As part of SoNA’s Reimagined Season, join us for the Florence Price’s "Quintet in A Minor" alongside Gywenth Walker's "The Dove and Other Songs of Peace."
Our performance was recorded live from the breathtakingly beautiful Great Hall at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. This marks the first time a complete recording of the work has ever been made free and open to the public - representing a meaningful contribution to Price’s legacy.
More about SoNA's Reimagined Season at: www.sonamusic....
Price’s Quintet in A Minor is performed in four movements and runs 25 minutes - featuring SoNA musicians Tomoko Kashiwagi, acting principal pianist; Zsolt Eder, associate concertmaster; Miho Oda Sakon, principal second violin; Jesse Collett, principal violist; and Kari Caldwell, principal cello.
Given Price’s deep connection with her faith and the influence of spirituals in her music, this virtual concert program will also include the string quartet The Dove and Other Songs of Peace by Gwyneth Walker, movements 3 and 5, which includes a mix of arrangements of American folk music and spirituals as well as original music by Walker.

I think what is holy on earth is the creativity of the human mind and its voice is music.

In 1933, Arkansas' own, Florence Price, became the first African American woman to have her music performed by a major symphony orchestra!

Florence Prince's piece was honestly mid. She could have done so much better. Like many big artists today such as playboy carti, carti b and megan thee stalion she could have added some meaningful lyrics to it, such as "I don't drive R8s, I don't like those" but instead she chose to remain to a instrumental. Now lets take a deeper dive into her backstory, her origin per say. She grew up broke lol, but despite the boundary of no money, she chose to pop off by dropping some straight heat. She even managed to learn the instruments piano, organ and became a music teacher, securing her spot out of a poverty stricken life. She then went on to produce some pieces such as Quintet in A minor in not one, not 2 not 3, but 4 whole movements. She went to the university of chi ago and the New england conservatory and then further developed her skills. She then proceeded to have a stroke at 66. Do you know who did live to 66 and beyond? Sameul Jackson. Anyways in conclusion, she did alright, but had so much kinetic energy. The End.
