Our advice from Douglas Adams, DON'T PANIC. You can polish the CrMo ball ends to walk down lengths like every VW mechanic. During break-in the push rods sometimes collapse a bit anyway. If you want to fuss with it, you can lap the ball to the cup before attempting final length. A cordless drill and polishing compound makes the fit easier.
Thank you. I did not even think to alter the pushrod ends. I would be a bit nervous about that but lapping them could be a valid solution. I did eventually get them to fit within the adjustment range but I will consider that for the future.
I'm watching with great interest as I haven't assembled my aerovee yet. I attended an EAA webinar given by Mark at Sonex a week or so ago. During the webinar he stated that the aerovee could be built over a couple of afternoons ! Looks a bit more of a project than that :-)
I've finally decided to go ahead with the quick release pins on my sonex. Are you still able to get them for me - if so what is the best way to contact you ?
I would be happy to assist you Gavin. I may not use my quick release pins so I could sell the ones that I have a bit cheaper or just help with the transaction for you to get them new. You just tell me what you which direction you would like to go.
I think that the Aerovee could be built in a couple full days if you had some experience. My problem is that I can only get into the shop a few hours at a time and a lot of that is spent reviewing what I have already done. Not to mention those darn pushrods held me up for quite a while. The rest should go quickly.
@@weekendhack.whatsnext After consulting the plans there are a total of eight QR pins required for a full set (four pairs). The ones quoted on the plans are all McMaster-Carr part numbers as follows: Main Spar - 2off - 90293A417, Aft Spar - 2off - 90293A135, Aileron push rod - 2off - 90985A101 and Flap push rod - 2off - 90985A125. If you have them and don't want them then I'll gladly take them off your hands. I sent you a PM via Facebook Messenger with my email address but I don't think you've picked it up. Cheers, Gavin.
Thank you. It is a bit embarrassing at times but that is life. I have not asked Sonex and other than firewall forward weight I can not imaging that miniscule amount affecting anything negatively. They were both chromoly so the new ones may have a slightly thicker wall and that should make them a little stronger.
