This is the final scene where the father confronts the punks with the help with his dead brother who comes back manage to save his family and the punks are sent to hell by a ghost train that resembles the one that killed them 27 years ago.I DON"T OWN THE MOVIE IT BELONGS TO MGM.

Seeing that train for the first time in this scene, slowly approaching from the red of hell with that one single light that almost seems like a monstrous eye. I get chills every time. And the faint sound of the whistle as if it's giving a warning.

me and my family used to walk through a very long railway tunnel, out of service for years of course, when I was younger. we always used to talk about this movie whilst walking through that tunnel. I even used to look up for a pair of red converse hanging. half way through the tunnel I always used to imagine the flamed hotrod driving from behind. I was only young and had a heck of an imagination, all thanks to Stephen King. Sometimes they come back, IT and stand by me all have that 50's vibe and always reminds me of my childhood the 80s and 90s

It’s funny, at the end, when Jim and Wayne hug good bye, it’s like a father and son moment. However, we all know that they’re brothers, and we also know that Wayne is the BIG brother and Jim is the LITTLE brother. 😆

Yes, it does seem like that. Of course Wayne is not aware that 27 years have passed since that fateful day; thus his kid brother Jimmy is now grown and a man, and a husband and father besides.

I find this scene somewhat strange. Wayne comes through and seem to identify Jimmy without problem, when reenacting the tunnel incident. Afterwards however, when the greasers disappears, he suddenly has a really hard time understanding it's Jimmy at older age. An incredibly strong scene but perhaps a little strange made at that corner.
@derekmorris6992
@derekmorris6992 10 лет назад
Or maybe when Wayne came back, he saw that the dudes that killed him were harassing another innocent man and helped him. But I do agree with you because Jimmy was calling for him anyway and Wayne felt him.
@devinpaul9026
@devinpaul9026 2 года назад
I like that it's an old steam train that serves as sort of the undeniable truth here. They were bad dudes and the train came along and cleaned em up. They came back, and you could hear it's whistle even before they did. "I KNOW they're gonna get loose, but I'm still watchin', don't you worry." Then in the end the train ITSELF returns from the dead to do it's job all over again. The train itself seems to represent fate, but there's a little more than that going on. ANY train could've come along and gotten em again, and assuming this one HAS some sort of soul to it, there's no particular reason why it would've gone to hell, as SEEMS to be implied by it's return. My money says the train is actually a purely ANGELLIC-- or at least earnestly GOOD spirit-- that somehow knew it was still needed and couldn't rest. It's return doesn't look and sound that way due to being "from hell", but rather due to being at decades of unrest and enraged at the presence of the very causes of it. "Fuck, I'm tired! I already had to kill these assholes once, this time they're STAYIN' dead!" Or what if it wasn't a spirit until AFTER it killed them, and then was GRANTED the task of BEING a force of truth long after it's corporeal form should've been scrapped. You suddenly become aware of yourself as something that shouldn't even BE aware-- and then are imediately granted the task of holding decades long torch for something you had no say at all in. You'd be pretty pissed.

The crazy thing is that they would have died anyway, even when the key was found and the car was started the car was stuck on the tracks. The same thing would have probably happened before too if Jimmy didn’t pick it up and run away with it, this scene had a message to it and that’s one of them. The group would have died one way or another.

In the original short story, Jim summoned a demon to send them to hell. And the car was originally a 1954 Ford Sedan with "Snake eyes"(Snake eyes probably being the gang name). There were originally five to six members, and four of them attacked Wayne and Jim. Instead of Mueller, there was a guy named Charlie Splonder, A.K.A Bleach. Bleach had orange hair, similar to the anime character Ichigo from bleach, meanings that he could have taken inspiration from that short story only character. The reason was that he literally tried to color his hair with Clorox. The three hoods were uglier in the novel. Robert Lawson, also known as Richard in the film, had the strawberry bookmark, and black chinos instead of jeans. Vinny Vincent, originally known as Vinny Cory in the short story, had a blonde crewcut, and David Garcia, renamed to David North the film, was a large fat guy with black greasy hair and jittery eyes. The fact that he was described as large and overweight could have made him the basis for both Patrick Hockstetter, and his jittery eyes could have had him inspire Eyeball Chambers.

@imwaytoshort
@imwaytoshort 7 лет назад
Joe Brito I think it has something to do with they died because jimmy picked up the keys so they couldn't drive away and died. And they wanted to take him with them aswell. So maybe they wanted another chance to redo everything and even when they had the keys they went to hell.
@MrJamieMurph4141969
@MrJamieMurph4141969 7 лет назад
Yes,that's it,like Jim even tells Sally shortly earlier in the film once he has this figured out,he has to change the way the incident happened,by getting the punks' car keys and giving them back,so ultimately their untimely ends won't be his fault. Really,in reality,if you were confronted with a bully or bullies the way Jimmy and Wayne were some 25 yrs back,and secretly stole their car keys so they would get run over by a train or something,then you could or,would be even arrested for murder. I mean,we know that's why,27 yrs ago,Jimmy had stolen the keys,because the punks were harrassing him and Wayne and so they couldn't drive away when they saw the train coming,and after Wayne gets stabbed and dies,Jimmy is seen running home and sobbing like mad,but still,after all that and in all the years following,you'd think he must have felt secretly guilty for what he did(stealing the keys and thus actually being responsible for Richard's, Vinnie's and David's ends). So now ,again,he has the chance to fix it so that the greaser trio getting run over by the train is not his fault,you get the picture,I'm sure..
@alnu8355

Never clear on that myself. Mythology and fiction are filled with all sorts of idiosyncratic, bizzare, and senseless "rules" especially when dealing with the afterlife. Regardless I think it was a good direction to with for the story. I mean what were they going to do? Draw a pentagram, use the scale of crocodile and chalk? I kind of like how straight forward the "ritual" is for this story.

They had to re-enact the situation just like how it was 27 years ago, which is why Wayne was trapped in a dimension, he couldn’t go to heaven without this situation revolved, and the greasers couldn’t stay out of hell until they solved the situation, which is why they needed mueller alive, because he was one of the 6 that was there that day, also the reason why they couldn’t just stab Jimmy and kill him for revenge, they needed him alive.

There’s a few things that they change with the locomotive obviously one of them is the whistle since the engine was not operational they can’t use 5021s whistle and instead used N&W 1218s hotter whistle there’s also another whistle which is heard in the background of the movie which I assume is some kind of 3 chime whistle but the way the whistle is blown believes me to think it came from a shay locomotive another thing that they change was the cow catcher they took off the SP cow catcher that it originally had and replaced it with a grilled cow catcher I don’t know why they did this but probably to give it a more northern appearance and the last thing that they changed was the bell they took off the air compressed bell and replaced it with a swinging bell once again they probably did same reason with the cowcatcher
