Also valid. On the contrary however, Sonic Advance 1+2 have a chao garden, but no one deems those Adventure games. 06 and Unleashed should’ve had chao gardens imo, but I feel like Iizuka brings up the “adventure games need a chao garden” point as an escape goat
Also, all of Sonic Frontiers is a ginormous de-volved Chao Garden. Iizuka did state, that we will get Adventure 3. We don't need it, but Sonic Team does want to make it.
People call Shadow The Hedgehog "Shadow 05" because it makes it more clear they're talking about the game, not the character, in certain contexts. Otherwise it can sometimes sound confusing, because the game and the character have the exact same name. Sonic doesn't have this problem because no one calls the original Sonic The Hedgehog, well, "Sonic The Hedgehog," everyone says Sonic 1 instead. But Shadow didn't get another game so you can't really call his game "Shadow 1" so the only other option is the year it came out in.
Ok but SA 1 and 2 were functional games on release? Sonic 06 would've been great if they had properly worked on it. Unleashed was the next evolution of Sonic games so its not really fair to compare it the it to the adventure games. Adventure formula is basically a multi character campaign that ends in a super hedgehog final campaign.
Big facts! Before I delve into the alternative timeline idea(s), I do mention that 06 has the framework of an adventure game and that I strongly believe that Unleashed would’ve been another adventure-style game if the team had more time to flesh out 06. It’s like we only got Unleashed as it stands as a retroactive fix to 06 (and by extension Secret Rings’) expected failures probably.
I actually don't associate the Chao Garden with the Adventure formula. I don't enjoy the garden but I love the gameplay. I also remember that the demo for Sonic Unleashed was called "Sonic World Adventure" or something similar. Great video!!
As much as it would hurt, I believe that an adventure game can come out without the chao garden attached to it, so it’s fair to see that others think the same! SEGA for sure still acknowledges the existence of the lil guys, but obviously wants to move on from them. I appreciate the compliment however, and hope you stick around for more☺️!
Been saying this like forever. Why people keep asking for a game that already happened? Adventure 3 would only be a name, the game itself, like any other entry, wouldn't be faithful to any of the prior titles.
@@Kill_Binho Def feel this. Honestly feel like the bar for a game specifically named ‘Adventure 3’ would just be way too high and no one would be happy at this point. Unless there was some soft reboot of the series (we see how Sonic Boom went), then it wouldn’t make any sense. They’ll probably make the next big anniversary game “Sonic Frontiers 2”, but have it focus on the whole cast, which would ultimately be our SA3
Iizuka himself said that in the interview I previewed at the beginning of the video ( I can link you the page if you’d like!) I don’t believe that’s the case those, as I mentioned to someone else that both Sonic Advance 1+2 have Chao gardens, but are far from adventure games
SA3 already exists and it's the best Sonic game ever. It's just that they didn't name it "Adventure" but "Advance 3" for some reason (joking). Still, Sonic Advance 3 is the best
Just so you know, Sega was originally thinking of having Sonic Heroes be called Sonic Adventure 3, but sometime during the production of it they decided to scrap that idea due to it being the first multi-platform Sonic game, and they understood that since the Dreamcast (which at that time SA1 and SA2 were still exclusive to) was being discontinued, anyone who didn't already have that console and those 2 games to play on it, would just be getting into playing an Adventure 3 game on a PS2, GameCube, or an XBOX console without already knowing what happened in the story plots of the previous Adventure games that had led up to the story plot of that multi-platform game. So they settled on having the title be Sonic Heroes instead of Sonic Adventure 3 to avoid causing that problem. In my opinion I don't think that it was built much like an Adventure game at all and that Sonic 06 is more of a Sonic Adventure 3 game than any other Sonic game has ever been.
I’d heard that was the case. Do you think they should’ve just re-released Adventure DX, then 2: Battle on all consoles , and finally followed it up with Adventure 3 proper then?
