Not gonna lie, I'd totally play a Sonic game with that kind of toon shaded/cel shading aesthetic. You pulled off a nice rendition of the model by still keeping it low poly but modern.
If they were to remake the games I think it would look better in that style then making it look modern/realistic Also for Sega it would cost less due to needing less detail so it won't come out rushed lol
@@JesseVlogs you should look into the spark the electric jester game series, made from a fan who loves sonic and based the game mechanics around it, also has a similar style to the video
Weird thing i'm obsessed with about this animation is the way it's choreographed feels so realistic. The way he jumps startled when he first gets shot at. The way after he slide so on the machine, and he hops off- he has to touch the ground to maintain his balance.
Welcome back Legend! For a 7 second animation, it still show you progessed a lot since then. Like, I could hardly believe it was done by one person after you showed your workflow.
This would actully be really cool, imagine if we had SA1 and SA2 remakes, but then they really embrace the anime vibes and make the game in this 2D animation like style
I NEED this in my life. SADX is 2nd to SA2B in terms of the GOAT sonic games idgaf what anyone says. Just a SA2 remake with this beautiful artstyle in this clip with online, visiting other players chao lobbys/bring ur own chao, add a few more shadow levels, add mech-less tails and eggman segments, fix the great amount of jank the game has and youd have the sonic game everyone wants
@@123451234alex one thing that I would love is if, we could use the avatar from Sonic Forces on the chao garden, imagine the chao drawing your character with crayon on the ground
I gave up being a Sonic fan after over a decade of stale, conservative, lifeless Sonic stuff. But this really reminded me of the fire that used to burn in my heart for this character. It was truly incredible and everything I wish the series would go for in terms of Aesthetics and dynamism. Thanks for reminding a lapsed fan like me why I loved Sonic in the first place. Phenomenal work.
I've only ever played Adventure 2 my whole life. I did have Shadow the Hedgehog and Secret Rings, but I never really even got to play them anyways since discs are fragile and scratch easy. Regardless of what some Sonic games did to Sonic, I still loved the idea of the blue blur anyways I did get to play and complete Mania, Generations, and Adventure 2 on PC. One of my biggest mistakes, is buying Sonic on PC.. The devs don't give a single sit about Sonic on PC. They're WAY less broken on other platforms! I really wanted to play generations but it's unbearably unoptimized and buggy. Game-breaking glitches and crashes. I've been soft-locked a few times. My controller just randonly stopped working bcuz the game switched to MnK mid game, so I had to force close the game and relaunch it. So many issues.. Adventure 2 was glitchy AF, but tolerable. Cutscenes were out of sync. Did have to force close the game a few times when it glitched Mania black screened my PC when switching audio outputs while game is running. Edit: Issue was fixed. Twas a Windows thing) And seeing Colors Ultimate just killed it for me.. I have higher performance expectations for Frontiers on my Switch than I do as a PC port smdh But despite how broken Sanic games are, I'mma still play them anyways bcuz I end up enjoying them
Same. I loved Sonic as a kid, then fell out of it hard as a teen, then fell back in love with the movie as an adult. It's funny how we go through phases like that
I stopped liking sonic years ago but I still play mania a little bit but I left sonic for SpongeBob games instead dunno why but its very additive for me to do SpongeBob’s laugh :/
God this is too awesome I never imagined how cool Yuji Uekawa's shading in 3D looks With just 7 seconds i'm convinced this should be a main art direction You did great pal
Seven seconds of pure magic! I loved the sparks, the little flinch he made upon getting shot at, all the facial expressions, everything was wonderfully immersive. Makes me appreciate every second of amazing action animation, like those great scenes from rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles
Thank you for making a video like this! I actually didn't think about rendering stuff like this at separate layers in blender. This was very educational.
This captures exactly how I imagined Sonic in my head as a kid. You’d think this would be a natural progression in the game’s style, cuz it fits so well. Amazing work.
That animation was incredible. And the amount of work that went into those 7 seconds. I wanted more, but at the same time I got a sense that it’d take years to make a full video.
Designing stuff takes lots of time, doing stuff from scratch using reference images. Crazy how many people don't know the dedication it takes to make games, animation, and gcode for printing objects.
While SEGA has been plummeting down over the years, the community itself has been thriving and I love seeing what people have done with my favorite character. Doesn’t matter if it’s concept art, Reviews, fan games or even Amazing redesigns like this video. I just love seeing people who who truly love a character like I do and express it in their own way. From 5 yrs old to 21 my Passion for my favorite character gets bigger and bigger and a huge reason for that is the community 🙌……THANK YOU!!!!
This is so cool man, you’ve inspired me to actually get into modeling and animation, I’m going to install blender later this afternoon. Thank you so much
Love that you made this! I've been dying to know how you did everything! The fact that you made that Sonic Rig from scratch is amazing. I feel like this is asking a lot, but I would love to animate that sonic model myself. I'd be more than willing to pay you, if that helps! With all that being said, you really knocked it out of the park with this animation! You captured Sonic's speed and cool factor perfectly! I can't wait to see more!
this model of sonic truly feels so cool and badass. I feel like recent sonic models make him look cheesy and don't make him out to be as "cool" as before. The animation on this is also amazing and refreshing. Love the way you made his spikes and shoes
It's been 5 years! Super glad to see your still animating. This part caught my eye during the reimagined video because of how good it looked. I cant believe I didn't notice your name on it.
