Parabol and Parabola. The arc of existence. Lateralus will amaze you with it's emotional outpouring. My favorite though is Reflection. Can't hardly wait, lol. Thanks you two. Love your reactions.
I love the spiritual/metaphysical atmosphere they create for this song.He is speaking from spirit point of view.....as he is spirit not the body....the body is only holding him ....the pain the body is feeling is an illusion because its not really happening to him as spirit only to his vessel(body)....his mind is only telling him it hurts.... its just a mental program.
“Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate the chance to be alive and breathing “ I mean come on man. After I got this cd already being a tool fan I was excited but I had no idea my philosophies of life and religion would change. No other music has ever touched my life like tool albums
My favorite tool songs has changed constantly since the 90s, but this duo of songs has probably spent the most time as my favorite. Love the message in it
A parable is a story with a deeper meaning. Like the story of the Prodigal Son or Aesop's fables. I've always thought of Parabol as an acknowledgment of the pain of life and recognizing that the beginning, duration and end is wrapped in physical pain; but that pain never reaches you, the spirit but rather touches the vehicle you are riding in. And Parabola for me is a celebration of the chance to have been born and the opportunity to live, to breathe, to love, and to die. And the assumption of the song is that we, the beings called humans, are simply travelers occupying a physical form for a short time. And, when our time is done, we return to the eternal energy from whence we came.
I had always thought of these songs as excepting mortality, learning to enjoy the ride, but realizing that the mortal form is only containing the energy within. Maynard exploring his spiritual side. Such a beautiful duo of songs, as always great video.
My mom has a theory, unrelated to this song, that maybe we all choose what moment we come to live in this body. That our souls are eternal but we choose what part of human history we want to experience. I’m not spiritual at all, but Maynard is, and I think her idea fits it well.
Maynard is obsessed with double entendres in his lyrics. You have to remember he’s a comedian at heart (puscifer is him at his comedy peek) He relishes in the fact that he writes lyrics that can be interpreted many ways. Personally I feel it’s a genuine attempt to put all his ideas and life experiences into his lyrics in unison. He takes all these approaches to his writing, so that maybe, all of us take this time to find all the hidden nuggets of information. In doing so we’ve literally unplugged from the problems of the day and meditated on the music With all that being said, in reality, he would just laugh with us at over analyzing and forgetting at the end of the day it’s just music.
I should have played this song to my wife, maybe she would be alive today. Being a widower so young sucks, but songs like these are a good tool to have. At first I had a grudge but then they pried opened my third eye. Fear Inculum is their latest album so if you wanna make this a better world listen to Tool.
I enjoy this song more after listening to your interpretations. I am learning so many Tool lyrics watching you. I gravitate toward the instruments. The musicianship is amazing. Danny Carey is an elite drummer. Very original sound. The entire band has a wonderful chemistry. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing you next week!
Love the thought process and breakdowns. At first I was like... oh shit, this video is so long, and at the end, I'm thinking.... yeah! keep going, such deep and meaningful thoughts!
To me Parabol is the story of us before we're born. Parabola is the beginning of life which quickly fades back into our form before our worldly life and body.
Thank you for your reaction one of my favorite tool songs so uplifting with great changing sounds keep up all most to fear innoculum aftet 10000 days but cant wait
Don't try to rank Tool songs, accept that your favourite Tool song is whatever one you are listening to right now. Embracing the moment feels more philosophically appropriate than overanalysis..
You can pick one but then you hear another one and think that's your favorite. Then you hear another and that's your favourite. All tool songs are my favorite
19:53 its called emergence theory. Where smaller parts generate something out of the whole that you couldn't guess would exist from its smaller individual parts.
This is the one song where I'd say the video is a must-watch. The ending is the best video moment ever for me, and they display it on a massive screen in concert that will transport you to another plane of existence.
You guys should wait for the live versions of the Puscifer songs. They released a live concert the same day as the album. Played the album all the way through. It was pretty amazing
a placing of one thing by the side of another, juxtaposition, as of ships in battle metaph. a comparing, comparison of one thing with another, likeness, similitude an example by which a doctrine or precept is illustrated a narrative, fictitious but agreeable to the laws and usages of human life, by which either the duties of men or the things of God, particularly the nature and history of God's kingdom are figuratively portrayed a parable: an earthly story with a heavenly meaning a pithy and instructive saying, involving some likeness or comparison and having preceptive or admonitory force an aphorism, a maxim a proverb an act by which one exposes himself or his possessions to danger, a venture, a risk.
To me it seems like this song is saying that what we know here is temporary, this is not reality. Reality is the foreverness our souls exist in and we have a brief opportunity to be in a living body and experiencing life. This is the hole in reality here.
When you are done with or need a break from your Tool journey, may I suggest checking out Soen? While I would not say they are as dynamic as Tool, they are still very poetic, melodic and stylistically similar. Their latest release Antagonist is especially poignant right now.
I have my volume cranked and the music is very clear and loud, good job! But when you two talk, it's hard to hear you...can we work on that? Love how your doing this journey though, I don't miss an episode.
Thanks, it's true for this episode, unfortunately the video rendered with "raw" audio, been trying to change in on RU-vid but was unable to do it due to the copyright claims.. . It's fixed in the next one "lateralus". Can you check there and let us know if it's fine there?
Hey, thanks. I unfortunately haven't kept the project, so can't provide you with the details of what audio processing I done. I only have a result material :(
This and lateralus is the dmt themed part of the album. This song also makes me think of the Knowledge and Conversation with the Holy Guardian Angel... All this pain is an illusion The Principle of Mentalism: ... This first principle embodies the truth that 'All is Mind. ' Meaning, the Universe itself, at an underlying and foundational level, is Mental. That all phenomena of life, matter and energy of the material universe are thoughts of an infinite and universal, living Mind. Yay u said alchemy your getting it 😎
I dont mean to be a tool, Csharp dorian bass chord over Eminor, 9thFsharp Maynard. Why-y yy... Dorian feel. The beginning of the song is like Gregorian chant. Very similar. Its amazing how Adam Jones and Justin Chancellor include that. They won a grammy award in America for this record. Production quality speaks for its self. There is an amazing video that also entails this song.
it is pronounced PA-RAB..BEAU..LA... beau as in beautiful.. it is a math term meaning a U shaped curved line on a graph that is symmetrical on both sides of the Y or X axis... if u remember geometry from school then trigonometry then calculus u will hear the term in all 3 classes... just helping u pronounce it since u pronounced it wrong

"Some people try to ascribe a very simple meaning to this song, but they're stupid".... hear how dumb that sounds? It's art, open for interpretation. Maynard says himself that "Tool is a tool. Use us to get done whatever you need to get done"
you are so beautiful... i hate to say this but you have that sexy secretary look with your glasses on... AND you love Tool .. THE COMPLETE PACKAGE haha.. your man is a damn lucky man, i hope he knows this
