[Edit 4/2/2024] If you see this: Like and Subscribe, please! It's WILD to me how successfully this video's doing compared to everything else on my channel! Over 99% of viewers aren't subscribed! If everyone who watched this subscribed, I'd be at partnership status in mere hours, helping me out a LOT! I've also got something special planned for Sonic Vol. 2 as an unofficial addon for the hack, that being a "high color" Mesen HD pack with more Mega Drive-accurate color attribution! Also for those commenting on Scrap Brain Zone, an early draft of it DOES exist, tucked away in the Level Select! Input the Konami Code on title screen to access it!
Thanks for playing our hack, really, I'm glad it went well for you, congratulations!!!! I tell you that for the new version that is coming we are experimenting to add sound expansion EPSM (It uses an Yamaha YMF288 soundchip) 😁
I don't like the fan made bootleg NES version of sonic the hedgehog, i like it better if nintendo work with sega to make nes version of sonic than the fan made.
I get this feeling this is from an alternate timeline where Sega was never a rival to Nintendo, but a third party company from the start making games for the NES.
_"Remember... that we once lived..."_ _-Hummer Team, departuring from this mortal realm after giving us world renouned bootleg NES ports,_ _and developers of Sonic the Hedgehog on NES._
I was particularly blown away by Blue Spheres being in this hack, and matter of fact that it wasn't just there, the level designs matched the original things without slowdown!
@@Travis-ea4205no, those felix the cat sega bootleg game are terrible because of the blood and gore at the game over fan made game. Beside Konami is bringing back felix the cat NES and game boy game in March of 2024.
I love it. It's so much better than whatever Hummer Team was doing trying to just crush down the Sonic 1 sprites into a smaller size. (He looked so cynical in some sprites, especially the skidding and second "bored" animations...)
That's actually being addressed in an upcoming update! Not only that but further work on Scrap Brain Zone, the endings and the function from actual Sonic 1 where looking up or ducking would scroll the camera up and down.
@@Gorilla-r4g Already added; his appearance is the same as Super Sonic here but has further amplified physics. You collect the Super Emeralds from the Blue Spheres special stages.
Incredible work, I'm impressed with how well 99% of this plays. The other 1% includes the loops and blue spheres. Loops just need a slight bit of polish but I think blue spheres came out of the oven way too soon. It's super impressive that it's in, but it's really rough. A little extra work (or a lot, considering what it took to create the illusion already) would make the difference between "ambitious but..." or "I can see what they were going for..." and being truly great.
Physics are wonky, but still impressive. The official 8 bit Sonic games had different physics which seem a bit more consistent within those games though they weren't aiming for one to one with Genesis Sonic as much as this appears to be aiming for. Getting this speed out of nes is also impressive.
I've not seen slowdown even once in this hack now that I think about it. At worst, just sprite flicker due to going over the sprite limit, particularly during Blue Spheres special stages!
The instant they revealed Blue Spheres on the RHDN forum thread for this hack I couldn't believe it, but lo and behold, it's real! Yeah, don't think there's anything that can be done about the turning though x_x Shame you only get to use Hyper Sonic for one act as well, well at least until you finish the game, you can cycle back to GHZ Act 1 by pushing start on the good ending "End" screen, with all chaos/super emeralds still collected.
@[VUT] Windows XP TWO Oh that's actually Special Stage 3. But yeah I noticed the palette is definitely off. To my knowledge though, the NES and Famicom have a very, very limited palette of colors you can pick from. Most other special stages have a close enough palette, but the third one? Definitely off. Maybe it's a result of the palette limitation.
@@greenflashmetal Nono, Scrap Brain Zone _is_ in this hack! Input the Konami Code and you can access the level select. Scrap Brain Zone is on the list of selectable zones, all three acts infact! It's a bit early in development though so the levels are a bit empty. Understandably then, it doesn't appear throughout the main course of the game.
I love how throughout all ROM hacks and improvements of this game, people still have yet to figure out how to have Sonic collect that ONE RING when going through loops
MY GOSH, this really IS an improvement to the bootleg NES Sonic game the developers tried to do. Reminds me of those Sonic games on the Game Gear. Whoever made this should get a praise! 😊😁
I can't really speak languages other than english, but I'm glad you seemingly enjoyed this! Looking forward to playing through version 1.6 and showcasing that when it drops!
This is arguably better than the Master System and Game Gear versions. Edit: I meant that it was more impressive, with more enemies on screen, better graphics (in my opinion), and being closer to the original Genesis game than the Master System port, despite having the MS bonus stages.
The first 7 anyway, yeah! None from the second half of the game (S&K), but these special stages are also where you get the Super Emeralds! This blew me away when I first saw it on the RHDN forums, and 1.6 is looking pretty great as well. (It'll use an audio expansion with FM audio!)
I thought this was well-made and kind of novel until I saw they got Blue Sphere into the game. THAT is damn impressive for the NES. The left-right rotation of the stages is kind of jarring but to actually pull that off at all...
Evidently? It's actually able to be pushed even further. The current build, not released yet, has Blue Spheres upgraded with background scrolling, more accurate HUD palettes, more frames of animation for turning, GET BLUE SPHERES and PERFECT text too... it's nuts. I'm really holding out for it right now.
