According to Mahabharata, the Kurukshetra war resulted in the death of all the hundred sons of Gandhari. On the night before Duryodhana's death, Krishna visited Gandhari to offer his condolences. Gandhari felt that Krishna knowingly did not put an end to the war, and in a fit of rage and sorrow, Gandhari cursed that Krishna, along with everyone else from the Yadu dynasty, would perish after 36 years.
Aahilya bai holkar temple:
Opposite the New Somnath Temple, is a pink, painted structure that has played witness to the colourful history of this land. In the seventeenth century this temple came under the rule of the Marathas. It is said that Ahilyabai Holkar was deeply moved by the ravaged state of the temple and took on herself the task of reconstructing it.

How to reach Somnath Temple
By Air : Nearest Airport: The closest airport by distance is the Diu Airport, which is about 63 km away from Somnath. There are regular taxi services from Diu to Somnath along with commuter buses as well as luxury bus services. The closest International Airport is the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad.
By Rail : Veraval Railway Station is the closest railway station to Somnath which is barely 5 km away. This railway station is well linked to major Indian cities including Mumbai and Ahmedabad. A number of trains run on these routes on a daily basis. From the railway station, you can hire a taxi or cab to reach Somnath
By Road: Somnath is very well connected to nearly all the important places of Gujarat through government and private bus service. It is around 82 Kms from Junagadh, 270 Kms from Bhavnagar and 120 from Porbandar. The capital city of Gujarat, Ahmedabad is just 400 Kms away from Somnath. You can take Surat to Somnath busesand there is good bus service from other destinations to Somnath.
