I listen to a lot of genesis covers, Sonic and Streets of Rage specifically. This has got to be the best cover of any of them I've ever heard. It does absolute justice to the original, but also adds in it's own flavor. This is just a phenomenal cover, wish you guys did more from the Sonic and SoR series. Thanks for sharing!
I always had a feeling you guys were musicians... Best VGM podcast around, hands down. This song is incredible, and almost no one talks about it. Then you go ahead and blow my mind by playing it live. Fuckin awesome!
This is amazing! My favorite Sonic track ever. I always thought about how it would sound with a full band. You know, without the limitations back then from the 16-bit Genesis. This is how it would sound if the game was made today. Thank you guys so much for doing this. This is epic!
This actually brought tears haha what a masterpiece of a soundtrack and this has got to be one of the most faithfu covers of any song ever played truly enjoyed amazing
Wow... this is so good! You guys have the best podcast ever. Seriously. I get excited just scrolling through the episodes and knowing I have years worth of content to exercise and drive to. :D
Jammin'! How'd you get that get that genesis-y 'trumpet' sound (if you don't know what I'm talking about, it's the lead instrument in this remix ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p0EAL7cOjRc.html) Is it just a run-of-the-mill 'trumpet' sound on a Yamaha YM2612/OPN2 or is it something else?
Thanks! Hehe, that is a great question-- it took a lot of work. Basically, we opened up the exact patch in FM-Drive, (same one used in Hydrocity Act 2) and then made a long sample of each note. Then used a custom sample player to assign them to the corresponding notes, so we can use a midi controller to play it live! Haven't seen anyone do that :) We actually will have more videos coming that also use authentic Genesis and SNES samples. It's loads of fun!
Super Marcato Bros. So you assigned each instrument in Hydocity Act 2 to a key on the keyboard and jammed using those keys? Cool! Sounded like it took a while! But still, *THAT'S* Commitment to the Artform!
I've been a long time listener of the Super Marcato Bros. Podcast. I love how well researched the show is, very informative. You guys brought this track back to my attention on one of your sonic episodes. Killer performance, super tight playing! I didn't realize you guys had a video of this at the time, but I made a vid a while back of this tune as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FL1qMV8EBBc.html Keep up the awesome work, I learn something new every episode!
this is great but the drummer needs to get better at this song, im pretty sure the hihat does sixteens and not fours (im not native english speakers i don't know if im refering to the right rythmic figure sorry :c )
my music theory is lacking so I didn't understand any of that stuff, but your english is perfectly understandable. while I can't tell you exactly what due to not knowing much about music theory, I can definitely hear something odd about the drums.
