My Abuelita (Grandma) always tells me when we talk about him that she once had the pleasure of meeting him. That she could barely speak English and as Christopher saw that he went out of his way to speak to her in Spanish. She said that they got to speak for a while about anything. That in the end she thought that he was a perfect man. She wishes that she could have met him again one day. Only time will tell if they will ever meet again, Somewhere in Time....

This is one of THE most overlooked pictures of our modern era! The soundtrack to this picture is utterly mesmerizing! Every time I here this music I get totally lost deep inside and almost travel back myself to this time! Many times j say that I was born in the wrong time period. Those days were so much more peaceful. I remember myself in the early ‘70’s were so easy! I could only imagine the early days of 1912 onward. J know that those days had their own hard times to deal with. Those people would come unglued if they had the internet and all of today’s modern fast paste society that we deal with. If only there were a time machine? I would really give up all of today’s convincess for just a week back then!!

I know what you mean-SiT one of my favourites and that time/setting appears divine. But we say that based on perspective and hindsight. I look back to ‘70s-‘80s, and it may have been more basic (compared with today), yet in reality it is the same with all of the trials and tribulations of the moment. Dream of the past but try to appreciate the present.

I agree. I'm a guy and I like violence and sex in my entertainment. But "Somewhere In Time" pierces my cold and empty heart. Yes, Jane Ashmore in this film is one of the most beautiful and charismatic women I've ever seen. But I love Richard Collier and Elise McKenna and I want to see them happy and together and in love. So if I was suddenly thrust into 1912 Machines Island with my bowler hat I'd do everything I could to make it happen. Why? It's that scene on stage when she says "I can hardly find the words. Except I love you." Also, I think that piece of Rachmaninoff tune is the most beautiful music ever written.

My name is Richard. I saw this movie when it came out in 1980 in Los Angeles. I fell in love for the first time with this movie. I wanted a love like this since I saw it. A few years later I met my future wife with the same instant stunning glance. We were to be married soon after and had a reception before the ceremony at The Valley Inn off of Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. It was crowded with people and I was to meet Joyce at the bar. She was not there and I began to worry. I waited and waited and she did not show up. Disheartened, I slowly maid my way through a really crowded group of people into the main waiting room area , just then a few People separated and I saw Joyce as she turned and stared into my eyes and through my soul. I threw my arms around her and hugged her as if I wanted to never again be away from her. But here is the miracle. I opened my eyes and there on the wall was the exact same portrait of Jane Seymour that was in the movie right in front of me. Jane staring at me with that smile. I was shaken like no other time in my life. I started to cry. Joyce looked at me and tried to console me . She thought it was our wedding that did this. I found out many weeks later when I visited the Valley Inn for a drink. Jane was a close friend with the Owner of the place and gave the picture to him because he admired her performance so much and did many things for her in the past. How about that?

I bet you had an after death communication with your late wife the first year? There’s a book you should read: Hello From Heaven - by Guggenheim; It’s research into people’s reporting actual experiences of seeing, or hearing or sensing deceased loved ones. Over 360 true stories were collected & investigated. There really IS an afterlife & it’s so unspeakably beautiful that nobody who visits there as in Near Death Experiences- ever want to return to this life! Know you’ll be reunited.

I disagree. Movies, especially under-rated ones should be remade. They're not being remade for the audience that watched the original, they're remade for people who weren't born when the original was made. A Star is Born is a classic example with four versions of the movie being made in different eras for different generations.

In just over one minute, from 1:30 when he first sees the portrait to his full understanding and amazement at who she is ending at 2:43, Christopher Reeve perfectly expresses Richard's developing emotions and insights by saying it all without saying a word. The scene sets up the movie's plot which is: (1) his desire to time travel into the past so he can be with her and (2) in particular, so he can actually live that moment in real time when she sees him while the portrait photograph of her is being snapped. From the future, he perceives that she is looking at him from the past.

I echo many of the sentiments in that this film is one of the most underrated of our time.... but like a fine wine... it improves with age. And Somewhere in Time is still celebrated annually on Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel where folks from different walks of life gather to pay homage by wearing attire from the time of (fictitious character) Elisse McKenna circa. 1912. Over the years cast and crew members have attended this annual event. Sadly, not too many are left. The only remaining stars of the film still alive are Christopher Plummer and Jayne Seymour.

It is a true reflection of human emotion . We both loved the music. I only hope that I can go back in time and put my arms around my love of 56 years. For my Girl on the bridge.XXX Ged

I've never understood why so many people trash this beautiful and marvelous film. It all but tanked at the box-office. But then there's the folks who adore it, including myself. 1980 was a year of intense anger and depression for me, but seeing this movie definitely relieved the negative emotion for a while, and enabled me to fall back and regroup and do some re-evaluation of myself and my life at the time. I was amazed that seeing a movie could have a positive effect on a person. This film features some of John Barry's most beautiful music. I had the soundtrack album on good ol' vinyl, and I worked out some of the melodies by ear on the Wurlitzer upright in our living room. I had this great flick on VHS years ago. I wanna watch it again for the umteenth time right now !

All of America was angry & miserable in 1980. Our country wasn't used to feeling how she did when Carter was President. Nothing went right- the energy crises, Iranian hostages, failed rescue & lost lives.... When Reagan was elected in an historic landslide with 49 states, it finally changed, & the next years were better.

I met Christopher Reeve when I was 21 going to drama school in NY - Stella Adler; ran into him while walking by Central Park West - we talked about acting ... I asked his birth sign & said Libra; I never asked for autograph; it was just so nice to listen to his advice. Never dreamed how tragic his life would end...

I have a strange connection to this movie. I must’ve seen it in the early 80s, I was obviously a pretty impressionable when I saw it the first time. Actually don’t recall watching it the first time. Years later when I grew up, and began to have children I discovered that this movie lives in my subconscious. I discovered I named my children after these main characters, by accident and it completely blows my mind. I had a son in 1999 that we named Collier 😍🍀. A few years later in 2002 my daughter was born and we randomly chose the name McKenna. I discovered a few years later that we had named our children after these main characters. It’s still freaks me out to think that this movie must’ve made some sort of impression that stuck with me for many many years to come.

I think it’s the greatest film ever made about travel travel. It’s definitely the most emotional. I think it’s the most engaging time travel film because the idea (as incredible as it is) seems somehow plausible here. No “time machine”…he simply wills himself back in time. It certainly works well within the romantic context of the film.

This movie is like a dream and at the end you sort of wake up just like Richard.. Deeply moved and sad. It was so so beautiful. Today, I thought I’d watch the movie! What a sad joy! 'They' say ”. . . only in the movies.” Well, this is a movie I’d love to have a real-life role in! I’m still crying! Is there really that kind of love anymore?