Funny enough, but in development, Sonic unleashed was actually going to be called Sonic Adventure 3, but due to the reception of 06, it was decided to go in a separate direction Although the game was still called Sonic World Adventure outside of North America
You seeee it! I whole heartedly believe that Unleashed should’ve been the cap off to 10 years of the adventure Era (SA1 in 1998 and ending in 2008 with unleashed) it would’ve been PEAK and then bring in generations as the first boost game like I mentioned in the video? Man Sonic would’ve done NUMBERS
Sonic ‘06 and Unleashed were ‘Adventurelike’ Sonic games, but aren’t canonical to Adventure 1 or 2. In fact: Sonic ‘06 was a failed reboot, and Unleashed isn’t connected to them neither!
Adventure 3 already exists. In fact, Adventure 4 and 5 ALSO exist. Heroes, Shadow 05, Sonic 06. Same way Unleashed 2, 3 and 4 also exist with Colors, Generations and Forces. To add onto that, it is bizarre that ppl consider those games part of "the adventure era" especially Heroes, but they're not.... Adventure games? That makes no sense lol It's strange how the "Adventure formula" is this... super overly specific?? List of descriptions?? But games like Unleashed, Colors and Gens are paired as one continuous series style of games. Even now we have a new style of Sonic that will more than likely take on the mantle of the next continuous set of games with Frontiers, and the Open-Zone TLDR; it's a lot simpler than I feel fans make it. -> SA1, SA2, Heroes (SA3), Shadow 05 (SA4), Sonic 06 (SA5?) -> Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors (SU 2), Gens (SU 3), Forces (SU 4) -> Sonic Frontiers, Shadow Gens (SF 2?), ??? etc etc
Honestly a fair way of breaking it down! The ‘adventure era’ is something that I feel like people dubbed those games as due to the similarities. I wish that we got a full decade (1998-2008, hence why I think Unleashed should’ve been in the criteria) of official adventure games though so that the discussion could be put to rest. I want to look forward for Sonic’s future, but I hate how much had to be sacrificed to get here. Still here for the long haul though.
@@Jiggyx3 you feel me 🙏🏾😭 this year really giving me hope for the future just gotta keep it alive, they know we want it 🫡 Frontiers was a lil blueprint i feel
I’m of the same belief. Some don’t count it as such due to heroes being “vastly” different, but it most certainly is lol. I just wish the gameplay was a biiiit more creative for certain characters/types
How is Sonic Heroes not Sonic Adventure 3? It fits your definition of Adventure-style games and it's a main series title that came out right after Adventure 2. So that makes it Adventure 3, right? Plus, Heroes' main thing was 3-man teams, fitting for Adventure "3". That would make '06 Sonic Adventure 4, because you are right, that game absolutely is an Adventure game that I would say was Adventure 3, but I am already asserting that Heroes is 3, so '06 has to be 4. Unleashed is not an Adventure-style game, it does not fit your definition, which I agree with. It could be _made_ into an Adventure-style game by making the changes as you suggested (and they are good changes), thus making it Adventure 5, but as it stands Unleashed is not Adventure 3 (or 4 or 5). I don't know why Colors gets so much hate. It was good. But at any rate, it also is not an Adventure game. I haven't played Lost World or Forces yet, so I can't comment on those. Frontiers was amazing, but still isn't an Adventure game. Maybe the Final Horizon DLC makes the last bit into an Adventure-like game, but as a whole I don't think so.
