Preview of the entries to A Song For Europe 1991. Samantha Janus performs "A Message To Your Heart" on the Wogan show. The song finished in first place and represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 in Rome.
Some people even claimed A message to your heart was a rip-off of Belinda Carlisle's We want the same thing (1990) with those Oh... during the chorus and there are two references to other famous songs, that is, Say a little prayer by Aretha Franklin and Walk on by by Dionne Warwick.
As the one of them, I hear a big influence, You can hear timpani hits and that break (guitar with vocals on studio recording, guitar and timpani with vocals during that live performance) at the end of this song as it was the younger sister of "(We Want) The Same Thing" by Belinda Carlisle (i mean comparing to the album version, not the one called "Summer Mix" with shouting "Hey, hey, hey, hey")😉
It Is very interesting to watch how the backing singers dance routine evolved to the one they performed at the actual contest. Both Lucy and Nikki went on to have successful careers in showbiz, but I don't know what became of Zoe.
Interesting also that the ghost singers (back of stage) were Hazel Dean - who had a huge career, and Kit Rolfe (who’d previously competed in 1984 with Love Games - Belle and the Devotions).