That, you'd be right on! Would you believe that this is still being worked on too? Scrap Brain Zone also exists in this version already, albeit only in level select. Think they're working on fully animated Super Sonic too, and the lead dev has a pretty impressive video showing an upgraded Blue Spheres implementation! Scrap Brain Zone is also being polished up for the next version. Other things include more SMS Special Stage variations, HUD improvements, *Mega Drive* styled checkpoints, so on! I'll be playing through the update in full when that comes out, if that intrigues you?
It’s fine that SEGA didn’t actually make any official Sonic The Hedgehog games for the NES, but that would be really cool if they ever did. At least we’ve got some official Sonic 8-bits games for the Game Gear and the Master System. It would also be really cool if they did 16-bits games for the SNES too. By the way, this is the pretty awesome hack game! 👍
It's very interesing to observe where all the tradeoffs were made. But i do hope that in 1 year they were able to make the music and the sfx better, cuz this is like utilizing only 10% of what NES sound chip is capable of
Scrap Brain IS in the game actually! It's playable through the level select which you access through the Konami Code, but Scrap Brain Zone is in an early stage of development, thus understandably missing from the main game.
It exists in the ROM and is playable actually! Early in development, but playable. Try getting to the level select using the Konami code on the title screen!
why couldn’t they use the 8-bit master system sonic 1 version but change stuff to make it like the megadrive/genesis 1 ? it seems they started from scratch on the whole game, like when you go round the loop thing on green hill zone it kinda looks glitchy when you collect the rings the collision is not there yet 😢
Apparently! They even added Hyper Sonic as a reward, though he's a bit disappointing since while he's even faster as he should be, he doesn't even have a palette cycling effect.
@@RainbwSpctrm The short answer is that the NES only has 4 sprite palettes, which are widely shared by all objects throughout the game, so it is not possible to implement Hyper Sonic coloring without affecting any of these groups or making major sacrifices.
No elongated plumbers in this hack, unfortunately. With the amount of material being made with the blue hedgehog in the next version as well, including new ending cutscene sprites and fully animated Super/Hyper Sonic, Somari's looking unlikely unfortunately.
That's just some boy, that is not Mario and it never will be in my heart (Yeah, someone probably could port SMB to the Master System, maybe even make it look a bit like the official SNES port since Master System can draw more colors on sprites and tiles at once and such.)
Es un archivo de parche. Tienes que aplicar el parche a la ROM original del Somari the Adventurer (sí, se llama Somari a pesar de que es Mario en lugar de Sonic)
Scrap Brain Zone exists in an early stage of development in this version. Input the Konami Code on the title screen and you should hear a ring chime. Pushing start, the last input of the code, takes you to the level select. Scrap Brain Zone is present there and selectable, all three acts!
1:08 with texts Burning is a high effort version of the same song, "Burning" composed by Adam McHummus, originally began as an outtake for Vs. Sonic.Exe, and as a fan-made animation; it will soon be changed into a full "great effort" version of Burning. The song is mainly based on "SONIC HAS PASSED". SHP!Sonic SHP Sonic or Burning Sonic is a burned corpse of Sonic given to life thanks to Genesys burning him alive just to be controlled. Appearance Burning Sonic appears damaged and destroyed, with parts of his quills and head torn off. He also has burn marks around his gloves and body. He also looks like a grayer corpse of Sonic, missing his eyes, exposed teeth, and having gray fur, skin, and gloves. His shoes are also grey. Genesys, also spelled Genysys, is an EXE based on Dr. Robotnik originally created by revie_03 and owned by DumbieDumie [1], who was scrapped in Vs. Mod Sonic.Exe due to controversy with its previous owner. Not much is known of his history other than previously, he was a glitched virus entity that possessed glitched Badniks and permanently killed Sonic, but now he is simply a bloody and haunting impostor of Eggman. He is the star of the song He Burning. Appearance In this mod, Genesys uses his Revie skin, where he is just a scarier Eggman with black eyes and a messy mustache, as well as messy clothes. He is also riding his Death Egg. Trivia Genesys has two interchangeable nicknames which are Genysys and Genesys, as this is because some developers often misspell his name to the point that both names are applied to the same character. It is unknown if Genesys still killed Sonic after giving it to Dumbie. Contrary to popular belief, Genesys was the only opponent that Burning starred in. His encounter would have had a random chance to occur by selecting a song from Freeplay, where he would scare the player, into singing Burning head on. He would also have been made of faulty sprites from Sonic 1, with the notes missing as well. While in his 'aggressive voice', his sprites would show all of his teeth, while in his 'calm voice', he would be toothless. Previously, Genesys was a sentient virus resembling Eggman, but became a disturbing impostor being owned by Dumbie SHP! Sonic and Genysys began after Revie drew Sonic burning, leaving him a charred corpse on March 8, 2021. Genysys was drawn some time later. The original plan for Burning in Vs. Sonic.EXE only had Genesys singing, and Sonic was not part of the song. The two different voices were meant to be Genesys' calm and aggressive state, respectively. Despite this, the two voices can clearly be heard in a duet during the song itself. ru-vid.comxpJNshvP5zM?feature=share
Supposed to be Hyper Sonic I think since those are the super emeralds, but nothing distinguishes Hyper from Super other than further amplified physics. Not even the palette changing effect, sadly
First they are Chaos Emeralds, but later they are Sol Emeralds. This originates from Sonic Classic Heroes. Collect the Chaos Emeralds to become Super. Then collect the Sol Emeralds to become Hyper.
