I understand why people hate Damian, but this movie universe is why I love his character. He grows as a person, he learns to be a human, how to work with people and be a part of a family. It's great character progression.
When it comes to the question of who should take the Batman mantel? I don't think anyone should get it. Bruce has made it clear that he wants his children to carve out their own path/identities. And for the most part they have or trying to find themselves. However it you twist my arm Terry the only I can see.
a random person oddly feels more comfortable taking over than damien or jason. Jason becoming the Red Hood, Dick becoming Nightwing , Tim becoming Red Robin, and Damien becoming whoever he will in the future works with what bruce wants. the rare instance that there’s another person who isn’t related to him that’s quite young and has extremely similar values and persists to be a Batman shows that Bruce is open to the idea, but he’s also seen everyone make their identities by then
Yes, Bruce not knowing how to be a father at all may not be believable but I think that's compensated by the fact that Damian precisely isn't a normal child and I don't because he can fight but because he literally lacked a normal childhood until this point. You put it perfectly and whereas all the other robins to differnt degrees grew up in a culture where they knew how to be children in spite of their hardships even. Plus the other challenge being that he was raised with the Leagues philosophy/ideology, unlike the other robins who Bruce met at their vulnerable moments and could teach them his ways and could relate to. He has none of that with Damian, making it much more challenging, with the irony being that the robin he didn't choose is the one that is biologically his son.
Keep I mind the R*pe thing came about because one of the writers forgot Bruce and Talia were actually married and conceived at least 1 child through concent . In other words the r*pe was not the original way Damien was conceived. Also, Talia wasn’t originally a villain she was Batman’s ally.
I really wish that Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, and some others appeared in the DC Animated Movie Universe because those creators were borderline obsessed with Damian.
He is what people think of Rey’s skywalker and he swam over 50 miles beat batman holding back and beat deathstroke in the first movie and climbed a mountain with a broke hand as. 4 year old and hacked into Bruce’s security.
Lol it's not even borderline. They kinda were! Damian is actually one of my favorite characters and I got tired of him. It was pretty annoying like they're OTHER Batman themed characters. Though I do find his portrayal in the Harley Quinn show the most funny. Just a spoiled brat. Like an actual kid too in most respects. Just with a rich dad
@@Al7249 I could not stand voice performance for Robin. In general I do not like spoiled, whiney, and/or stuck up characters. Except for in the Harley Quinn show were he is entertaining to watch.
Yeah I do like this movie especially with how Damian questions Batman's moral code and the manner in which he fights crime with not going far enough. Batman is able to relate Damian's want for revenge but points out how being around Alfred and Dick made him into a better person. Also with how Batman is disturbed with how violent Damian is and compares him to Dick who came from a loving family whereas Damian was raised by killers
I'm not a huge fan of Damian Wayne as a character, but he has grown on me a bit. The 2021 Robin storyline is pretty entertaining. (Mostly because of how many characters Damian interacts with) Plus if you want to see a DC equivalent of Mortal Kombat that is different than Injustice, it's a fun time.
Now that fans are casting him in all the potential roles for The Batman 2, I think now’s a good time to mention that Giancarlo Esposito appears in this movie as the voice of Ra’s al Ghul.

I used to hate Damian but between him as Dick's Robin in the Morrison run and the tournament arc in the comics he's grown on me. However, I will say I wish he wasn't made or that writers would do Tim more justice because they started screwing Tim over the second Damian arrived
Tim just has a more interesting story. He figures out who Batman is on his own, showing detective skill, then makes use of his mind and abilities with tech, to make up for his lack in natural fighting ability. Tim earns becoming Robin.
@@CorbCorbin I've been reading a bunch of his stuff lately and he has so many cool moments and good comics. If they want Damian as Robin, okay. But firmly establish Tim as Red Robin (even though the name is awful) and give me another solo run. Or chuck Damian and make Tim the last Robin.

