"Song about Dovator's Cossacks" is the literal translation of "Pyesn o Kozaki Dovatorom". Major General Lev Mikhailovich Dovator was a hero of the Second Great Patriotic War. He led cavalry raids deep into the Fascist rear areas on the opening stages of the war. He led from the front, and his men loved and respected him. General Dovator ws killed in action in December 1941 whilst conducting a reconnaissance at the front. He never asked his men to do what he would not. His title of "Hero of the Soviet Union" was well-earned, indeed. Glory to his memory!

War is not a good thing: its a tragedy. But nobody can deny it inspires great music. A look at this Russian songs is enough to proof.

It took me a year of hard work to collect all my images. I did not start work until I had an adequate image library. raba bozhiya Vostorgina

Idk why but when I hear this song and look at the pics, I feel like yesterday I was joining them in war, saw the suffering, then have some sharing story at night with small bonfire etc. oh and there's another Song of Dovator, where the atmosphere was like walking in snowstorm while enemy is near the soldiers. but this song successfully make my mood in calm when I scared of something :)

The above comment is by a poster from the Ukraine. It speaks volumes about the mindset of the Galician UPA lot, does it not? I did not make this up. Shall they ever learn? Glory to Great Russia! Russia, Byelorussia, and the Ukraine, three parts of one greater whole. r. b. Vostorgina

Russians were never as anti-Semitic as "Ukrainian" nationalists. Prime Minister Putin and President Medvedev are against such idiocy, and Jews are not persecuted by the government. In short, Jews are good citizens and should be treated as such. We should remember the bravery of the Jewish soldiers of the past and also remember the poor Jews murdered by the Balts and Galicians in WW2. It is a matter of record that Russians and Poles did not help the Germans to kill Jews, to our credit.

@nedeljko18 Really, because the entirety of historical research on Russia disagrees with you. Please look up Pogroms. Even my native France was radical anti-Semitic. The Jews were almost universally hated sadly.

In the late '70s when I was studying Russian the professor handed out a booklet from the USSR intended for foreigners studying their language. In addition to some written poems the back had a recording pressed into it. This was one of those recordings.

I didn't make this up! This was written by a Georgian... unfortunately, it shows this people in a bad light. Needless to say, I know Georgians who are not like this one... a "running dog lackey" of the Bushies, no? r. b. Vostorgina

that is very right indeed. and not only great music, in all genres of art. picasso's guernica, tolstoy's war and peace, kubrick's paths of glory, hemingway's for whom the bell tolls... I think that is because war is the greatest test of human kind in the means of decency. If you survive a war, and you stay as a decent human being after all you encountered, that is something. and it gives you an opportunity of telling great stories.

Bravo! General Dovator loved his country and never flinched at the front. His men loved and respected him. If anyone had made such a statement in front of them.... well! They were Cossacks... need I say more? r. b. Vostorgina

Сквозь леса дремучие, с песнею весёлою, С острыми клинками, на лихих конях, Движутся кубанцы, казаки-гвардейцы, Чтоб с врагом расправиться доблестно в боях.
