Imperilled habitats from the North York Moors to the North Sea coast are linked by their river. This arterial lifeline weaves from watershed to sea shore, shaping the land and uniting its diverse habitats. But this journey is not without its challenges. Centuries of human development have diminished the river’s vitality, leading to the loss of habitats and putting species into decline. Now an ambitious source-to-sea landscape recovery project seeks to improve water quality and enrich biodiversity. This story is told in the voice of the River Esk.
