I read something about it. He left the band because he was forced to do military service which is required in Finland. After that he couldn't back because Elias (the current guitarrist) was on the band. But maybe there were another reasons about artistic differences or something like that.
EDIT: This comment contained disputed information at first. I removed the speculative elements. His life was a mess. He could not handle his military service duty or some other basic duties. Basically he was not showing up to band practise, had to be babysitted by the rest of the band etc.
@@sucersdungeon what in god’s name are you even talking about? Jani never did any drugs. It’s well documented Jani suffered from burnout and eventually stopped answering calls, which lead to the band firing him. They talked it out a few years later and things are good between them now, but Jani said he could never be in a band with such a heavy schedule ever again. Insomnium is getting there in popularity, but TDE is just a project. There’s a bizarre mish-mash of half-truths and straight up lies in your comment that I just had to react to it, whoever told you all that is really pulling your leg.
@@blablablabla3819 Well, I cannot verify nor deny what you say. This is 15 years ago and despite me having sources they are all second hand. It could very well be that it was just a burnout. My intention was not to throw dirt on Jani's way, who is one of my favorite players of all time. Nor was my intention to spread misinformation. This was my honest understanding of the situation based on what I heard at the time. Regarding Insomnium/TDE, I was ranking popularity based on radio plays/RU-vid views. Insomnium could be his priority band, but he does write the songs for TDE and currently it is more popular with regards to how much people listen to it.