@@HyperManSP You make valid points (and thank you for the praise on my concepts!). I agree that Heroes could be SA3, but probably where that fact falls short for some people is that there from a story-perspective; There isn’t much going on between the different teams aside from the final story, each team only crosses paths with each other 1 time. The world also feels a bit ‘samey’ and since a lot of people consider SA2’s story the gold-standard for world building, I think they were looking for that out of Heroes. Honestly in a perfect world, where we get a remake/redefining of Sonic Heroes, I’d love a set of different levels for each team, unique movesets, and maybe even a cross-over level or two where you can mix n match two teams that just battled each other for 1 level. Just imagine in these levels, it was sort of like Sonic Riders; Where if you have (Sonic, Shadow, Rouge for example), yes you’d have twice the speed, but you’d be locked out of any ‘Power-routes’. It’s a far-fetched, but a man can dream 😭
@@Jiggyx3 I don't know, I felt the teams in Heroes seemed to have _enough_ interaction with each other to qualify as "Adventure 3". Could it be better? Sure. But that would just mean Adventure 3 (aka Heroes) was not as good a game as Adventure 2. I like the mix-n-match idea. Extra story centered around new levels where you do this, that canonically can just be explained as having "happened off-screen" and simply didn't affect the ending _too_ much (maybe add/change a few lines in the ending to reference the new stuff, but it'd basically be the same as the original). Btw, the final villians of Adventure, Adventure 2, and Heroes all have similar body plans. Perfect Chaos, BioLizard, and Metal Overlord are all dragon-ish, the first two are more serpetine, with BioLizard being more of - well, a lizard. But still, all of the "Adventure" games have dragon-like villian. Bonus - the main depiction of Iblis in '06 is serpentine.
I will say that the characters do speak to the members of their respective teams a lot in-game, but I liked how long-ish the cutscenes were in SA1+2 and wished we got more of that. The team who does this these imo is Team Dark, even though they also could’ve been given more dialogue growing each others character. I will say though, if players pay close attention to the dialogue in the stages, you can tell how much at least Team Dark grows on each other from Seaside Hill to Final Fortress.a nice touch. I didn’t peep that about the bosses though, and in hindsight, Iblis’ phase 2 does imply a LOT about the future that team Sonic and Dark get sent to. Without Silver there, he was able to grow from a “larvae” or serpent (phase 2) to a bigger threat capable of walking (phase 3) finally realized. Now that I think about…Sonic 06 kinda has biblical undertones.
@@Jiggyx3 Ooh, do tell. Biblical stories are often archetypical, and archetypical stories are ones which people tend to just like, religious or not. So, a [Sonic] plot that parallels one is automatically going to be better. Which could explain why I like '06's story so much - minus the weird interspecies kiss.
Nothing too specific, just the creation story that was present in SA1 and 2 sort of parallels that in 06. -Chaos was born from a mutated chao that wanted to protect its brethren. - Shadow was created to be the savior of earth in a sense - Solaris is theorized to be the entity that creates/sustains the flow of time, ensuring that the universe follows the order it’s supposed to go (think akin to the LOKI series) All of these things were either created due to circumstance, or by ‘man’ to keep the order of something
They may not be, and you do have a point about the speed being something that’s just given to you (the Mach speed sections quite literally). Unleashed I feel like it is deserved in a few of the levels especially the later ones since the difficulty ramps up
@@Jiggyx3 no i meant that theyre not adventure 3 because they dont play like adventure 1 or 2, narratively they might be sa3 but gameplay-wise theyre not
@@theblackmoonrisingYuh huh Cause Sonic Advance is called Sonic Advance and Sonic 4 is called Sonic 4 so people gotta cope with Sonic Mania or Advance not being Sonic 4 just like how Sonic 06 and Heroes is not Sonic Adventure 3 those 2 games are mid anyway.
Fair enough and I appreciate the opinion lol. The framework of an Adventure game is most definitely in retail 06 though, and seeing as that game in its base form was meant to be a soft reboot for the series as stated by the creators, it’s plausible that they’d want to cut what was probably deemed as “fluff” from a story meant to re/introduce these characters to people. Unleashed as it stands is a “here, we’re sorry for messing up that last game”, but the ultimate goal here was to explore the possibilities of what could’ve been.
That’s true! I don’t believe Heroes is the SA3 SEGA intended, and more so just a game that still utilizes some of the framework of an Adventure game. They tried something new with the teams, and a lot of people didn’t like it. I give it its point for the attempt though, personally, plus it is a fun game for me.