Yeah I mostly enjoy him being kinda bratty. Not too over the top just snarky and rebellious. That said I mostly enjoy him for his team with Dick as Batman. Other than that I'd gladly throw him off a cliff. Him being a Gary Stu and getting all the talent and skill is pretty bullshit. And him needing to be taught things based around society and childhood barely sated that feeling. I do tend to dislike overpowered characters without much drawback or challenge.
I will always like Damian,i think people that hate him are pretty shallow and boring and cant see below the surface. I also think these people are poor parent material and need consider some things before having kids. People that say stuff like that they enjoy seeing this kid getting hurt or that they wished he got killed for good etc should just not have kids. This isnt King Joffrey,Damian was made to that way and worked his hardest to change,it was never him,it was always the Leagues brain washing he had to fight through. Most people would be worse if they lived like him,but thanks to his natural goodness buried beneath the indoctrination he was able to overcome it(not in Injustice but everyone sucks there,especially Bruce,Clark and Diana)
The only way to adapt Damien in live action or animation is to acknowledge that Bruce was in some kind of a fever dream from a battle and drug concoction and Talia uses that to take a sample of Bats ‘DNA’ not completely D-ape him. Then grow Damien clones with the main Damien being “born” genetically perfect and then trained by LoS. Imo
What sucks is that Damian Wayne has the potential to be a great character, but so many comic writers are unable use that potential well. Damian was raised to be a killer and he chooses to go against that training when he is presented with a better option. Which is why the best Damian story has him constantly evolve and develop into a better person who is a worthy heir of Batman. Sadly some authors have him remain stagnant or regress to what he used to be when he met his father. It is also annoying that some comics are trying to rip the title of Robin in order to give it back to Tim Drake which also makes it even worse because it also regresses Tim as a character. But I will admit that I am kind of biased since Damian is one of my favorite DC characters. Also while I love Damian, I am glad that there are other people who can’t stand Bruce/Talia as a romantic couple. I will also say that as the voice actor for Damian grows older, he gets a lot better in the role.
Actually I will have to disagree with that if you read Robin Shadow Wars, super songs, and teen titans, ull see writers try and succeed at giving Damian wayne his own personality and a normal childhood
@@shadow-gr4iw I didn’t say all comics writers fail, but there is still a good amount of them that do, I really do love Super Sons because of how well the dynamic between Damian and Jon is. But it seems like aging Jon up hindered both Damian and Jon. What I mean is that there will be great stories that develop Damian as a character then some other writer who is not as good will come along and destroy that development for reasons that are unknown to me.

When u try to change that to much he becomes a copy of what came before, or a younger Jason Todd, I mean think about if a Damian was as good as u want him to be their would be no interesting Dynamic with jon kent well because Damien doesn't need it you wouldn't have the stories where dick and Damian have a heart to heart as powerful as the ones we got. Damian being the asshole that he is making for a different take on a Robin and would lead to interesting Dynamics with characters
Indeed I really hated that writers especially prior to his solo series by Joshua Williamson, they tried so hard to make regress his character to the point that he was almost quit the Robin just so they can have Tim being robin again. I’m glad that in Joshua run he tried to fixed this mistake with Damian and have him be Robin again. But I do hate that dc is trying to have Tim being Robin again since dc rebirth, regressing all that development he had in his Red Robin series. Cuz personally, I think Damian should be the current Robin, while Tim leaves the Robin mantle and becomes something else like Red Robin, Cardinal, or Sparrow.

This movie made me a fan of Damian Wayne. Granted it’s the first Batman movie I’ve ever watched only recently and my only knowledge of the series came from Teen Titans but still.

Might as well watch the entire justice league apakolips war timeline. It does things better than young justice like Aquaman and had a very nice mix of enemies and heroes.

