I've been a coal miner for almost 30 years I live in Pike Co same one Tyler's singing about. And a creek is same thing as a holler.

Life. Life for real people. Not many artists actually capture it. Tyler does.

They say Americans can't brew beer (I'm from the UK) but when I worked in the South, I loved a fat tyre and frog legs at the local bar. Or buying shit beer from the window of a house in a dry county still tastes amazing. America has its flaws like all countries, but God damn I love the USA and its music.

One of my favorite Tyler songs is "Coal" and its one of his earlier songs but still just as powerful. I've never been a coal miner but growing up in coal country here in WV and having family ties and roots in the coal mining towns it really hits home with the lyrics.

I operated heavy equipment in the coal mines I ran a rock truck for a while and the only way in or out of it was the passenger side window and I was dumping off of a 250 ft high wall so yeah it can be dangerous oh and I lost my leg in the coal mines as well

Hey brother, I'm so glad I found this channel! I've found some good artists here, heard reactions that added to my appreciation, and I've really enjoyed how personal this all is to you. Your emotions come out (especially around addiction) all the time and I just love that. It's showing your humanity. When I was coming up in the farmland of eastern Washington state in what was then a small city (Spokane) I reacted against the good ol' boys by going to rock. I had a vision of those guys as regressive, racist assholes. That was my prejudice, I own it and I'm not proud of it. Some of it was true and some wasn't. I didn't give them a chance so I could see nuance. Over the years I expanded to have a very broad taste in music but I remained antagonistic toward the country scene and music. That is, until about this time last year when I stumbled upon the documentary Heartworn Highways that was shot in the 70s and released in the 80s. It featured young artists living the life. It was raw, dirty, often ill-advised and it was country. I fell in love. Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and Steve Earl are all in it. Great stuff. Since then I've been passionately exploring the bleeding edge of country/americana/country folk/whatever you call it and I see that there are so many powerfully talented people out there performing that I'll never get to see. So, I cherish the ones that I DO discover or are led to, like by you. -------------------------------------- If you've read this far I've got a song for you. I personally am not aware of this guy so he may be famous already for all I know, I just love the song and delivery. His name is Charley Crockett and the song is Blackjack County Chain.
