this is literally the best song I've ever heard, how the fuck is it an outtake it fits the album PERFECTLY and ties everything up in a way that's only rivaled by hold on magnolia
the fact this masterpiece was cut from the original release speaks volumes of molina's songwriting at the time! the man was in top shape. "it'll get so quiet when this record ends"... it sure did. RIP jason, thanks for all the beautiful music
The first time I heard this song on the reissue, I had to replay it 5 times over because it was that good. The lyrics are perfect. So many of Jason's songs hit me at the core, but this one is indeed, my favorite.
If I am what they say, if I am all fangs and poison. I don't want to disappoint them. This song is so good. I think it is about being so very tired of bouncing, in vain, off humanity. Then finding solace in having the heart often hurt, but unbreakable, the heart of an empath.
jason molina is the most underrated lyricist that I know of, and his boozy, low-fi sound fits perfectly with them. I mean that in the most endearing sense.
Randomly absorbing this masterpiece, again... 10 yr anniversary of the 10 year anniversary edition! Savor time spent with the special ones who too often leave prematurely.
It'll get so quiet when this record ends You can hear the first hour of the world You can hear the willow branches touch the wave Write our names beside our darlings hearts You can hear the willow branches touch the wave Write our names beside nothing Rise moon, on the shores of the sea Shine on the distance between me And the last thing I see Let it be me helping Let it be me, honestly Let it be me working On being a better me Now light the field for the big game tonight Mark Twain to Thomas Jefferson: Strike Luke the Drifter to Zimmerman: Line drive to keep the team alive To keep the team alive Rise moon, on the shores of the sea Shine on the distance between me And the last thing I see Let it be me helping Let it be me, honestly Let it be me working On being a better me Unitas to Berry Unitas to Berry So good it's scary With everything against you, sweetness You get the first down again See it's ones like this you can always trust Not to disappoint us Moon shine that white-lightning light Down on the possums stage tonight Maybe on the man in black You could hold a little something back To let his eyes adjust to the light Rise moon, right above me Rise moon, right above me Rise moon, right above me Show an American, if really I am the snake, they're all saying If they look up here, do they see just my black tail swaying? If I'm all fangs, and all lies, and all poison If I'm really what they're saying I don't want to disappoint them
@@ashaxx Yeah, unfortunately, only the first 3,000 vinyl copies of the reissue had the bonus 10" with this song & an alternate Whip-poor-will. Took me ages to track one of those down.
if really I am the snake they're all saying If they look up here do they see just my black tail swaying? If I'm all fangs and all lies and all poison If I'm really what they're saying I don't want to disappoint them. Damn.
"The monsters that I look at when I close my eyes are sometimes what I have to go through to get to sleep. That's why I drink. It's easier to pass out than it is to just close my eyes and fall asleep." ,dan'
"There is a point: two points that made a line that was crossed to make it easier to put you out of your misery than get you out of your misery." ,dan'
"I killed the horses of the four horsemen of the apocalypse hoping they'd have to walk." ,dan' (I hope their tennis shoes withstand the sand it took for me to do it that they would now have to travel to get us)
"Who do you think I am? Without knowing me? Tell me what you think. I couldn't care more how you got here. To judge me. My name is Daniel. Look up its etymology and that's what I mean." ,dan' (be true to truthful and you should be okay i hope)
