Here’s an explanation: -Checker-Wrecker Ball is for Demolition -Fire Machine is for slash and burn -Spike is for transport -Robotnik was just exploring Labyrinth Zone -Excluding seesaws, the mines are for ranged demolition -Piston is for pressing metal, laser for cutting So of course he did poorly with those. They weren’t bosses, they were just machines he had handy. Sonic 2’s are similar at first. Many are for utility, not entirely weapons.

Death egg zone has no rings and sonic still turned into super sonic Super sonic requires 50 rings and there are no 50 rings on the death egg. There aren't any rings at all. And Robotnik/Eggman got kinda smarter of getting rid of the rings and to make a robot specifically to defeat sonic in one blow :D
