Jim Carry is a comedian. He knows timing, he bounces around the stage when he’s performing, and emits energy most of us don’t have. That’s why it worked.
Martin clearly wants Billy and his faux laugh to go away. Korey puts up with it due to fans like you praising it. Notice the consistent side eyes from Martin and Korey putting his head down when Billy says something obvious or stupid.
The first time I had ever seen this movie was on cartoon Network. I forget how old I was but I knew that this was a bad movie, but yet I could not stop watching. That weird CG baby is the stuff of nightmares
@@fightingmedialounge519 yeah but Guardians was a lesser known brand, The Mask has pretty much been established nowadays as the goofy cartoonish Jim Carrey flick and that’s how it’ll probably stay in the public consciousness
Can you Imagine if this movie was made today? All the fans would bitch and complain how cartoony it is and where's Walter? OR Imagine if it was remade direct like the comics and fans of the movie would bitch and complain "THEY RUINED MY CHILDHOOD!!! HOW COULD MAKE A KIDS MOVIE BLOODY AND GORY!?!"
@@nlrproductions8106 It was in the international version of the movie and then eventually, later releases (at least on digital platforms) uses the international version.
@@baiwatch1 He's talked to Brad Jones before and briefly mentioned the Channel Awesome controversy at one point, but I don't think he's focused a discussion specifically on Doug Walker.
@@21kburd You’re the only person I’ve ever seen bitch about it. I saw one of your comments in another thread and when I saw this one I was like “I bet it’s the same dude” and yup.
I remember watching this movie at a friend's house for a birthday party. Maaan the koolaid jammers and capri suns we had were more interesting than the movie lol
The original comic was really dark and the Jim Carrey movie had a lot of dark moments as well. The Jim Carrey movie was like the first Ace Ventura where you get basically a cartoon character inside a "realistic" crime infested city. They had almost like a noir feel. But the sequel was just dumb.
I adore Billy's laugh. I want it for a ringtone and an alarm clock but he needs to watch some these reviews instead of just laughing. The Man has great taste and insight.
I actually remember seeing a deleted scene where they still had his voice before re-dubbing, and it wasn't bad or anything. I guess they wanted him to have a comedic suave voice and his real voice was just too goofy, but it wasn't distracting. In fact, his face was even a little bit more expressive in the deleted scene too. It wouldn't have saved this bullshit, but it's weird they took it out.
I still wanna see a Mask movie that's actually based on the comics, where the mask doesn't just turn you into a green-headed living cartoon, it turns you into a green-headed living cartoon who kills a LOT of people. The Mask should be a hard R, more Deadpool than Ace Ventura.
Yeah it's a bad movie but when I watched as an eight year old I would only laugh at the tricks the baby and dog pull on each other but apart from that it was boring.
This movie was a scatter brained mess. Seriously, It's like the director took a whole bunch of cocaine and went crazy. I had a headache watching this movie
I remember they had talks of a sequel coming out around 96-97 but it kept getting delayed. The premise was the son of the mask actually being Jim Carrey’s and Cameron Diaz son a few years after the original and they were both going to be in it, instead you got this monstrosity a decade later with neither of them in it. 🤦♂️ But hey Ben Stein is back 🙄
@@Smokey1419 yep the guy who won actually made a video on RU-vid about it after the contest became infamous online. Basically he was given the offer to either wait for the movie to finally be made or to be given some Mask merchandise including a one of a kind Mask 2 branded leather jacket as compensation...he chose the latter thankfully but he apparently lost the jacket which is kinda sad
Same, huge fan of the original and at 10 I knew I was watching something horrible. Couldn’t accept it because I never really considered any movie “bad” at the time, but this was the one to shatter the illusion that all movies are good.
I remember seeing Cameron Diaz for the first time when The Mask came out. I was 14, and I was right there with y'all. Girl looked flawless beyond my prior experience.
I'm not even gonna cap, this used to be my favorite movie when I was a kid. It took me until I was 8 to realize how terrible it was. The Mask is a classic, but this is monstrosity
The comic strip Is way different than both movies . They should reboot but follow the comic, like jim carreys character is supposed to be killing people
Yeah, I've read the first one. It's completely different and the humor is not the same as in the movies but still it has it's own. The Stanley Ipkiss character is a sociopathic 20' something trying to impress his hot gf Kathy with historical antiques he keeps buying her from the local shop, you might say he's a simp but he's not because she actually cares about him and always tells him to not stress himself out for her. Also the mask, the object itself is different in it's appearance(it's emerald green with red eyes).
@@Smokey1419 Yes he does. He was put down by his gf who for some reason, was wearing the mask, even though she didn't need it because she already had a handgun in her apartment for safety purposes. I liked how Stanley became more and more unhinged and developed a dark satirical look at society the more he spent time with the mask, we also learn that his childhood was not that great, not that bad though as he visited his old school he used to attend to as a kid and well....to also kill his former female teacher for always bashing and berating him. He kills her, in front of a whole class consisting of 8 year olds by shoving his foot down her throat and keeps berating her for not being able to talk clearly.
