When the world finally starts paying attention to African culture and art, it will be very, very surprised! The second half of the 21st century belongs to Africa!
I had tickets for Tal Mahal playing Music Hall, Portsmouth NH couple Friday nights ago. We got to our seats and so many instruments on stage. I had worked a long week, hadn’t bothered to read the playbill, figured didn’t need to. I mean Taj and his crew were playing, what else to know. Well I stand joyfully corrected. Sonja and sextet, and her son were the “warmup” group. That music hall is like 125 years young, and the music that filled the space that night was shear beauty. Let me close with Taj asked Sonja to come close the evening. Everyone there was blessed. I’m now so much wiser, and a Sonja fan. What music!
Wow, fantastic isn’t a strong enough word for this album. What a wonderful, immersive experience. I do not understand a single word, but I don’t have to. The harmonies, the solo performances. Absolutely breathtaking ☮️♥️🎶🎧
Feeling the same here Dustbuny and I’m only on the 3rd track… we all definitely need more harmony so we can continue having our breath taken away this way in our daily solo performances! 🌍🪩
Yesssss! Finally found the entire album! Listening to this as I go about my day, thinking of my beloved. I may not understand the words she is saying, but my soul innerstands every single note she utters, every instrument played and every rhythm. 💚
Sona is warm, fresh breeze from across the Atlantic. She restores the joy of music and kanu to Americans who are fortunate enough to hear her authentically soulful sound and who need relief from the narcissism that dominates our popular music. I know but few Mandinkan phrases and words, but I feel the stories she tells without understanding most of the lyrics. She is great but humble in her transcendent brilliance.
J'adore! ❤❤

I am sitting in train, going back home, listenig to this masterpiece closed my eyes and translating the words I do not understand to my own stories...it is a pure plesure... Is there anybody here who can translate some song lyrics to english, so that I can compare my stories to the origin ones? Thanks❤
Music from out of this world. Kafaroo is my favourite so far. Absolutly exquisite sounds coming from that track. Thank you so much for producing music that uplifts the soul.
First time I heard her I was on a sailboat of the coast of Barcelona. Was a magical moment I'll never forget. Took me awhile to find out who she was but now that I have she is one of my go to's for relaxing.
Dance love into your hips, sister dance with love. Sow the world a footstep that ploughs the nation for fruitful harvest that feeds our right to live. Give us our home. Mystical dance, benders your soul Psbreathe
