I've looked at various versions of that song (as a non-american) and to be honest, the song itself is a minefield. It's really weird in terms of composition. Whitney really pulled it of wonderfully.

@Izzy Mehmet it may have been traumatizing but so cool that your class was given the chance to sing a tribute to David Bowie! I salute your teacher and your classmates! Bravo!! 🐾⚓🐾
Day 9 of Requesting Songs that have the same name: Where do broken hearts go - Whitney Houston vs. One Direction The Power of Love - Celion Dion vs. Huey Lewis and the News Shut Up - Greyson Chance vs. Arianna Grande vs. Simple Plan vs. The Black Eyed Peas Golden - Harry Styles vs. Zayn
I love that Joel is so impressed with Barbra Streisand , Celine Dion and Whitney Houston! A lot of vibing going on by Joel in this video!! And also the the reappearance of Rammstein!🥰
And I didn't recognize that version of that song either, so I learned something today! (At least, I don't remember it being that slow; it's been a while since I listened to it *runs off to look it up)
And then there is this forest song thing everyone hates But I guess German sounds more harsh because of the r sounding more soft in english and some other languages and because of it not really having that kind of flow you might have with French or Spanish. Idk if that makes sense, but english pronunciation sounds like something is wrapped around it and it's really soft and german pronunciation is mostly just a rock lol It's hard to explain xD
Joel finding out about Whitney Houston’s Star Spangled Banner performance is so wholesome. Yes, Joel, we are obsessed with her and that performance. I’ve been to many sporting events where they just play that version rather than having a live performance.
@@galea64 No, seriously, if I tried to sing right now, my entire town would think that I was being murdered by an out of tune violin. I’m more than a *lil bit pitchy* 😂
VIDEO IDEAS!: • Songs that its title was not on the lyrics. (What I mean is...songs that its title wasn't mentioned on a song or on the song's lyrics) • Multitasker singers. (singers who have other chores or stuffs other than making/producing music. Maybe Ariana Grande was a doctor...just kidding :>) • Songs that are inspired by classical music or songs that sounds the same as classical musics. (In beautiful in White's melody on the verse 1, it sounds the same as the intro of Canon in D but they were not on the same key...but still they sound the same... and memories's chorus part which was actually inspired on Pachelbel's Canon in D that's why they have similarities... uhmm... Just saying -_-) • Singers VS. Issues (heheh...) • 16 levels of 'Never gonna give you up' (totally not my original idea. Yeah...we know that it will took so much time and effort for this video but... We wanted to be rickrolled by Roomie Astley... Mweheheh. We will wait for this video) • Rapping Rap God backwards/Rap God but it's backwards (then reverse it for the results...just like your song 'Numb' but this is much...EPICO!)
Whitney's anthem was is and forever will be THE best version EVER!!! i SO with she was still alive and singing... one of the many voices that inspired me to sing!
That song was my childhood and legit my favorite song for years. I remember my older brother had it on my phone and I would beg him to just play it over and over and when he wouldn't I would literally start crying cause I just had to listen to it
"Did people just LOVE Whitney Houston at this time?" Yes. I'd say from the early to late 90s Whitney was the 90s version of Beyonce. Even though it's her biggest song, we got "And I Will Always Love You" because she was given a starring role in a movie because she was so well known and popular. Unfortunately, in the late 90s her popularity took a big hit when her husband, Bobby Brown, got caught up in some drug charges and went to jail. Then at some point, it became obvious that she was doing the sniffy dust. She was never considered "unsavory", but she was no longer considered a "role model". Then she passed away due to an overdose. It's sad that the attitude at the time considered a person taking drugs to be self-indulgent, hedonistic, selfish. When the reality was probably the emotional and mental stresses of being a celebrity and having their lives picked apart and criticized in the public.
Joel's love for Whitney Houston in this video makes my little heart happy. I feel like now days most people just remember "I Will Always Love You" but she has so many better songs.
Watching Joel fall in love with Whitney’s National Anthem, one of the most legendary musical performances (vocally and musically) of all time, made me tear up.
Song for this compilation series: "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" - Celine Dion (long version). I sing it all the time in the car, but it can be rough.
Everyone loved Whitney and that is the most iconic image of anyone singing the Star Spangled Banner. Also, the song is supposed to be started in a lower key so anyone can sing it.
Am sure not everyone loved her... most pre social media artists seemed very loved but when people started saying their shitty opinions on social media it became a whole other thing
@@lumin3057 the ableism, the partnering with a hate group, the bullying of autistic people, lying about removing the scene from that godawful movie that can kill autistic people.
3:52 I feel like roomie and I are actually at the concert listening to Whitney Houston and in the moment she sings that open note he immediately looks at me and whispers "that open bowel" in excitement like he's actually my close friend. Your videos have some damn power Joel. Keep it up! Thank you for making me feel less lonely 😊
I'm not even a US citizen and Whitney's rendition of the US Anthem makes me get chills. E: Completely different topic, but even with all the ear training I did, I could never get to the point where I could transpose by ear. I'm so impressed by people that can. Maybe it was a blessing in the long run. 😅
The girl doing martial arts in the first song, is doing Heian Sandan, which is the Green Belt Grading Pattern in Shotokan Karate. Just thought some people would want to know.
Hey, I started watching you just about two weeks ago and I wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your videos! You certainly make my days better and I wanted to thank you 😊
So who’s taking care of both Chai Jr and imposter Chai Jr? And are they willing to while you’re in the USA? Will we get updates? The fans need to know....
Jacob Collier is one of the most underrated artists nowadays. He makes complex harmonization sound so palatable, fun, digestable and groovy! I love his music so so much :) i got so happy to see Joel mention him, he deserves a bigger fan base!
Hi man. Great channel and a great "Songs You Can't Sing Along To" series. I enjoyed it a lot and hoping for a part #4. But I think the whole thing is a bit too focused on Pop-Music which leaves quite a few really incredible artists left out mentioned, just because not being part of the "mainstream (pop) culture). Ok "Alex Terrible" (Slaughter to Prevail) is surely a bit extream to sing a long, but you may check out "Tetjana Schmajljuk" from Jinger with their mega-viral hit "Pisces", "Alissa White-Gluz" with Kamelot: Sacrimony (or any other Arch-Enmy Song ;-) )". If you want some real note-juggling then of course there is "Mika - Grace Kelly" (How could you miss him !) For the more symphonic chap's there is always Nightwish, Amarathe and Within Temptation. Something more exotic - no prob: "Babymetal - BxMxC" (the live version is even better). Ok, one last one: "Som Pluijmers" (former Cerebral Bore, now Castration Mutilation) with: "The bald cadaver" - who said a girl couldn't take on "Corpse-Grinder Fisher" (Canibale Corpse) ?
He didn't say it was bad, he just said the truth, hard does not mean good, and what he said about liking other singing styles more, is just his opinion.
Hurt by Christina was always one of my favorites to sing since I was around 14 and that's when I really got into singing. I love the song so much, I can sing it all the way through and learned it on the piano at one point also. It always reminds me of my late stepmother so it's a very meaningful song to me.
100% agree, Whitney’s performance was the best there will ever be for the National anthem. No one before or since has sounded as classy, effortless, and beautiful. She was a rare gem for sure.
I can actually sing some of these. But, I'm a mix between an alto and a mezzo-soprano. I can sing low notes and hit very high notes with a little practice. 🤔
