Hey Horse Lovers! Today while we were riding at Fort Custer in Augusta, MI something nerve wracking happened. We overall had a good day, but this could have been a horrible situation. This video is a good reminder that issues can occur on the trail, and you never know what can happen. Enjoy the ride! 🔔 IF YOU ENJOY MY CONTENT SUBSCRIBE.

Bagheera is a very good girl-- she thought " Where is everybody??" And came back looking for you! I am glad you did not yell at her- you don't yell at animals, ever-- that is why she came right back. She trusts you.

With all animals, no matter how well they are trained, always expect the unexpected. And always, always carry some sort of tack repair kit . Shea, it sounded like you had something with you, as I would expect, I'm talking to those who just jump on a horse and go. You need to be prepared for any emergency.

I actually am part of a search and rescue team here in Michigan. We have had several call outs for missing horses and riders . We even had one last week. Luckily all with a good outcome. It is easy to get lost on some of these trails. Glad everything worked out and everyone is safe. Have fun!

We own land next to large urban area. The town posts it for us. One day walking, listening to nature I heard a ring tone, very close, then dead silence, so terrified I couldn't see. Nothing came of it but obviously someone was hiding a few feet away.

I was taught, by people with trail riding experience, so many valuable preventatives that I never would have thought of myself. Of course these were veterans of the longer rides. You were on a short ride and you handled it very well. Plus you were just so blessed in every way in how it turned out. I get the feeling that you are very lucky lady. But, for the unlucky riders out there, I just wanted to share some of the things I was taught, if ever you are a viewer go on a longer ride. Always carry saddle bags and have a few medical supplies in it. (For ex.- A menstrual pad and duct tape work well to temporarily bandage a cut on the leg.). Plus duct tape will fix many tack problems temporarily. Always roll your halter and lead rope up, and tie to back of saddle. Then if you tie your horse up, you won't have to worry about breaking the bridle. Plus if your bridle breaks, you at least have a way to control the horse. Wire cutters, tubes of antibacterial medicine, etc. Water bottles and snacks, in case you get lost. And always remember that every part of the pine tree is edible. So get familiar with how to eat it....worse case scenario, of course. I know I got a little carried away, but it really does pay to think ahead about worse case scenarios. I am so thankful for all the wisdom passed down to me, and I felt this situation might get others thinking about it also. If you ever are out of ideas for a video, would you consider giving pointers on being ready for the worst at horse shows, trail rides. What do you carry in your truck and trailer for preventative and emergency care. I think this would help many horse people.
@freespiritequestrian

Yes! We bring all of this if we are going on longer trail rides or areas we aren’t familiar.

I had an ex-Amish horse - buggy mode was amazing! She was such a star on trails, too - she would do anything you asked. I remember one of the first trail rides I did I ducked to go under a dead branch and it snagged in my shirt and broke off and stuck there, so we were riding along with me trailing this long dead branch from my back, across her rump and down to the ground. And she just kept walking. We fell in a pond once and she just swam us out and then snorted at me as if to say "what stupid decision my human made! We don't belong in the pond!" Glad your whoops! turned out all right!

So scary! I've never had a girth snap, but wayyy back when I was a child, didn't have my own horses and was taking lessons, I had one day where I had to ride a different horse because my usual lesson horse was at a show. No one told me the new horse liked to do this fun trick where he puffed out his chest while you tighten the girth, so I made it about 10 minutes into my lesson before I started sliding off, saddle and all 😂 so glad Bagheera didn't go too far and you found her quickly!

They are so cute with their noses poking out of the window ready for the day's adventure. The horses look fantastic and are a testament to your excellent care & understanding of their rehab needs. Your channel shows how horses can be fit, rideable, beautiful and happy well into their golden years. 😍 It just crossed my mind that my riding instructor just did something similar. With a shortage of horses under 5 figures in San Diego & needing another lesson horse, she bought an 17 year old OTTB with protruding bones, no tone & little understanding of the rider's aids. After several months he's doing & looking so much better & is such a darling boy. Everybody loves him & it's amazing to ride him as he's continually transforming.

