but it feels artificial? More artificial then the miis. Its just a strange feeling. Im sure the switch games must be fun and the graphics look great but.. i miss what made things feel fun. I know corporations have always been greedy but man.. its getting worse, what with having to pay to play online and such. Its such a strange thing. Ive derailed from the original topic and im sorry about that, i just got on my wii a bit ago and just felt so sentimental. Its broken now too ahh!! The only thing that works is the mii plaza thing, i might just buy a new wii.
Personally, I do like the new character models, but as someone who played the original games on the Wii I can definitely see why people prefer Miis. I'm glad they're in the game, but I think a toggle option to make NPCs Miis would be cool for the people who don't like them.
Okay so, there is a toggle for the wii avatars. Also, this guy and everyone is blinded by nostalgia. Marketing, people have to keep up with trends. Comparing older people who would like to play for the nostalgia and new players who want to have fun and don't want plain avatars. They would be making more money adding new things.
@@ryanyes7761 any medium experienced artist would probably agree on the fact that miis have a way better design than those generic colorful turds. Saying an older game does something way better than a newer one ≠ being blinded by nostalgia
The most fun character creations are ones that have limited options. that’s what made making a whole bunch of miis fun. you didn’t need a specific slider for everything or 200 hair styles. you only had what you had and that made it quick and fun. constraints inspire creativity.
And the unique options were so much fun, they werent ever made with the idea that the character had to be this perfect bland base model but that they were made to help simply make the mii look like a person! And they could all look so different!!! I think when it comes to characterizable players, simple, but diverse, options are best. As u said it rlly helps get people to be a bit more creative :0) i know i prolly dont make much sense but i hope my message comes across!!
At 2:25 the miis look so full of character, and the newer characters look just dead? Artificial? And they all tend to just look the same with different hair or skin. I dont know i personally dont like this direction, miis are what made these consoles have some character. It was for us!! For me! For anyone and i found that amazing :0)
Not to mention that Nintendo will most likely implement their 'dark patterns' as well to get people paying for Nintendo Switch Online. This is a thing I find quite annoying in their other games such as MarioKart and Mario Odyssey. Another thing: Why did Nintendo built a Mii menu inside the Nintendo Swtich operating system if they were not to be heavily included in games like NS Sports? Sure, it might be for the amiibos, but it still feels quite useless. *The good ol' days are gone…*
How is odyssey comparable to games like animal crossing or mario kart??? It’s one of the few games on the switch that doesn’t have any dlc, and the costumes they added in updates doesn’t change the game at all so idk what you mean by “dark patterns”
@@RinZDR Taking a shot in the dark here but, maybe buzz means how games that are 100% done in terms of content (Or at least, are considered a solid game by the fandom) are suddenly updated out of the blue with no prior warning months or even a year after its original release?
@@jeweledexplorer3305 I wouldn’t consider that to be a bad thing or a “dark pattern”, if a game is already packed with content then adding extra stuff to it is just like a little treat for the people who sticked around, just look at metroid dread, it literally got an update that added two new difficulties and no one complained about that so I don’t see why mario odyssey should be mentioned here
I’ve lost all faith in Nintendo. They say they’re making a sequel to Wii Sports which I got hyped after seeing the title but they fucked it up so hard and it looks like some generic third party knockoff!
@Danny P Exactly! They use to feel like they were a friend to us and now they’re just corporate! I grew up with the DS and Wii era and I find myself still playing those games more than my switch games. And yeah, the losses of Iwata and Reggie are a huge factor in the company’s downfall.
it would most certainly be a shame to see nintendo phase out the mii. i couldn't tell you how much time i spent making those little guys as a kid, even the brief miitomo app for mobile was a really enjoyable time. this customizable avatar really allowed us to attach to the gameplay on many consuls in a more personal manner. there was just a bit of magic to the formula nintendo built up over the years. it feels like lately, nintendo is trying to erase all of those quirks we've come to know and love.
The Miis are what made the original iconic. They are what separated the Wii from it's competition and the improvements made to them with on the 3ds(maybe WiiU Idk I don't have one) but Nintendo seems to want to ignore them despite being iconic and making a switch port of Miitopia.
It’s even weird as a whole… Miis were a central part of the Wii, but it is not only hard to find the option for creating Miis on the Switch, they also never play an important role! I only used my Mii like in Mario Kart a few times and that was it! Lol
there's a difference between a main nintendo ip and go vacation, miis are standard here but now they're "moving on", a spit in the face to fans and the developers of the wii if you ask me
The problem was that the miis there didn’t fit into the artstyle, they looked almost like bobbleheads. Even using miitopia’s model style would be far better
"What games should we put in?" "Tennis?" "Sounds good. What else?" "Badminton?" "That's just small court tennis with no bouncing but ok. Next?" "Volleyball?" "......And that's big badminton with more players and no racket. Half our games have the same premise." "But sir, that means we will have to do less programming for more games."
Goes to show how much Mii's matter to Nintendo, when one of their first debuts on Switch was for profiles. And to this day, everyone on my friends list has zero of them.
