I don't think parents should just say "you're fat" to their children, instead, introduce healthier food into their diet and spend time with their child doing active things every week like cycling or going for walks. Rather than upsetting the child by telling them to their face.

They need to be told that they are fat so they can self improve physically and mentally, Being nice to them does not produce character, or courage, who most fat women do not have. They have an entitlement mentality, ususally fostered by skinny women, so they can money off of them in the food and agriculutural industry as well clothes industry, So fat or left wing women who have kids can teach thier kids to be CONSUMERS, eventually passing over their entitlement mentality, down to thier children. It's a never ending cycle. And frankly by suggesting that parents "need to be nice" to thier childeren in regards to thier PHYSICAL HEALTH, you're contributing the problem.

newyorkfan16 i think we can’t wrap kids in cotton wool but we can never call them fat. i’ve been called fat multiple times and i’m average build for a young girl and i have dealt with eating disorders due to being told by my family that i was overweight when i was clearly not, looking back on it now. there are millions of other ways to deal with this other than calling your child fat to their face. it’s disgraceful. this message coming from a 14 year old girl. i know how to deal with a child and i’m a teenager. trust my every word when i say that children or teens believe every word their mothers say and take it to heart and we totally hold them on the highest peg in our hearts. please be nice your children.

@Absolutely Fabulous it doesn't really have much to do with Britain exclusively. Children are allowed to be snowflakes because they're children. By a parent directly calling their child fat they are shifting the blame onto someone who can't take care of themselves yet and are still relying on the name caller to look after them. They don't deserve to be talked to in that manner for something that isn't their fault. The parent should be discreet about it and support themselves and the whole family to be more active and eat a more balanced diet.
@chelsea18481
@chelsea18481 4 года назад
Absolutely Fabulous There’s a difference between calling somebody fat and telling them how to be healthier. I agree that you need to be honest with people, but there is no need to be a dick just for the sake of being a dick. This is children were talking about, if you seriously believe that not calling a child fat is me being a “snowflake” then you need to think again. At the end of the day it is the parent that needs to take responsibility, a child doesn’t know better.

Notice how most of the commenters here hating on Katie, are either fat left wing women, or fat fetish enablers, or single mums. It's not suprising really when most fat kids are ususally under the supervision of WOMEN primarily, not MEN....Single women with kids, like to hide the harsh reality of overindulgence, teaching their own kids to be consumers, which gives leeway to the ENTITLEMENT mentality the majority of fat people have.

my mother encourages me to exercise regularly and also provides me with healthy, balanced meals, I don't feel labelling the child as 'fat' is the right way to go about the situation. if the child's health is at risk, it is the parents job to correct this, not scar the child's self esteem.

Financially people did not have the money people now have to spend on food. And people are lazy, it's too much trouble to clean veggies peel spuds and cook. It's much easier to buy Maccas. Katie is making a good, valid point here, I think the hard approach for obesity problems is necessary. Just like with anorexia, if you don't enforce strict laws or reveal harsh truths, then the person could ignore the seriousness of the situation and continue in their ways, and that would result in severe health problems and ultimately death. Being obese is the same, it is an eating disorder, and it requires the same kind of strict recovery plan as anorexic people. A wake up call is required and the seriousness of the situation must be recognised, as it is a matter of life and death.

Honestly I was a fat child, heavily overweight. I'm not now though as an 18 year old man and I recognised that it was the food given to me by my parents (I'd have two Aberdeen Angus rib burgers at Burger King, over 1000calories just for dinner aged 9) i can't understand how they would've seen that as acceptable for me to be eating, even with the problems I had. I was tormented for it, and so over time started to buy my own food and my mental health has been so much stronger from it. I genuinely wish I was told I was a fat child so I could be taught how all that Burger King was damaging me and even exposing me to bullying, I do agree with Katie. It's so much more tolling to deal with the weight issues than it is to come to terms with knowing you're unhealthy, especially when that kid knows the source of the playground bullying will be sorted with the guidance of that more rigid parenting

None of these people understand the root causes of obesity. They COMPLETELY ignore the fact that processed, factory foods (which make everyone fat) didn't exist years ago. It's not ALWAYS laziness that leads to obesity, although it absolutely can be. If you did any research at all you'd discover that a lot of obesity has to do with poverty and the consumption of processed, junk food (which is often all impoverished people can afford and have access to). Seriously, the ignorance surrounding this issue is absurd.
@theslimeylimey
@theslimeylimey 10 лет назад
I find it strange that you blame eating crap on poverty because where I go shopping, produce is the cheapest thing in the store. A sack of rice, potatoes, onions, carrots, cabbage, eggs, bananas, celery, apples are dirt cheap if you calculate the cost per meal. The most expensive things are prepackaged processed "junk" food and candy.
@gemmabuchan7300
@gemmabuchan7300 10 лет назад
I agree with you, Lee, that food prices are ridiculous. Growing up in a family with not much money at all, we could only afford the value range food, which was burgers, chips, fish fingers, etc. However, this also meant we didn't get "treats" such as biscuits or chocolate like the other children we knew did, and we were sent out to play almost every day, we were extremely active, and we were also, because of this exercise, healthy-looking. I think that children should not, in most cases, be obese. They should also not have adults telling them they're fat if they do happen to be obese. Bullying a child gets you absolutely nowhere, and usually just leads to more emotional issues. Children should be encouraged to go out and play and be taught more about healthy foods in school.
@jamesthompson8486
@jamesthompson8486 Месяц назад
People can buy fruit, vegetables, rice, pasta and so on more cheaply than junk food. They could also make meals themselves, and make them healthy rather than buying microwave rubbish. It DOES come down to laziness ultimately, because ready meals can be more expensive but people buy them because they take less time to make

As much as I hate Katie Hopkins, it is better for the parents to gently and kindly tell their children, rather than the children be bullied at school. This is the first time I’ve actually agreed with Katie! She made some very valid points in that the parents are in charge of what that child eats and the ones who opted out of being weighed were the heaviest kids. She’s not blaming the kids but blaming the parents! It does cost a fortune and obesity is a problem we can’t be naive to!

