This magical performance of Giulio Cesare in Egitto is possibly the best performance of this opera ever undertaken. The staging is dodgy but every Handel fan should have this on DVD. The music and the performances are exceptional. All the soloists are stars in their own right; Scholl, Bartoli, Von Otter, Dumaux and of course Jaroussky. It's a must have DVD
This is the best version of the duet I ever heard, perfect timing and absolutely convincing acting of the singers. The sound of the two voices together is simply heartstopping beautiful. Jaroussky has never sung better.
BRAVI!
This was an operatic performance. I loved the Stutzmann Jarousski concert performance of this duet also. There is a bigger difference in timbre of the singers. But both are beautifully heartfelt and exquisitely rendered.
Stunning and magnificent. The female characters fate into white slavery is harrowing. Otter and Jarousky are magic. What about the audience reaction at the end. "Bravissimi" indeed.
It's the best version of the duet for me too. Among other things (like beauty of line and tone) these two artists are so attentive and attuned to each other that it's almost possible to forget the awful scenery which surrounds them. Their inner dignity of expression and feeling is a joy to behold. Those individuals who hear ''screeching'' and ''squealing'' where there is none have heard too much of Nella Anfuso lately.
This is one of my favorite operas and I saw the livestream from Salzburg on MediciTV or Arte, I don't remember. By the time this duet started I was ready to close the LS, so much the production was trash and Sholl weak. Needless to say, these two made me to watch till the end in a perfect transfiguration state. If that's not perfection, I don't know what it is.
When slow, sad and tragic music ends applauding should be suspended for a while. Just to increase dramatics and sadness of the moment. That Bravo at the exact end of Duet is just preposterous. How ever, great performance. Bravo!
If some people like this rendition more than any other, this doesn't make them ''idol fanatics''. They have simply a different opinion and perception than yours. is this supposed to be such a problem?
It's an irritation of RU-vid. Lack of acknowledgement. Handel Giulio Cesare. Cornelia Sesto duet . ANNE Sophie Von Otter, Philippe Jarousski.. or did you know that already and were just making an observation...
It's quite unfortunate that you had to delete your comments. After all, YT isn't a private fanclub page and there should be room for every opinion. But I guess that the internet distorts human behavior to quite ugly levels. My issue is that you said that ''everything that PJ sings is the best without question to his fans''. This could concern fanatics but not simple ''fans'' out there (truly liking a singer involves some lucidity about what he can and cannot do IMO).
i wish someone who knows this opera could explain the setting, the plot, the geist...just what the heck is going on. This seems to be tragedy at its most extreme.
Following the same logic, you should have written "there are versions with Sara Mingardo and Lorraine Hunt which I like more". - Do not even take notice of me, I'm just splitting hairs. :)
Strangely, you are the only person who "hears" it like this. I think you should have your ears checked - or your judgment. Sounds more like trying to fit the facts to your opinion to me.
