The first musical for which Stephen Sondheim wrote music and lyrics was "Saturday Night"; it was supposed to be produced on Broadway in the '50s, but wasn't. In 2000 "Saturday Night" had its New York premiere off-Broadway. From that 2000 Off-Broadway production: "Class" (David Campbell); "One Wonderful Day" (4:21; Andrea Burns, Christopher Fitzgerald and company); "What More Do I Need?" (8:05; David Campbell, Lauren Ward and company); Finale (11:04)

After spending a decade listening to this soundtrack, it's almost uncanny to put the voices to the faces. Incredible find!!

This is amazing. I was so in love with this recording 24 years ago, a young Andrea Burns🤍. The stage design reminds me a little of the recent "The Connector".

Years ago, I acquired a full video recording of this show from the audience. However, it's from the front row and only captures about 25% of the action. I am thrilled to finally see such great footage of an underrated musical. I'd give anything see all of this footage from beginning to end.

Saw this production at Second Stage off Eighth & 43. A lovely, sweet show. IIRC, I think there had been talk of moving it (I believe it was extended at Second Stage), but ultimately it was thought the show wasn't "high-powered" enough for Bway. (IIRC, there were also some problems with the ending.) The cast and production, however, were excellent. I'm surprised this show isn't done more, particularly by colleges and high schools.

I never saw it on Broadway, BUT, I did go to the world premiere at Truman College in Chicago (along with the "Company" singalong fundraiser - special guest Pam Myers)

Do you have the rest of it? I'd especially like to see the title song, please!

I think it’s okay it’s definitely as untypical Sondheim as his other works I see it getting used as it is in Marry Me A Little and a occasional production like Pacific Overtures or Do I Hear a Waltz?