The characters look like those really creepy 3D emojis. I don’t know why Nintendo thought, oh yeah the game series that has Miis in them, yeah lets just have them as a side thing. I don’t get why Nintendo really hates using the Miis sometimes, like you made this character creator system, why don’t you use it. Plus, people love the Miis. So why be like NAH lets have these creepy things instead. I honestly am on edge on weather or no Ill pick this game up or not simply because of the Miis being only for the players. It really just goes to show, the game could be exactly the same gameplay wise, but if the visuals aren’t aren’t good or if the characters are not memorable or have a strong design, the game’s image can be really harmed. My hope is Nintendo will remove those emoji characters and just use Miis instead.
If there's one thing Rivals of Aether, Friday Night Funkin', and Miitopia among other games have in common, it's that these games have customizable features. People like customizable features. People don't like when customizable features are limited or removed entirely, especially when they know game devs are capable of implementing them in full by looking at their past successful works.
2:55 I already am in the middle of another playthrough, thank you very much. No seriously, thank you for telling people to play it, it is SOOO grossly underrated
I'm with you on this one. I really don't get why Nintendo decided to but those bad models instead of Mii's. I get that this a "Switch" game and not a "Wii" game but c'mon the Mii's are on the Switch!! Wii Sports was fun to play because of them, playing with the characters YOU created. It's not gonna be the same.
Well I enjoyed the game without caring about the mii's. I feel like people are taking this whole thing to seriously. If ya wanna play with the miis go find a used wii console online with the game aint to hard to find.
Y'know, I feel like because we have different people leading Nintendo, they're trying to make it different, and in twine, kinda ripping it apart. That sense of "We love the players too" is completely gone because of how long ago iwata's death, and Reggie retirement was. R.I.P. Iwata
I love the Miis in the first two Wii Sports games, and Switch Sports seems to shift heavily away from them, which takes away the charm a little bit. Nevertheless, I am SUPER HAPPY this exists in the first place and can’t wait to play it!
I absolutely hate the art direction this game took. It hardly resembles a Nintendo title at all - Soulless, corporate, and globohomo. There's also a chance that it will have cosmetic microtransactions judging by the eShop page and online demo.
Same. I was exited at first and then got disappointed when they were showing off the different kind of avatars and not the miis. They did show the miis of the 2 Nintendo staff in the demonstration which kind of cheered me up. Still I'm worried about the future.
@@edmartinez925 Yeah, but the 2 "Miis" didn't feel like Miis. They had arms and legs and just didn't feel... right. The whole point of Miis is that they're generic so that you can see yourself in them, but the whole vibe of them just feels too... Off
î understand ur critique but you must not forget: Wii Sports was originally more like a tech-demo just to show off the mechanics and possibilities of the Wii. It was never expected to hit so hard in the fanbase. Now that the switch is out for 5 years they wanted to recreate it with like a lil bit of it's own flavor
The Miis being left out of the trailer, and the fact that baseball and boxing were replaced with badminton and soccer. Then golf coming out in a free update. I'm gonna be honest, I was blinded with nostalgia upon first seeing the trailer. But now looking at it, I don't know how to feel. If we're getting more sports in updates, at least add a few more of the sports that were more iconic. I don't know about you, but I want to defeat Matt in HD.
Wii sports with Miitopia level customization would have been very cool, imagine boxing against Matt when playing as Garfield, Sans, or $19 Fortnite Card
I'm glad someone remembers Ryan for being the one of the best miis. I remember always going out of my way to spot him in the sword levels in Wii Sports Resort.
How we all want Switch Sports! - Mii! We all agree we want Miis instead of those weird and tryhard characters. - All old sports: Add all the old sports with just updated version and not too much. - Better showdown, It just looks very childish. And remove those weird animations. We liked the simple animations. Sometimes it's just too much! - Wuhu Island return! Wii Sports resorts wuhu island is so iconic and people want more of it why not add it! - Not follow Wii U sports. This feels like a updated version of Wii U sports. A complete fail!
I could see a possible problem with adding all 15 sports because some sports required a nunchuck to play (archery, boxing, cycling, power cruising). This would mean that these games could either be played with both switch controls on single player or multiplayer online, or Nintendo will have to make another custom remote to sell and make these games work in person.

my biggest concern for this is having to use joycons. never had connection issues or drift with the wii remote. so far ive had 3 pairs of joycons, all of which have connection issues. even after sending them back to nintendo for repair they still have connection issues. i doubt they will hold up to what this game requires which makes me not even want to bother with it. i love the switch but the issues with the joycons and pro controller are inexcusable considering their prices
Agreed. Ironically the operating system of the Nintendo Switch still allows you to create and customize Miis. But, Nintendo being their current self ensured that _that_ too will not be as straightforward to access.
@@elijahtorres2688 If you think the game is automatically a success, because of the Mii‘s… sorry no. You could replace the Mii‘s in Sports and Sports Resort, and it would still be a mad fun game to play. Plus, you can play it online and most of the people would use a Mii anyway. I don‘t think that it‘s gonna be that big of a deal.
