Performance 8 July 2018.
Sona Jobarteh is the first female Kora virtuoso from a West African griot family. First in a tradition that is several centuries old, in which the Kora mastery was exclusively passed down from father to son. Since the release of her album 'Fasiya', she is justifiably praised, both as an instrumentalist and vocalist.
Live, she is accompanied by four musicians.

Andi McLean: bass
Mouhamadou: Sarr percussion
Derek Johnson: guitar
Westley Joseph:drums

Oh what a beautiful performance. I don't understand the words, but I don't need to because the emotion and feeling is there. And look at how it translates globally, comments here from all over the world, it's so good to see! I love the way Sona engages the crowd in the 2nd half, it brought tears to my eyes. I'm a 35 year old half Indian guy from Australia, I've always loved African music, back in the 90's my dad had some old encarta program on the computer that had excerpts of African music - and I couldn't get enough of it. Looking at this awesome musician, and the crowd, which is a lot of grey hair, old hippies? Doesn't matter, I just know these are my people. A big mixture of everything and everyone coming together.