As a child, I was underweight and suffered from eating disorders between the ages of 7-14. My mum used to opt-out of the weighting at school for me because we were already seeing my GP about my weight issues and I was worried about having to be weighed in school, in front of my friends. Just because a parent is opting-out of these measures, doesn't mean their lazy and not doing anything. My mum was doing the most and I saw a psychologist for my eating disorder regularly.

Right! Notice Katie did not blame the kids. She said that the parent is to blame and she is correct. And all the talk about kids sneaking snacks. There were no snacks to sneak when I was a kid, and there was no time to sneak. We were kept busy with chores and homework. And we were chased outside to play. We didn't have cell phones or access to credit cards to call the pizza guy. We were actually supervised. I think the word FAT was just added to sensationalize the interview. I am pretty sure even Katie would not insist on using that word. But she sure as shootin would say---you have put on way too much weight!

No that's not how you do it, Sonia is right, you do this in a respectful loving way and show your child they can become healthy by letting them help you with the cooking and making food from scratch, exercising, having fun whilst exercising so taking them to the park, they can be walking with you hand in hand and you can educate them about mother nature. Teaching them this way will help them to know that the parents aren't being bullies like the cruel children in school, they want to help them because they love them unconditionally.

Treat children, and everyone, with love and respect, they don't want to be fat. Play with them, ration TV, and give them only good food, no money, no fizzy, no vending machines in school, no sweets. It really wouldn't hurt if everyone supported it. It used to be that way and fatness (which does spoil a child's life) was then so rare. Giving our children money has made them into commercial targets and seriously damaged their health. The food industry does not care - after all their success in selling sugar to children just makes future custom for Big Pharma, (which turns out to be the same destination for the profits). Katie Hopkins is brutal. It is up to us to look after our children and protect them from the greed of Big Food, not to blame them when we have neglected our duty.

You know, I actually agree with Katie for once. I am mildly obese and always have been. I'm 16 and I go out of my way to eat because if you dumb it down by saying 'lets go for a walk' I would say no I'd rather play Xbox. If my parents sat me down and say 'look son, you're fat and we need to sort it out' I believe then I would know it's getting out of hand. Sometimes, we need to be a little blunt to get the job done, and THAT is the way the world works. Just, try not to be too blunt. Okay?

If you want to lose weight you should look to exercise such as cycling and cut out sugar. Fat and too much food is rarely the issue. Sugar is one of the few things the body cannot deal with the liver gets over loaded and it cause metabolic problems. Start looking at sugar content for a start. Buy crisps and diluent orange/peach/blackberry that have no (very low) sugar in them. If you also eat a diet that is high in fiber such as fruit and vegetables you will struggle to get other foods in there. You could easily cycle for 2 hours and that would be as good as a 2 hour run. Running and the gym is actually quite difficult.

I just found Katie 2 days ago (interview with Candace Owens). She could certainly change her language about fat people in a lot of ways but she is right...even if one or both of the parents are overweight (for whatever reason) they should realize early on that they shouldn't want their children to also be overweight. Make it a priority for ALL of the family to exercise regularly (as a family) and make better choices in what they are eating (especially foods with a lot of sugar).

Telling a child they're fat is damaging. It leads to mental health issues and eating disorders. But it is an issue that people are overweight. I think a parent should just start to introduce healthy foods and physical activities to that child's routine without putting the child down. I know from experience how emotionally destroying being told you're fat by a parent is, and it's damaged my mental health and self image to this day. So you should keep a child healthy without damaging them.

I completely agree with you Sonia, my cousin is coeliac and the coeliac food is very fattening so she got slightly overweight. She got bullied at school about it and now she's anorexic. People telling a child that they're 'fat' without sugarcoating it in anyway does more harm than good. Also a lot of children have a very low metabolism. I know I did. I danced about 5 times a week as a young child and ate regular meals without snacking in between, I had my 5 a day etc so I was very healthy. Just because I didn't look skinny doesn't mean that I was unhealthy and I didn't get fed the correct things because I did.

Am I the only one here who completely agrees with Sonia? Just because the majority of the society labels people as "snowflakes" it doesn't mean we can't not be gentle with children's feelings. Her three kids are already probably traumatised enough with everything she's put them through so far. Approaching a child's weight issue the way she describes is not the way to go about it, and the way she thinks playground bullies are different from her is bullshit. She is a bully and an abusive mother, she just can't see it. If I had a child that was overweight, of course I would acknowledge the problem, but the last thing I would do is say outright to their faces "you are fat, I have failed you as a parent, we need to sort this out". As Holly says, there are far better ways to do the same thing without potentially traumatising them. I have read things from people who were told they were fat by their parents as kids and later went on to develop eating disorders. It really is quite simple. Cook healthier meals, encourage them to take more exercise and watch what they are eating! I honestly feel so bad for Katie's kids, having to grow up with a mother like her. Did you hear about what she commented on Jesy Nelson from Little Mix? That led to her starving herself and attempting suicide. Katie would probably speak to her kids the same way if they became overweight. If they ended up starving themselves and attempting suicide the way tons of people already do from being bullied, then she'd just be adding fuel to the fire by calling them too soft. She cannot see that she is an evil woman and an abusive mother. She doesn't care about anyone's feelings except her own.
