Once again you prove why this is one of my favorite channels! I work at Guitar Center... I used to tell EVERYONE about Sonarworks. The average customer comes in and asks for “flat” speakers or headphones but don’t understand that most consumer products are NOT flat (or their listening environment is affecting how flat it could be). But people never listened to me, so I stopped wasting my breath. People do listen to you, and this video is what people NEED to see. Thank you Sanjay!

The Sonarworks ride is crazy; you put it on and it instantly sounds weird on your mix, then you just get a feel for it and eventually adapt to the sound. Once you think the mix is done, you turn it off and now it sounds weird again but an appropriate weird, then there's that feeling of relief, knowing your mix will sound good how you intended it to. Thank you for giving light to Reference or just the idea of "flattening the sound during the process;" this will help out the beginners making their way to professional sound!

Very nice Sanjay! I use Beyer Dynamic headphones like you do and didn’t realize how bright they are on their own until I used Sonarworks with them. It freaked me out but my mixes translate better now. I don’t always prefer Sonarworks over listening to my Focal Shape 65’s but they did wonders for my M-Audio monitors.

@Greenmantislives

@@SanjayC agreed. One other thing worth mentioning is that for someone who moves around to different studios it can make a difference, akin to bringing your own set of monitors but obviously you would have to take time to analyze each studio room. That being said I know guys who do this and it helps to maintain consistency.

What a low-content "review" -- no information about at which angle to measure (90° vs. 0°), no word about room dependency and multi-point measurement, false statement that the flat "target" would be the result you get.... This is the world of "YT-education", where most don't know what they are talking about. Congratulations on getting people to think that you would! You're a sales person (pretender) mostly and I think you know it from the bottom of your heart.

@nixx5490 3 года назад
Even a flat headphones still doesn't work like a speaker, when you ear stereo speakers, the sound comming of the left one is not only hear by only your left ear, you also hear it in your right ear after reflexion, in a headphones, you just ear the sound comming of the left earcup in your left ear That can lead to phase issues Headphones are also more fatiguing and you need to make more pauses

@@nixx5490 That makes sense. Ultimately for me, just as a bedroom producer, my hope is to get more accurate mixdowns in my headphones that translate to clearer mixes in general. This make me remember back in the days when Bose speakers first came out. Bose then was the odd shaped boxes with I think nine small speakers in those boxes. The whole setup was speakers, stands for them, and a Bose box where everything plugged in and out of. All of Bose advertising was about using multiple small speakers and the reflected sound since they were designed to be put a foot or so away from your wall, the reflected sound would spread the stereo image. Bose hyped the reflected sound over and over. Well later people started digging into the Bose speaker and discovered they were using basically the same speaker as out of a Cadillac car stereo system, a at the time a $4 speaker. People were wondering what is making the Bose system sound so good. Bose advertising constantly talked about reflected sound and multiple speaker when it was that mystery Bose box that was the secret ingredient to their sound. Tearing the box down revealed it was a equalizer boosting and cutting the signal to make those inexpensive speakers sound good, which is basically what your Sonarworks is doing. Tweaking the speaker to make them flat. Bose had analyzed the speakers they used used the mystery box to compensate to make them flat. There is units like this for live sound. I worked for a large church and we had a similar type system I believe by JBL that had a microphone we put at our mixing location. The mic sound was sent to a rack unit that in real-time adjusted the signal being sent to the power amps EQ'ing the sound. Large rooms and concert halls the sound is changing all the time with the number of people in the room so have this system kept the room sounding the same all through the night.

sonar woks is amazing I used them with my audio Technica m40 was very impressed with results. May I make a Suggestion, NewFangled Equivicate- It is a Eq with 26 bands, based on the human ear drum and how the ear hears cymatics. this thing tightens the crap out of mixes, They also Have Elivate, Saturate (a A Saturator worth getting, The analogue algorythm is insanely accurate for pushing). Percolate. all are based on the human ear drum,. however my favorite and most used is EQuivicate. I believe NewFangled is a seperate branch of Eventide audio. also Check out Dead duck, They have free like 26 Plugg ins that are,,, straight up pro grade, they are not the most Beautiful eye candy on the market. However Handy tools hardly any CPU usage. they are great along with Full Bucket. full Bucket you can get authentic replications of the Korg Ps3300 (29,000$) polyphonic legendary synth, the Ps 3200, 3100, The MonoPoly, and many others. they even have a free modular program ( a decent one too) called Modulair. WhenI first Jumped in the abletonworld I was all about collecting as many pluggs as i could get /find. Then i started buying Very expensive ones and learning which companies are worth spending the money on. ( softube, Izotope, Arturia,D16, etc. many others) BRAINWORKS has been a recent ubber fav of mine I use the SSL 4000g on everything as I am using the SSL2+ which has the legacy 4G mode for tracking so its a nice combo,. Plug In Aliance ( brainworks) also carries the ALPHA master compressor which In my oppinion is unparralled in Virtual VST form or in actual hardware ( its a 10,000$ compressor for a reason..) the trick with plug in aliance is sign up first. then they will bomb your email with amazing deals,. like the ssl g is isted at 350? i knabbed it for 50$, and they have these kind all the time. hope this helps some kid in a basement lol. Love and repect