It was nice to see Matt Ryan again in *"Harley Quinn"* season 3, even if is role was pretty brief... I'm not sure for how long he's going to keep playing the role, though... I wasn't a huge fan of Jenna Coleman's portrayal of a female Constantine in *Sandman* , not bad, but not great either. And apparently they want the next HBO Max live action JC to be black? I don't mind race-bending, unless it pauses a real issue in-universe (like, for instance, in *the Dark Tower* , with a black Roland of Gilead... thank Gan the movie series tanked before we got to Detta Walker, or it would have been... awkward.) but it would mean saying good-bye to Matt Ryan for good... Have you ever read the comic series Batman & Robin from 2009-2011 that was done by Grant Morrison? This was when Dick Grayson took on the mantle of Batman when Bruce had apparently died. I felt like the dynamic between Dick Grayson as Batman and Damian Wayne as Robin was interesting definitely different then the father son dynamic when it was Bruce as Batman.
I do think the Art style leaves a bit to be desired but I don't think your critique of it did any justice. To clarify, Animation and art style are two separate things. An animation style (As you called it) whilst not being an improper term, is definitely the incorrect one to use in this context. I wouldn't classify Son of batman's art style to be overtly anime in nature. Whilst it does have elements and inspiration of the anime aesthetic, I think it basically becomes it's own thing in these dc animated movies. The same art style in Son of batman is present throughout plenty of the animated dc movies. It's kinda in the realm of "adult cartoon" art style with some elements of anime sprinkled throughout the style. The same thing can be said for things like Invincible or a few episodes from the boys diabolical. Those shows weren't classified as anime even though they borrowed elements from it. Batman Ninja was a tride and true anime from top to bottom, really doing the art style and animation justice, albeit with some distasteful cgi and composition. The art style of the dc animated movies needs a bit more "oomph" for it to really feel necessary in my opinion, it just feels like they're using it to use it but not really going as far as they can with such an amazing yet complicated work ethic. There's not much composition to be noted and the lack of visual flair for the art style is one of if not it's biggest flaws. If you're going to make an animated movie, make sure the visuals, art style and composition are at their best, if not then don't even bother using a style like that in the first place y'know?
Fun fact: it is actually heavily implied that Talia has slept with Jason as well (before anyone knew he was back from the dead, Talia and Jason actually became very close and spent a lot of time together, she found him teachers and monitored his progress, pointed him in the right direction, and the whole “they definitely fucked” thing actually happens right after Jason is told that Batman is already running around with a new Robin, so it comes across almost as if she’s like, comforting him in some way. It’s not a romantic thing, obviously Bruce is her Beloved, but she definitely cares about Jason a lot and kind of champions and protects him from R’As multiple times when he wants to get rid of Jason because he’s not recovering from being dead fast enough for his tastes.) Not to say that Damian could be Jason’s son instead of Bruce’s-Damian is already a young child at that point because Tim is Robin, and there’s only a few years between them in age. But also for the record, you gotta remember that in the movie both Alfred and Bruce confirm that Damian is essentially a carbon copy of Bruce at that age, (with only his eye color being notably different).
You forgot Dafne Keen who played X-23 in “Logan” on the list of child actors who can act. Also Walker Scobell who essentially played a young Ryan Reynolds in “The Adam Project” and is now going to be Percy Jackson in the upcoming TV show. Isabella Sermon in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Jurassic World: Dominion”.
I wanted to put a bullet in my head every time the guy said that it looked too anime and was bad because of that. Ignoring the fact that anime isn't a style, it was so irrelevant. It looks good, so what? Should the goddamn thing be made in flash animate? Does a good style that doesn't look like shit and/or is less cartoony anime now? Anime isn't even like that. Most animes are cartoony as fuck.
Don't really get "anime-esque artstyle" complaint. I get not liking it, but not the "anime" part. It looks just like DC animated movie movie to me. Characters are slightly less cartoony in body proportions and have non-dot eyes i guess? But that is a thing in plenty of other DC movies. About continuity itself - i like it, but man, it feels like writers were pushed to their limits in scheduling and DC executive meddling, with like half of the movies being in mid territory in every aspect (and sometimes barely watchable. Not injustice bad, but not good). There are really good ones too, gladly. Like the beginning Flashpoint Paradox one.
Batman lets damian to be robin because a hero is the only career he can have, he was trained from birth to fight and kill and to have no mercy, I mean can you see damian deciding to become a banker or something, if he dosen't become a hero he will become a villain

