Jirard: " Sonic will forget about these characters and will never talk about them again." Sonic Generations opening *mentioning Secret Rings & Black Knight*
And again Sonic Generation. He mentions it after beating Green Hill the first time and freeing Tails. "No stranger than rescuing genies magic story books or, saving aliens in a interstellar amusement parks."
"not mentioning these events again" flash forward to a Sonic Generations "No Stranger than saving Genies from Magic books or aliens from Interstellar amusement park"
The story, music, and visuals were neat, but I hate the gameplay and controls with a passion. And for me, a game that fails at that fails entirely. If they remade it with mechanics and controls closer to something like Unleashed's day stages, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
I only thought it was okay... it wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t good. SatBK was one of the first sonic games I got, and I loved it, but the more I go back and play it or even watch gameplay, I notice that it just doesn’t fit well with sonic. Sure his attitude is, well... well it’s sonic, but the rest of it isn’t. It would be fine if it was it’s own thing, but people mainly don’t like it because it’s a sonic game... and motion controls
This was actually one of my favorite Sonic games of all time. I didn't play all of them, granted. Sonic CD still eludes me, but I've never thought of most of the issues in this game you have as actual problems with the game. When I was bad at using the controls, I played until I got better or got better equipped, then the game was awesome. I never had a problem using the Wii remote in the ways asked and once you get the hang of it and memorize a stage, you can style and show off and jump through huge sections of the stages that you'd normally have to proceed slowly through. I STILL listen to this game's music. I think it's amazing. Our views differ drastically and that's cool, but I thought this game was a fantastic time.
NoctilioGames How can Sonic CD elude you?! Hunt that game down and play it! It's one of Sonic's shining moments, introducing both Metal Sonic and the figure eight peel out. The special stages are quite unique as well, much different then the usual "collect x number of rings".
This game was a big part of my childhood, and I played the hell out of the party mode. I totally forgot this game even had it until you mentioned it, and now I have a ton of memories of ACTUALLY ENJOYING the whole game, party mode and all. To be fair, at the time I thought that the story in Sonic games was the most important part. Ah, the wonders of childhood innocence...
It may be the nostalgia or the winds of time bluring my vision, but I honestly remember Sonic and the Secret Rings being fun. Nothing game-changing, but fun. As for Sonic and the Black Knight. I'm glad to see [from the comments] that I'm not the only one who liked it.
I just replayed it for my own 3D sonic marathon, and it's the second best sonic game I've played so far second only to adventure 2. When you start to trust the motion controls the game is a blast.
8:05 Despite being a spin-off game, Sonic and the Secret Rings is referenced in Sonic Generations when Sonic is pointing out to Tails that their current predicament is "no stranger than rescuing genies in magic books."
21st Century Guy Well, as someone who wasn't there to hear all those promises before launch, I will defend Spore to the death for everything it is and continues to be.
2:54 to 2:57 I like Sonic and the Black Knight. 7:50 to 7:54 Some characters have returned in small games, like Sonic Dash. 7:55 to 8:00 Sonic almost always never changes as a character. 8:02 to 8:05 Sonic mentioned Secret Rings' events in Sonic Generations. 19:58 to 20:37 What I want to know, is how did Big even get in the book? 23:47 to 23:56 I'm too big of a Sonic fan to get rid of my copy. Even though the gameplay has a lot of flaws. And I haven't played it since 2007. It's just there...waiting for me to play it again... Anyways, as always, wonderful video!
When he was talking about themed months, I was like "EYYYYY! Sonic month!" Then he was like "It's Disappointing Games Month!" And then I was like "... EYYYYYY! Sonic month!!!!"
I remember getting all the gold medals for every mission on this game about over 10 years ago… my heart goes out to Jirard, especially the missions that require you to not touch any pearls or risk getting an instant mission failed.
Secret Rings and Black Knight are two of my favorite Sonic games. I have a ton of fun with both. I realize both have flaws, but I do think they're underrated.
Arthur. Florence True. These games take a long time to beat, plus they have to make the video. Every Friday is already asking for a lot from one person.
I think he was talking about the for honor videos that didn't affect this episodes release at all. Just bitching about more content he didn't ask for, probably.
Ya know, I forgot that this game had anything other than Party mode. 7 Years of owning it and no one in my family remembers that there is a story mode. That summarises this entire game.
