Rosetta Stoned is one of their absolute best songs. I think the hallucinogen the narrator imbibed was Acid not DMT? Deadhead chemistry and blotter got on top of me are definitely LSD references.
Fun fact, the "Blame Hofmann" title in Lost Keys is a reference to Albert Hofmann, the creator of and first person to ingest LSD. He first took acid on April 19th, 1943. The 19th is known as bicycle day, as Hofmann rode his bike around the city of Basel, Switzerland while he was on his trip
Also im pretty sure but not confirmed in Rosseta stoned when he screams, Bob help me. Hes referring to Bob Lazar. Area 51 whistle blower who extensively detailed his time there and alien craft he saw and worked on.

But I forgot my pen.' This is one of my favourite sections of any tool track. For one, Maynards voice sounds amazing, but it's also genuinely funny. The whole song has been building up to the message he was told, to then reveal he has no idea what the message was because he didn't write it down. Tool/Maynard have a great sense of humor, sometimes more obvious than in other songs.
tool makes so much more sense when you can really submerge yourself into the soundscape and the lyrics and the rhythms... they are truly epic and original.
Watching your Tool reactions in particular has been the best journey, and I've seen them all by now. I really appreciate your lyrical breakdowns and the fact that you seem to have genuine emotional connection with the songs. It's also a great plus that neither of you are overly bombastic like you're putting on a character, which adds to that credibility.
As someone who has done a bunch of psychedelics this song has always resonated with me. The best and worst part is that often during the trip you get the feeling that you've unlocked the secrets to life and the universe only to lose it as the trip subsides. This song nails that feeling, like when you have a word you've always known on the tip of your tongue but you just can't remember it, and the harder you try the more elusive it gets. It's that kind of frustrated feeling mixed with sadness and loss as you realise the word is gone forever (or never really existed in the first place).
The female speaking as the "nurse" in the beginning is actually Adam Jones's (the guitarist of Tool) wife. She also has helped Adam create some of their music videos.
it is ALWAYS amazing when a guy that is a Tool fan “like me” introduces a beautiful woman to Tool and she likes it.. keep rolling man and keep rocking Tool for her... thumbs up all day

I have been learning Tool songs on my guitar since the early 90s , most fun and complicated but they pumped blood through my veins for over a decade, my friends and family basically shut me out, very sad time for me , but it's time to learn new Tool and play it for my children! (This part is true) Al Jorgensen of Ministry suprised dosed all tool members w/ LSD. My theory; The following albums that ensued were more progressive and experimental and this song represents an LSD experience.
If you believe the conspiracies, Rosetta Stoned is more than just a song. Supposedly, Tool is meant pretty literally. The bands music is purportedly a tool to bring humanity together. but i forgot my pen......thats how i feel after high dose mushroom trips and DMT trips.... while in that space youve got access to all the information you could ever want but it seems impossible to bring it back.. DMT is fleeting, like a rapidly dissolving dream.... shit the bed again