They should have included Batgirl a bit more in the movie Batman Hush and given her more screen time she only has a few scenes at the start of the movie where she fights Catwoman
Damian Wayne’s solo ongoing comic series where he’s basically in mortal combat is fun. So was his friendship with Superboy (Jon) (Until Michael Bendis messed it up because he hates children). Tim Drake is Robin again, and Damian technically isn’t even though he wears a black Robin costume and his series is called Robin.
Valid Arguments. I think the animation style is following the trend of most cartoons like the ThunderCats Reboot that have a mix of western animation style with an anime style which I like.
Talia al Ghul is the main antagonist of “Batman: Bad Blood” where she clones her son and then kills that clone and then uses Mad Hatter’s tech to mind control Bruce and then gets blown up and dies never to be seen in the rest of that universe ever again.
Haven't seen it yet either. The animation of this continuity is unappealing to me too. It's not bad, it's just the perfect Noir style animation of TAS and the neon upgrade of Beyond and even subsequent Heirs to that show doesn't need a huge change like this even for a different continuity imo. I don't like Damian much either. In your "Why I hate Damian Wayne" video my point was that Dick, Jason and Tim all have something that their adoptive father has. Dick has all of his best qualities. Jason reflects what Batman would be if he allowed himself to cross that line as we've seen in Flashpoint with Thomas and more. Tim has his natural detective skills and more. Even though Damian has similarities they never feel as natural as the similarities his older brothers have with Bruce in my view. It always feels forced when it comes to Damian though. Part heir to Batman part heir to the demon's head. I've always thought that a rebirth of Damian that is well thought out could tap into the potential of such a character in a much better way. People hated Jason once so, why couldn't a Damian Wayne rebirth work? Terry never needed to be Bruce's biological son but it didn't destroy his popularity is my point. I'm not a fan of Biology automatically making a character the rightful and perfect heir. That being said, I would be interested in what a writer who wishes to reinvent Damian could do
so i dont blame you for feeling how you do about damien wayne, but thats because the comics did a horrid job introducing the kid, like the movie he was kinda just tacked on like hey u need a new robin, here a completely convoluted storyline for that. but the movie did something, or rather the animated adaptations do something that the manga or comic can never do, present visual and vocal context and tone, the actual interraction with them, when you read the comic you cant help but hear damien as a spoiled little brat, here tho, theres a true sense of fish out of water scenario they went for, and then when you see him and bats banter, you cant help but endear yourself to them cuz they really did a good job with the VA and direction.

The Same Death Stroke that within the span of about 20 seconds, stabs the flash through the leg immobilizing him, incapacitates Zatara with a single stomach punch, grounds Hawkman with a single slice, deflects Green Arrows arrow, chokes out Black Canary, outsmarts the Atom and breaks green lanterns hand? Your telling me that same guy lost to a child? Writers these days

Damien has been Robin far longer by this point and has been in some solid stuff like Super Sons, Morrison's Batman and Robin, and even his recent Robin solo series. Jason didn't become big again until Red Hood though
Nah he really did adopt Tim too if that's who you meant by close uncle like figure. Tim is also adopted but in the movies we only know about Dick Grayson as a Robin before Damian in the animated movies. Which sucks cause i know a Batman Bad Blood would've been better with Red Hood and Tim Drake Robin in it.
Peter Tomasi is the only writer who can make Damien an interesting and likable character. Check out his comic runs on BATMAN & ROBIN (new 52 2011) and SUPER SONS (dc rebirth 2017)
Considering you hate Damian, you calling this a mixed bag and not entirely bad is a success in my book. You get what's the selling point of Damian, and yes, it's his interactions with others because he's a child who doesn't know how to be human let alone a child.
I tried with this movie. But the behind the scenes with the Damien actor was just insufferable. He made costume changes depending on the mood of his character. It’s voice acting man.