I honestly would have preferred a port of Sonic 06. I'd rather have a wii version of a crappy game that had an amazing soundtrack than a new shitty game with forced, questionable motion controls and an even shittier soundtrack with an annoying ass song (Seven Rings in hand) that should never have existed in the first place. Edit: And also the sequel which didn't suck as bad but still sucks dick.
I can not believe you played the game that far. I couldn't get past the mechanics after the first two or three levels. GIVE THIS MAN A MEDAL! maybe some therapy too...
NO, DO NOT CALL SONIC AND THE SECRET RINGS AN RPG. THAT IS NONSENSE. Plus you already called it a runner earlier in the episode. Just because you level up doesn't make it an RPG.
16:44 He said Secret Rings is an RPG, not that it just had RPG elements. But don't worry, I'm not really that upset. I just expect Jirard to know his stuff after 200+ episodes.
8:03 "never mentioning these events again." sonic himself does actually say at the beginning of generations "no stranger than rescuing genies in magic books."
Time break is actually a very useful ability introduced in racing games, you may recognize it in the Need for Speed franchise as Speed breaker (ironically enough, speed break in sonic and the secret rings does the complete opposite) It was actually such a useful tool, that people looked forward to it in later NFS games, and it was a staple of the series, and let's be honest, in a game where we go fast and we have little control over it, going a bit slow with more control is an amazing ability
I feel like if they remade some of these stages in the new engine they'd be absolutely fantastic. I loved this setting. Shame it was on the wii. I remember loving party mode as a kid back in the day. The game itself was a blast as well for 8 year old me.
I actually enjoyed Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic and The Black Knight, personally I've always been and always will be a true Sonic fan. That means playing every game and enjoying it. Which is precisely what I've done so far.
Sonic and the Black Night was my favorite game when I was a kid, sure it is not the best, now that I am looking at it now, but it blinds me with nostalgia
I liked Sonic and the Black Knight, sure the controls weren't the best but I had a blast regardless and the message the story gave is arguably the best the series has brought in any of it's stories.
... I liked Sonic and the Black Knight. I loved it. Maybe it's my nostalgia talking, but I thought it was great fun. Same with Unleashed, though I didn't quite like the night levels as much at all.
He says he’s not going to do Mighty Number 9 because the achievements are too hard. One of them is go through the entire campaign on the hardest difficulty without taking damage, which for a game that is as broken as Mighty Number 9 is a bullshit achievement. Even Dark Souls doesn’t have an achievement that hard.
Black Knight was good. Made use of the motion controls in a way I was able to work WELL. The plot actually got Sonic to grow as a character, and felt nice in the first place. Caliborn was a legit character too. The music was just as good, the graphics worked, I liked the different modes and unlockables, I really enjoyed it. Also. Donate it to a game infinitely more competent than sooooooo much else from the same tier. WTF, man. *Secret Rings was not that freaking bad.*
Just finished the game an hour ago, and honestly? Solid bottom of A tier, if the gameplay/controls were more similar to other sonic games easily S tier and even the best sonic game; the story, music, characters, music/OST, scenery; it’s all a breath of fresh air, genuinely worth playing simply because of everything else the game has to offer
9:12 😂😂😂😂 I started dying omg how REAL that is xD. I remember when I would take a break and that shit would just keep repeating hat my dad at one point was like “ TURN THAT SHIT OFF mAkE bElIeVe ‘S rEbOrN” 🤣
2:04 - Actually it didn’t, quite the opposite in fact because the team that made 06 was split in half to have one side begin making secret rings & the other to continue making 06. Granted, the story probably would’ve still been terrible regardless, but the game itself probably would’ve turned out good if it didn’t lose half it’s members & wasn’t rushed out as a result imo
For some reason, this never went into my subscription box, even though I watch most of your videos, and have the bell rung. The only reason I found this was because it was recommended on my home page. Why, RU-vid?
I'm usually a fan of motion controls(probably due to playing so many first person PC games), but even I found Secret Rings pretty awkward... like... I only played it a few hours, while helping my younger sister with it... but we both ended up giving up due to not even being able to get through the tutorial. It's honestly unresponsive to a very odd level.
I really liked this game. It was the first Wii game I got besides Wii Sports and I played it a bunch. It was a satisfying challenge. I'd never complete it though, doesn't seem worth the trouble.
At the time I enjoyed this game like fifty times more than Adventure 2 I liked that it was all platforming all running fast and the multiplayer was fun as someone who didn’t want to waste $50 on the bad Wii Mario Party games
