Seeing this, I had a flashback. My dad didn't swing... just held his belt in his hand and he had my respect. He passed away more than 20 yrs ago and I'm still mourning. 😢 Thank you for this. Our world needs fathers like him... not to abuse but to discipline.

She and I weren't as close and admittedly, a bit of resentment on my side. But as the years passed and her dementia deepened, I regret my attitude towards her, after all, I now realize, she was just being a mom.

Just as we adjust to being new parents. Please don’t feel guilty. As a Mother of two sons, I am sure your mother knew, on some level, your struggle. But you were there! Dementia is very difficult. Also they tend to be some of the nicest people to have a conversation with. I have no idea why but any time I have ever talked to one, they are so wise and have so many things to say. I love talking to them whenever I get a chance.

Those who didn’t have present fathers, more often than not had fathers thrown in jail under racist and oppressive drug laws with extremely crooked law enforcement who’d plant and put drugs and guns on people. A lot of that shit is ceasing because it’s cameras everywhere now. Cameras were nowhere to be found in the 90’s-early 2000’s. Too much that isn’t true is pushed on us. It’s just as many if not more single parent White Households in America. The statistics are skewed in a way to make shit look worse than it truly is. It’s more single White Households in America than the entire black population in America and those are facts !!! In all seriousness, I genuinely respect this father. He loves his son and is willing to do what it takes to send a message that gangs are rediculous. More people need to do this. I think every single person in a gang should be shamed.
Gangs are a part of a bigger layer problem compounded over several years, dogged economic inability, emotional abandonment per the individual, feeling a level societal abandonment. The biggest way to get rid of gangs is to let ppl's parents get jobs, get proper jobs if merited and make living that make sense - give them proper health coverage for the 2-3 jobs they work- and give more community centers and libraries so at the least, they don't have to leave their kids home alone to the "elements"-- bc babysitting and childcare is wayyy too unaffordable--- gangs would then dwindle. That power and that "belonging" that some kids get with gang membership, that "purpose" (not a good one) but this is more of an emotional thing and therefore cannot just be shamed out of someone. and while this skit here is absolutely hilarious - this scene unfortunately could end up with both the father --and the son stabbed , shot and/or killed or with "the softest of gangs," just getting jumped by all of them. But most parents would go all out for their kids like this and the toughest one's sure may intimidate but its all dangerous
Once gangs set their sights on a target they dont just leave them alone because their dad's present. It helps, yes but there's so much more to it than that.