I was always so crazy about horses ! When I was about 6 years old in 1954, my aunt gave me an old western saddle that used to be her sons. My mom would put it on the bottom of the bannister, going up the stairs, I would put my dads belt around the bannister and it was my reins! I loved the sounds of the saddle! I rode that bannister for hours! I had not thought of that in years. I thought you might enjoy my story! Thanks for giving me so much pleasure!

I hope your student didn't feel too bad about losing Bigeera😱, it's easy done holding two,🐎🐎 esp in trees. Somehow you get to the point where you can't move and letting go is all you can do. And you always let go of the wrong one!😳 If I'd let go of my velcro boy, he'd just wander close eating grass, or branches?. If I let go of my sister's, oh dear! Remedy? best to stay on board my mount while holding, then he couldn't cut me off while he ate. But no idea is perfect, if you are due a scare, the gods will conspire to give you one. Then you see how good you are at dealing and that's the point. You all worked together to ensure everyone was safe.😊 Happy trails

I did a few night search and rescues, always anxious about finding an injured horse or rider. It was very scary what you went through, however you handled it like a pro instead of loosing it and panicking like the majority of people. I was trained as a child to always carry a length of rope, barn twine or leather strips with me, either in my pocket, on the saddle or in the saddle bags. My grandfther wouldnt let hs ride even the ponys unless we had minimal supplies, consisting of hoof pick, knife and our string/twine/rope. I came home a few times using just a barn twine bridal/bit after the pony/horse spooked and ran off. Luckily a few bridals, and bareback pads and 1 shoe was the worst danage I ever experienced with the horses. The 2 hours searching for the lost horse at the time seemed to last what felt like forever.

I’d groomed my 2 yr. old chestnut Arab to polished perfection, getting ready for our first horse show, the New York State Arabian Show. His trailer van was to arrive shortly, so I led him to our house, down the street from his stable, and put him in our garage, took off his lead while I ran upstairs to get my suitcase. I got to the top of the stairs when I heard a horrifying sound … the garage door was going up, my brother was home from school!!! OMG , I bolted downstairs to find my white-faced brother and Ketchame’s tail end racing at full gallop down the street … omg, omg. No cars at home plus I didn’t drive. No cell phones in those days. I grabbed a fist full of carrots and his lead rope and started running after my horse. I passed an open field which led to an enormous green cemetery, something told me to turn in there, so I did. I searched and searched, calling his name, and finally I found him, grazing among the tombstones. Slowly I approached him, murmuring praises to him for stopping … and I caught his halter … sigh … and fed him carrots while I thought what to do. He was not saddle trained yet, but we’d spent a great deal of time together, longing, leading on streets to acclimate him, leaning over his back … so I did it. I knotted the loose end of his lead onto his halter, put the loop over his head, and led him to a tombstone, which I climbed and slid onto his back. My wonderful, intelligent, loving boy let me ride him, for the very first time … we walked, then trotted to get home asap. Not a single startle or buck, he was incredible and trusting … We got home, he stood while I slid off, he was watered and rubbed down, some grass stains removed from his white socks … and the horse van arrived. My wonderful boy won 3rd place in the New York State Arabian halter class. Beside him at trot, he went into a gorgeous floating trot, as did I , to keep up with him. I was, and always will be, bursting with pride for him, my ❤ horse. God bless him always. 16:33

Guess your fear is much like a parents' when their child goes off wondering in the neighborhood or department store. Bageera was just thinking "ooowee! I can do what I want, I'm free! I'm making a run for it!" 😀 Kind of wonder how she lost her bridle. All's well that ends well.
@freespiritequestrian
@freespiritequestrian 2 года назад
Yes that’s exactly how I felt! She probably flipped the reins over her head when she went to the creek and stepped on them causing the bridle to snap.

Pov I'm 10 and I get bullied for doing horse riding bc people say horse riding isn't a sport ( I have my own horse a mare her name is betsy she's 20 & she's more than a pet she's like family to me &she's way more supportive than the people at my school)

@fleetskipper1810
@fleetskipper1810 Год назад
That’s jealousy talking. When my daughter had a horse in elementary and middle school, she’d hear envious comments just like that. Ignore them! Riding is definitely a sport. If it weren’t, everybody could do it without any training, and that’s definitely not the case.
