@@kusuma2664 She is already famous and had fans since she was in SIXTEEN but yeah Produce 101 really helped her to gain more fans. I don't agree when you said that if she didn't joined the produce 101 she will never become a soloist, first of all, somi has a passion for music, she loves to creat music so i think she will still end up being a soloist. She will continue to do the things that she love which is creating music, and would release her own music even without the TBL. She left Itzy because she wants to be a soloist and now you're telling me that without produce 101 she will never choose to be a soloist?! how pathetic.
As far as I remember after IOI disbandment Chunga was the only one that became a very successful soloist quite fast. Somi in the other hand trained with JYP and supposed to debut with ITZY, but she wanted to be a soloist, so she took the chance and jumped to the YG family. She could have enjoy the success and recognition that ITZY have right now, but maybe being solo is more important for her. Who knows?
As far as I know, Somi's full name is Ennik Somi Douma, her father is Dutch-Canadian, her mother is Korean, and Somi was born in Canada (so she has Canadian citizenship, as well as Korean and Dutch, from what I remember). Her family moved to Korea when she was very little, like one year old or something, so she's been living in Korea almost her whole life. She can speak English and Korean, but not Dutch. I would guess that her parents probably talked with each other in English, so she learned like that, and Korean while going to school and just being in Korea, so that's why she knows these two languages, but it's just my guess. I'm guessing that, because Vernon from Seventeen has similar experience. He was born in New York, his mother is American, his father is Korean, and they moved to Korea when he was 5-6 years old. So he grew up in Korea, but he knows English as well, because his parents talked in English at home, since his mother never learned Korean (his words, from an interview). And yeah, Somi was in JYP and she was supposed to debut with ITZY, there are even pictures of the debuting group WITH Somi in it, so she was fully ready, but she left JYP short before their debut.
I have a close friend who is Korean and he told me that he's 100% sure that the Korean government will not let people have duel citizenship. If you get Korean citizenship, you have to give up your other citizenship. I think most kpop idols with citizenship from other countries keep their original citizenship status and only live in Korea on a work visa.
@@killthiscoconut9507 from what I know, it depends. I don't know what this is called in English, because I've only heard this term in my language, Polish, but a Polish girl that I watch on youtube is now applying for the Korean citizenship, it's called "naturalizacja" ("naturalization"?) and there are different variations of it, for different people. Her husband is Korean, she lived in Korea for a few years now and she passed all the necessary exams, so she can get her Korean citizenship - without giving up her Polish citizenship, since her husband is Korean and she has "a relation" with Korea through him. Only when you are a foreigner, who has no relation with Korea, and you want to get a Korean citizenship, you need to give up your other one. The point is - you can have more than one citizenship in Korea, but it's not for everyone. Everyone interested can read more about it, all I know is from a RU-vid video by a woman who is in the process of getting her dual citizenship.
@@lynn4ya That's interesting. I'm by no means an expert in S. Korean immigration laws. I actually know next to nothing. I only know what my Korean friends tell me. My Friend was born and raised in S. Korea. He moved to the U.S. and got his U.S. citizenship so he lost his Korean citizenship. Now Korea won't let him have duel citizenship. I'm thinking that in my friend's case, he once had Korean citizenship and had to give it up for U.S. citizenship so Korea won't allow him to get his Korean citizenship back. I am guessing it might be different for people who have never had Korean citizenship.
@@lynn4ya I also think it also depends on the other country too. Some countries will not allow you to have duel citizenship with certain countries. Foe example, Germany will allow Americans to have duel citizenship but America won't allow Germans to have duel citizenship. (That might not be accurate as far as U.S. and Germany goes but I know the concept is accurate for certain countries.)
@@killthiscoconut9507 I remember from a video I've watched, that people born in Korea, when want to have other country's citizenship, really have to give up their Korean one, just like your friend. So I'm guessing they either won't let him get it back, since he gave it up already, or he would have to give up his US citizenship. I don't even want to imagine the amount of paper work 👀
I asked you to react to somi's mv a few days ago, and really thank you for posting such a great video! love u guys :) and I am sure you are aware of sunmi's comeback. As you know, she is a queen of k-pop!! Just like always, her new songs are fantastic... They make my ears melt. I can't be only one who gets this!! you know what I mean? :)
Yay! Love your reaction! Teddy + Somi = chef’s kiss! And oh, i hope you check out Treasure’s song - EVERYDAY! The music video is on the first 4mins of treasure map ep 58!!! (Treasure 1st anniversary!!)
For 6:13 yes she used a different aesthetic for highschool that isn't Korean but she's also mixed and not full Korean. 🤣 Plus I'm sure even in Korea if something is popular enough they know about it and can use it for inspiration in their stuff like for example a lot of Kpop rappers use stuff from American hip-hop black culture. 😂 So they take stuff from other culture too if it fits their aesthetic and in this case even tho it's supposed to be a "Kpop" song I think the American highschool aesthetic worked really well for the video. Her and the guy looked so beautiful. 🤭 And yeah the song was short but I think it's still a bop. 😁
Have you all ever watched or reacted to (G)I-DLE? I feel like you guys would like them! They're as unique & talented as Dreamcatcher & other singers & groups you like. ALSO. I REALLY loved the moment of Dutch at the end.