In an attempt to move away from their older material, Nintendo is also losing all it's originality, and also most what makes their games so likeable. Nintendo seemed to try and stick with the idea that they didn't want Miis, and originally I thought that it was just because it was for the Wii, their names are even very similar, and I figured they just wanted to move onto a new console and new ideas... UNTIL I REMEMBERED THE DS EXISTED. Not only was most of the DS and it's features like Streetpass centered around Miis, but they even ported Miitopia over to the Switch. And even worse, with their degrade in finding what makes them original, what makes them fun is being drained away too. Several likeable games gotten rid of in favor for games that, admittedly look just fine, but don't justify the sheer amount of content lost from the original. I miss flying around Wuhu Island and finding the secrets, the balloons, the collectables. What made Wii Sports so replayable was it's simple yet free flowing style. The reason my favorite game was swordfighting was the fun way the cameras moved both in battle and watching the kill cam, the fun way everything looked like you were actually getting stunned when getting parried, the sound effects and even the platform over an open beach with people on the surrounding seats made it feel so fun. Now look at the new one. The animations look like they're over doing expressing every single action and the camera movement looks non-existent. Parrying doesn't even hit the sword, you just hit the barrier! It was so much fun not having things like arms because it made using the sword that much more fun to swing over your head or around your body for fun.. I know some of these sound like nitpicks, and not everything they did with every sport ended up ruining the originals, but each little detail they had in the old game is what made it so memorable, and it's a shame that it was only a fluke, or maybe even Nintendo getting greedier over the years, rather than them working and building off of what we grew to love and what we waited / wanted for so long. And the free updates only make me more fearful for the future of this game. Seeing so many games opt for "we'll release it in updates" leaving us to wonder if they're any sports on the horizon besides golf, if they'll even be from the original, and if they will even be FREE updates. Miis let people feel creative when putting their character on a blank sheet rather than some generic pop-start kid and the old style of the game is what kept people so engaged with it and what kept them hoping for a new game. Nintendo is literally shooting themselves in the foot when it could be so easy to build off the nostalgia of older games and make a large profit. But now they've only missed and lost some of their targets, and sadly I don't think they can backpedal off this mistake. I can only hope the new game gets the proper updates and possibly more game modes overtime.
LAUGHED out loud when the game faded into ACNH with the obnoxiously long "ooooff" ACNH is my favorite game of all time and I've clocked over 2k hours in it, but I felt that in my soul lmao
My biggest worry is how the motion controls will hold up without the IR light bar to keep them calibrated. Switch motion controls tend to get 'lost'...
I personally reckon they're aiming more towards the modern 'skins' style character system we see nowadays as a way of making it more modern. Not saying its a good thing or anything, I just think thats why they are shifting away from Miis. Loved the video and your editing btw. Looking forward to more!
Same I’m not one of those bootleg Nintendo fans that will follow a game and say it’s good even when it isn’t but I have to agree with you some of the people in these comments are blinded by nostalgia!
@@ThunderlandVT true I know this is a bit of topic but it’s a bit like fortnite when everyone used to love it including myself and now people just want it to go back to then but I know and most people know even if they changed it back completely people would still complain and say it’s not that same
So, i played the game online test and let me make a review. The game is fun, really fun. In this regard is even better than both Wii sports and Wii sports resort, also club. The controls are much more smooth and no calibration is needed. So in the entertainment department it is one of the best games I've played. Charisma wise, at first the new characters were a bit shocking and weird but they really fit in with the game and are good but i doubt they will be as memorable as the miis are. The other part will be the scenery. It is really good, the overall design is gorgeous and vibrant, this complements the game really well. Individually it is better than even resort. But in conjunction it is worse than Wuhu island, this games scenery is some kind of shopping center with lots of sports which is interesting and we'll executed but doesn't feel as well conveyed as Wuhu island is. So in this aspect, is better than both Wii sports and Wii sports club but worse than resort. So as it stand this game lacks a bit of content and charisma compared to the best installment, Wii sports resort, but it seems to make up for it with overall experience as the games are more polished and fun to play. We will have to wait and see the rest of the sports but this seems promising.
I really don't understand the hate on the character designs. I am a wii sports addict from the day it came out. I love the miis they're iconic. But these new designs are super cute and there are still miis in it. Can we all stop hating everything for once and just enjoy a game
That's not the problem at all. Theres no reason they couldn't have just done what they did before when they have as many options as ever with graphics.
there is no problem, and if there is one it’s definitely not that “we grew up” especially since they added more colours, if anything the miis still attract the younger audience more
As much as I prefer Miis over the new Sportsmates, I think people are overreacting a bit when it comes to the lack of Miis in marketing. I'm sure a lot of people will use Miis in online play, anyways.
Nintendo Switch left a bad taste in everyone's mouths (and me) became they announced and released Miitopia (who uses the same models as Wii Sports) earlier in 2021 and that game is incredibly loved.
I think you're overthinking this hahah: Seems pretty obvious to me that nintendo changed up the mii's because while wii sports fans may overwhelmingly want them, this is obv nintendo trying to bring a new/younger generation into the franchise by giving them more modern avatars (while leaving the option to use your mii for nostalgic fans) - remember, fans of the original are now, what, like 16yrs older so they obv wanna target the key video gaming demo which is likely 10 - 18