Billy coming in within 4 seconds losing his mind. You know we are in for a treat! Also, This movie RUINED the classic Frankie Valli with that hip hop take of 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'
Man, WB really tried hard to sell this movie as a new franchise back in 2005. I remember seeing promos for this in the Saturday morning block Kid's WB where they had cartoon characters reacting to the trailer (No seriously). The one I vividly remember was the one for Mucha Lucha, where they did a Michigan J Frog shtick with the annoying baby dancing and one character seeing it, Rikochet, and others not believing him. It was Really cringey.. Taking into a account a scene where Jamie's sperm are shown with the Mask's face on and entering Tonya's egg after the musical scene, leading to how the baby was born with the mask's powers, that was later deleted in Dvd - yeah they suffered badly from early 2000's syndrome of trying to be kid friendly while also being vulgar and edgy yet failing badly.
12:03 Something I add is that the reason why The Mask is more effective than Son of the Mask is because until the titular character's debut, everyone acted real. Stanley and Charlie may have been the closest to acting over-the-top but because the majority felt so realistic and how beaten Stanley was, the Mask's entrance felt earned. Here, in Son of the Mask, world building is very weak because there is no contrast. There was no grit or anyone to latch onto as a real person since everything is played like a cartoon, even before the Mask's entrance.
Loki escaping The Mask would’ve been a much better story. I could see it as The Mask breaking in half causing Loki to be unleashed whilst Stanley is stuck with a Mask held together by duct tape that is quickly losing it’s power and he needs to find a way to get Loki back into it before Loki is at full power again and can take over the world
Boy when Martin said,,,,Elastic Reality,..Korey lost his shit and I was dead...I had never seen him laugh that hard in my life....Martin got him on that one.
One of my aunts used to work at a movie theater a long time ago, and I was at her apartment one night. She had like this press book or something, for upcoming movies. There was an ad for what I believe was a casting call for this movie. It just said that it was gonna be part 2 of The Mask. I was so excited. And look at what happened...
Actually, Jamie Kennedy recently revealed that he ran into Jim Carrey at an event and Jamie asked Jim if he should replace him in the movie. To Jamie's delight, Jim encouraged him to star in the movie, make the role his own, and have fun.
The mask in this movie looks so plastic and fake, and uncomfortable to act in, while the Jim Carry version looks like it it was comfortable and easy for him to emote and act in. And it felt like a part of his comedy.
WHY IS EVERYTHING SO UP CLOSE Y'all should check out the "documentary" Heckler. It starts off as a docu about hecklers but then turns into Jamie Kennedy whining about how no one liked Son of the Mask.
I saw this movie back in the late 2000's while sick with the flu because nothing else was on TV. It made me wish the flu became terminal and killed me. It's still the worst movie I have ever seen.
List of bad movies they need to review: Superman 4:The Quest for Peace Supergirl Freddy’s Dead:The Final Nightmare Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 Batman & Robin Godzilla(1998) The Avengers(1998) Thunderbirds An American Werewolf in Paris Scooby-Doo(2002) Turbo:A Power Rangers Movie Star Kid Howard The Duck Street Fighter(1994) The Guyver(1991) Hercules(1983) 3 Ninjas:High Noon at Mega Mountain Justice League of America(1997)
Oh my God it happened. The one thing I remembered in this movie was the neighbor turning into a giant nose and what happened a second after that is the grossest thing I've ever seen.
Loved the review. Wish the bit where Korey going "fuck this dude" at Martin made it in. As Billy said, "25 years of friendship ruined by Son of the Mask."
This movie scared me when I first saw it on Cartoon Network, but not in a good way. Everything around it especially the visuals were terrifying that I don’t think kids should watch it either. It was the last time I saw the visuals being so unbearable to watch until 2019’s Cats came along.
I haven't even SEEN Son of the Mask but every time I even watch a REVIEW of it, I both genuinely feel bad for whoever is reviewing it (this is no exception) and can feel just one more chip of my childhood being destroyed since the first Mask was one of my favorite movies from the mid-90s... my dad even had it on VHS since its release! Anyways on an unrelated note, yall should REALLY do a Freddy Got Fingered review, I mean it's just WAITING to get roasted by DT!
They might’ve had him dub almost all his lines in later if not someone else doing his voice, but I’ve seen the big dance number they did in the film and I know they had him rapping in it at least cause that was decided to be good enough to keep for reasons
So sorta like Animaniacs/Looney Tunes/Rubberhose/Roger Rabbit/CoolWorld/FelixtheCat (Twisted Tales adaptation)/Cuphead/Peacock (Skullgirls) but extra edgy and more ridiculous. I WANT THAT!
