What we call Dance-Punk is experiencing a resurgence in the post-punk scene and beyond. While genres come in and out of season all the time, it seems to be happening exactly every 20 years for Dance-Punk. So why are the punks dancing now? And what makes this time different?
From the ashes of disco, a new sound emerged that shook the foundations of what punk could be. This video traces the explosive trajectory of Dance-Punk, from its roots in the rebellious energy of the late '70s to its resurgence in today's post-punk scene. We spotlight the genre-defining tracks and pivotal artists like LCD Soundsystem and IDLES who have redefined what it means to mix punk with dance.

I was going to say the same. It’s a flash in the pan never to be recaptured again. The sense of urgency in the vocals, the absurdly tight rhythms mixed with complex fills, and the trippy guitar FX mixed with angular choppy chords. Just a perfect 10/10 for me.
@alexanderburke2973
@alexanderburke2973 Месяц назад
I always thought that punk was meant to be a backlash to progressive rock instead of disco. Bands like Yes and Genesis had become so narcissistic, ornate and needlessly complex that bands like the Damned wanted to strip music down to its roots: 3 chords, verse-chorus-verse, and NO SYNTHS.

Part of it was making music that anyone could play. With a cheap guitar and no lessons you could play punk music. Now with a cheap computer and no lessons you can make electronic music. With the genres being so broad and murky, making punk with synthesizers isn't that far a stretch to me.

Prodigy, over here, got tons of young people from the dancey-ravey-techno-ey kinda scenes at the time into the rock and metal scenes, and vice-versa. Some good stuff here. Starting to look as if bands like Rabbit Junk, Dystopiarch, Youth Code, etc, are the voice of contemporary electronic post-punk. Cutting edge shiz with socio-political messages.

Great job. As a DJ who spins dance-punk and crank wave, especially many of these artists in your video, even I learned a few things. And you did it without even mentioning the most commercially successful dance-punk song of all time (Rock The Casbah) ;)

Great video! I used to host a radio show featuring these bands and even managed/directed vids for a few dance punk bands so this was a great trip down memory lane. Curious about The Killers omission, tho. Hot Fuss is unquestionably a dancepunk album, and in my opinion is the beginning of the end (despite it being my fave album of 2004 lol)

I just love the snippets of music. Wonderful you get to use clips without copyright. I've tried to upload videos with snippets and they always flag mine. In my opinion, Foals's best album is a tie between "Holy Fire" & "What Went Down." Awesome font and editing style with Adobe as well! Keep up the amazing work 💯😊

GREAT, overdue vid! If I may add: some often overlooked bands that weigh heavily on dance punk sensibilities include "Dartz!", "XTC", "Cut Off Your Hands", "The Virgins", "Cut Copy", & "Moving Units". The early to mid 2000s was a golden era for many of these!

Honestly the indietronic and 2000s dance punk phases are so great, that I see them in other current projects resurging - Porter Robinsons new project direction and this new act that popped up end of last year called "Master Peace" that's channeling a lot of Franz Ferdinand and bloc party energy. Also how come this didn't even include the terms "electroclash", "sleaze" or "blog house"
