It just makes no sense that u can get every emerald in emerald hill zone (also aquatic run is just labyrinth zone)

But the fact they don’t put rings at the end of the third special stage is BRUTAL

Chemical plant does have checkpoints you took the no checkpoint route in chemical plant 1

The only special stages I remember being hard are stages 4-6. I needed help from my sister who plugged in a second controller and played as tails in the special stages.

I started playing Sonic 2 on an emulator recently and wow, these remade, actually 3D special stages (from the mobile ports that were the basis for Origins) look kinda "trippy" and disorienting after getting used to the pixelated, "fake 3D" ones, especially during turns. Also I agree that the Special Stages are frustrating, especially when they require you to run at the "celing" _(why can't you reach those rings by jumping? :v)._ I'm at the 5th stage, the one at 6:30 _(and Chemical Plant in terms of zones - I skipped all chechpoints in CPZ Act 1 and some in Emerald Hill, it seems 😅)_ and it feels like I spent more time at the special stages than in the game proper _(I use save states in place of infinite lives and coin special stage resets that Origins provides)._ Still, I don't think the special stages are inherently badly designed, since I figured out some tricks and mechanics _(like the fact that jumping from the side of the half-pipe makes your jump faster/shorter)_ just by playing them repeatedly. It's just that if I wasn't able to attempt them over and over, I would probably have to beat the game hundreads of times. 4:18 relatable

Special stage 4-area 2-2 player vs 1 player ring counts, check it & I think you'll be surprised, plus I find the stages get easier with practice, plus there are 3 possible start posts in act 1 & 5 possible in act 2 of Emerald Hill if you know where to look, so in a way it's possible to get all the Emeralds before the first boss [in S3 it's impossible before the 2nd main boss and even later for Knuckles]