@@SanjayC Honestly yes, Its a steal of a price, and if one had no other plug ins.. perhaps. However, As you very well stated about like the softtube collective and thing, there is only so much one can have, I have 32 gigs of ram and it still takes ableton about a minute to load because of 200+ plugg ins lol, Personally I Like BX/Plug In Alliance for Flagship products ( Alpha Compressor- By elyseum I have heard both, and surprisingly the Virtual Version is daaaaaaaamn close,. Scary close. Or like their SSL channels, Solid State Logic Is sort of finicky about people using their stuff, I have their Native Plugg ins and still Choose the BX SSL 4000 Desk anyday, although SSL Native pluggs are nice. (great Reverb), Big Fan of Softube I have put kids through college there, have most of there plugs,. Like D16, Dead Duck offers some really Great plugg ins that are simple yet effective! There is this one guy who makes plugg ins I have to look this up again but he makes free plugg ins, what is cool is hes a programmer and his friend in music will give very detailed instruction, or perhaps this guy was a sound engineer at one point, I want to say one of the plug inn is called to tape, or tuape.I forget the company but you can watch the guy build it and then get a copy when done. its really cool. @MrVleker
@MrVleker 3 года назад
A few things, first of all. In general you still have to add a sonarworks plug-in to your output as it is separate from your PC in most cases. Also, I don't believe you can make bad speaker good. I believe sonarworks assumes you are using monitors, which are made to be flat. Consumer speakers are not. This will make the adjustments extreme and keep in mind that every EQ move creates a phase shift which could create more issues. So for the best results, first get your room to the most optimal conditions, then get the best possible speakers in the best placement and then use sonarworks. It's much better a last in the chain solution.

@@SanjayC Thanks for replying! Last question. Would you happen to know if the MEMS mic that came included with ARC 3 would work in calibrating SonarWorks?
@WriteJus
@WriteJus 3 года назад
@@ChrisAbad the mic that comes with Sonarworks is the only one that works with it, so no it won’t work. I have Arc 3 as well... IMO Sonarworks sounds a bit more accurate.

Holding the microphone is the worst way to do it. It must be stand mounted and repeatable. I've done thousands of measurements and that is certainly not the right way.
@SanjayC

Oh wow! That's incredible. Hope you finally found a decent setup after all those tests! 🤣

Actually Sonorworks has always recommended holding the mic in your hand. They've recently updated their FAQ to say this: "You can use mic stand, if you like, but we suggest holding the microphone in your hand and minding the height of the microphone." Somewhere there's a video with their rep explaining why they recommend holding it in the hand.
@aidanswiftofficial
@aidanswiftofficial 3 года назад
Yeah, they reccomend holding it because they've also taken into account the natural "swaying", lack of stillness of your hand and have taken that same science to apply correction to when your head isn't completely stationary. They've accounted for EVERYTHING, it is a wonderful piece of kit.

Hey, Sanjay. Tagon here. 2 questions for today. 1. Can instagram ban me for uploading my own music/public domain music? ( eg. My beats and snippets from my classical piano videos ) 2. How do you get mire clients as a music producer/teacher?
@SanjayC
@SanjayC 3 года назад
Hi Tagon. 1. No, I haven't experienced this and I've posted a lot 2. You'll have to market yourself a lot, maybe do some productions for free, so that you get your name out there. Also, just keep working, non-stop. You'll get there

@@SanjayC Thanks, Sanjay. And phew, so maybe I can upload beats! And yes, I will be doing a lot of stuff for free for example a youtube channel. I want to build a brand on youtube and Instagram as a producer and a professional pianist. Meanwhile, I am making myself good at piano, learning a lot and improving myself, thanks.

I LOVE that song. Is the full song up anywhere? Also I’ve never seen this addressed anywhere though I’ve looked it up. My car speakers even when I set everything to like baseline default settings still make everything sound the same. Whether I mixed it or Dr. Dre mixed it, it seems some car speakers normalize sounds? I’ve even looked in the cars manual and it said all it does is normalize bass to prevent speaker damage over time but it seems they’re doing more than just reducing bass. Is this a thing? Or have I reached a new level of ear fatigue? Great Video as usual.

@@SanjayC Weird thing is I have massdrop Sennheiser HD6xx cans and they sound better/ more natural using the hd650 setting on morphit. This probably has to do with my 6xx being one of the older Irish made ones that sounded more identical to hd650s. I also set the target to generic studio curve.

I've been shopping for this, but I face a problem. There are 2 different items. First one costs 70$+ and comes only with the stick (microphone). The second comes with the stick and another software. (300$+) Which one do I need? Does the stick alone works, or I need the software with it? Cheers,