Holy hell man, this is AMAZING. I have only a rudimentary understanding of 3D modeling and rigging from a college stint in animation, but I’m still impressed by the sense of style you gave Sonic’s action here- not just the throwback to Uekawa with the filters for an outline and inverted edges, but the 2D additions with the comic-book esque “impact” effects all over. Everything about these seven seconds is oozing with a sense of life and energy that I would ADORE seeing in a fully-fledged Sonic game. You should be proud of everything you accomplished in this, it’s professional-quality stuff!
Still crazy to see just how capable Blender is now. I’ve been learning Maya and Unreal Engine for school rn and even I wish I had time to learn Blender on the side for this stuff
Dude, everything about this video is perfect. The animation itself, the breakdown of it, everything, man. This actually to give me the hope and inspiration that maybe I could do something like this on Blender one day. Hell, this even gave me hope as a Sonic fan. Good job!
Your portion of the video was honestly some of the most stellar animation I’ve ever seen. The dynamic movements and the effects that accompany them just pack so much punch that I could damn well loop it another 30 times and still feel the same way. I hope you continue to improve your craft, whether that be making more animations for the channel or finding working in the industry and making a name for yourself. You are an individual rife with potential no matter how you choose to move forward, and don’t let no one tell you different.
in my opinion, although this animation is stellar and chimera has all the reasons for sega to hire him, i think that corporate greed is gonna make him do a bunch of stuff in a short amount of time and it would make his work turn out pretty sloppy you're free to disagree with me, i'm not into the adult life yet
This is really inspiring! Makes me want to learn grease pencil just to get those cool smears, but I know like nothing about it lmfao edit: YOOO I JUST CHECKED OUT YOUR CHANNEL, I WATCHED CROSSOVER WORLD YEARS AGO AND IT'S AMAZING TO SEE YOUR PROGRESS SINCE THEN!
This looks absolutely beautiful and very visually appealing it has that cartoony look but yet combined with the 3-D look like shell shading I absolutely love this concept I think that may be sick I should consider making a game with this type of render in mind as a throw back to early game designs from the early 2000’s while still Incorporating that modern aesthetic and you put a lot of time into this it seems and that’s really good you did a banger job man thumbs up to you bro
The fact that someone can do animation like this is incredibly impressive. When I first saw the clip my mouth literally dropped in awe. Amazing work man.
This looks extremely amazing. You capture exactly how fast he is while making him seem like an organic being - too often Sonic just becomes a "I run forward extremely fast at this set speed" but the fact that he bounces and moves his body makes it seem like he's comfortable manipulating his body at that high speed. Also the shading looks fucking gorgeous. I want this to be the standard for Sonic stuff from now on.
First 12 seconds of the video: INSTANT LIKE What a stunning animation! In 7 seconds, you managed to show why Sonic is so damn cool. Impressive skills, admirable effort. I'll stick around...
Easily my favorite clip from the colab, awesome work! If someone mods this model into Frontiers or any other sonic game in the future, I'll definitely be having it on all the time
@@TheOscarGamer_ the CGI cutscenes in modern sonic games (i'm assuming that's what you're talking about) aren't by sega though. i'm 80% certain it was all done by marza animation planet.
You did an excellent job in your scene and it was actually one of my favorites in the collab. I’m still a noob in blender but I do want to make awesome stuff like this 👍
Wow! I love this animation bro! Are you gonna make this a movie or a new episode of Sonic or something? Anyway this animation is so cool!!!Continue like that 👍🏾
Woah, are you using renders and 2d art to create this cell shaded style? Idk what it is but seriously keep it up, it makes this work unique to you. Can't think of any other Sonic animation that pulls that off at least yet.
you are amazingly talented. I am genuinely impressed with this. from a sonic fan to a sonic fan. keep up the amazing work. Sega should hire you. if all sonic cutscenes were this good the games would be something else
This just popped up on my RU-vid feed and I'm glad I clicked on it. As an old-school Sonic Fan and professional Blender user, this video really floats my boat! The style of this video looks incredible! If only Sega put this much care and attention into their modern games. I'd love to see a Sonic game with this vibe throughout!
You rendered this on a 2012 Macbook... my friend, you deserve the patience award. Jesus! Amazing work, and I love your mindset. But my god, it's people like you that deserve better hardware to produce their craft.
This is both gorgeous and inspirational. I've been working on an animation for a while that goes for a similar style, and I've been feeling a bit discouraged lately. But after seeing this, it makes me want to keep pushing forward and never give up! This is absolutely breathtaking. You're amazing 👍
Just came up in my recommendations. Those 7 seconds of animation brought so much nostalgia of when I played it on the GameCube, with 3 other siblings. We would raise our own Chao, or help each other on stages, or actually play the multi-player. Thank you for creating and sharing your process, it did bring me happiness to my day.
Damn, must feel nice. Had to beat the game on my own, sister and brother refused to play with me, shee step dad and mom said nah. I aint get help, had to use google.
