Songwriter REACTS to Kamelot - Liar Liar feat. Alissa White-Gluz (First Listen!) 

The two eras really are different, you spelled it in the melee already, makes sense. The sound and overall very unique atmosphere of the albums moved a bit towards mainstream powermetal, but it's very easy to recognize this is still Kamelot, they are still very unique. Albeit I believe if they were still with Roy, they would moved of the Black Halo heights too, that's a tough plateau to keep on. Unless you are Arjen Lucassen :) In the first album with Tommy it seems like they are really trying to find themselves again. It gets better in time, I do enjoy many of their new songs (e.g. Insomnia), but needs to be said the albums are not as packed as Black Halo or Epica were. You mentioned liking Ghost Opera, did you enjoy also the Poetry for the Poisoned? It's still with Roy and lots of people have very mixed feeling about it.

Roy and Tommy are both incredible singers and i love Kamelot's music with both of them. But you can't really compare them, the 2 eras of Kamelot are so incredibly different they're impossible to compare, but they're both great in their own ways.

549 / 5000 I think the best Kamelot album is called Karma. Epica follows. But then comes Silverthorn, the first album with Tommy. Of course I also love The Black Halo, but basically I recommend every Kamelot album. It's a shame that you didn't like Liar, Liar that much, but tastes are different. Check out Under Grey Skies , Sacrimony, or Ravenlight.Tommy really does shine outside of Kamelot. Check out Seventh Wonder..the entire album of The Great Escape....every song on that is killer. Im pretty sure there is an expectation for Tommy to sound like Roy or something similar to him with Kamelot. It is what it is I guess.

I get what you're saying about the songwriting. The last album wasn't that interesting to me, the first 2 with Tommy were generally pretty nice, I enjoyed them as a whole quite a bit. Can't think of any particular standouts, I'm sure someone will suggest one of their favorites from that era. "Elizabeth" is a fantastic song from the old era.

Watch official videos for "Phantom Divine" then "Insomnia" and then this one again - the story will make sense then.

Yes, it's a concept album. need to watch it with My Confession to get more of the whole story. The only albums that have been a miss for me is Shadow Theory and Poetry.

Falling like the Farenheit and Citizen Zero; one from Haven, the other from Silverthorne. These are epic and heavy. be sure to check them out. I miss their older stuff with the medieval themes. Forget Poetry for the Poisoned, it was just awful. To answer your question about Elizabeth, parts 1-3; they are on Karma, the album before Black Halo.

Kamelot has not been the same since Roy's departure. The Black Halo is still there best in my opinion. As far as a good Tommy album, I love Silverthorn. The Shadow Theory is a nice release also.

Nice and honest reaction. But really, if you want to see Tommy shining, you need to check out his band Seventh Wonder. Sounds like Tommy tries to "adapt" his voice to Kamelot. Would be really nice to see your reaction to Seventh Wonder - Unbreakable

You're right. Same here for me. Roy Khan = Kamelot. However, Tommy Karevik is a very good singer and replacement. Glad I saw Roy twice in the Netherlands with Kamelot.
