Wait, the Happy Tree Friends writers? I did not expect the writers of a animated series where animals constantly kill each other in the most gruesome ways wrote Sonic Colors. Those two are COMPLETELY different forms of content! (I don't think you're missing out on much anyways, the show is like Tom & Jerry but it's mostly squirrels, and the slap stick comedy has a lot of bloody gore. No dialogue.)
This is one of my favorite sonic games. The gameplay, soundtrack, and graphics are all incredible. The story is actually one of my favorites in the series.
@sikosonix9013 Anything from adventure to 06 is either badly voice acted or really awkward to me, I think those stories have really cool ideas, but don't execute them well. I also don't find most stories after colors that are full of humor to be that good, but I think that Color's pulled off the more light-hearted stories the best out of any game after it. I think Colors has the best voice acting from the modern voice cast. Although the jokes aren't that funny, I still find them charming. The animation is also really good, and the ending is amazing with the wisps reviving Sonic, I just find it to be a fun and short story and much better than something like adventure 2 where I'm caught off by a weird line of dialogue or random audio mixing issues. Sorry if that was too much. lol, thanks for asking, though
This game was actually my introduction to sonic. I replayed it recently and tbh its just super fun to play and collecting the red rings doesnt feel like a hastle. I do agree that the writing is...... questionable but its still an amazing game. Love you're videos can't wait for you're next one. Keep up the good work.
It's funny how this is a controversial take now in the fandom. The thing is, only a few Sonic games have gotten good reviews from critics. If fans keep going "this positively received game is bad actually" then there will only be bad games left lol. It's just that the Sonic franchise rarely has any wins, so making the 4 or so positively received games out to be bad will push people away from the franchise and make them think "wow, I heard this game was good, but if even this is secretly bad, then the franchise must truly be terrible!"
Just noticed the ending cutscene looks like it is pre-rendered 15:47 specifically. That’s really weird how just the opening and the ending are pre-rendered. I wonder if they outsourced any pre-rendering or if maybe it was a budgeting restraint. IDK I don’t play a lot of Sonic games lol. Good video at the end of the day, definitely one of your best to date
Yeah that's the case for most Sonic games pre-Forces. They tended to outsource the most important/impactful cutscenes to animation studios, I assume so they can appear more cinematic. I won't lie, I kind of miss it.
it's amazing how everyone forgets this is the only modern Sonic game where you can use Super Sonic at will once you finish the Eggman's Sonic Simulator and unlock the 7 emeralds.
Like your unleashed review this is very refreshing review to hear. Sonic Colours is one of my favourite 3D sonic games & was & still is a fantastic follow up to unleashed. Looking forward to the Generations video, that ones my favourite game in the series
11:38 To be fair, Spindash was quite useless in Rush, sice the speed it gave to you was so little you coudn't even clear a slope. I do like how rolling works in Rush, tho
Sonic games aren't about the story. They're gameplay focused. It's with Adventure 1 that people expect good stories in Sonic games even though the series wasn't about that before.
Honestly, i don't have quite as much fun with this game as i used to, but the vitriol some modern fans have for this game is really weird. People compare this game unfavorably to Forces, a game that barely has level design. I really don't get it.
Happy tree friends isn't even close to being written and tonely similar to sonic colours Trust me I don't like htf but the issues and tonal problems are completely different to sonic colours writing and story
Eh?... I find both version neck and neck honestly. DS may have better level design, but the console version has way more to do content wise. Even so, I personally just like the first two Rush games more
always a joy when spontman. AAAGGGHHH. idk how i feel about sonic colors. i really hated the transition from the previous games that were black and white. and now they're doing this whole "tv in color" thing, and it's honestly disgusting. idk what the FLIP kind of dark magic they used to do this, but it scares me. technology has come to far. #bringbackblackandwhiteTV WAKE UP AMERICA
I hate how they kept hiring the same writer that had SAID he wasnt a sonic fan and had never played a sonic game before, even though EVERYONE hated and had expressed it. Even in FORCES I'm pretty sure Ken was the lead writer, and it shows. Thank god Ian Flynn is here now. EDIT: I also had to mention that Colours was the first game to use no Motion Capture as far as I know, which is why it looks slightly more off. It's good in Frontiers but I think the animators weren't fully used to it yet
Exactly my problem with boost Sonic, if i wanted a 2D platformer, i would play a Sonic 2D game. Not a Sonic game being sold for being a 3D platformer, where the actual platforming action happens on 2D sections.
The game was great for its time but now people are looking back on of many flaws of the game and I understand why this was the first Main Line Sonic game that they changed the writers and the writers openly admitted that they really didn't care about the characters that much and it showed. Since the game was on the Wii and the Wii was not HD console some things did not hold up as well as others especially to cut scenes. And again I'm not saying that 2D is bad but you can tell when developers are using 2D to complement the gameplay as that is using it just to pad out the game length. And it doesn't help that the remaster may even original game look better for some aspects. So the game is good it just have some problems well at least I think it's good
I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one The levels are far too short and there's way too many 2d sections Respect you opinion and nice review tho
@@SonicTheCutehog the other acts of unleashed are 1 mostly optional 2 longer and more enjoyable then sonic colours other acts And 3 theres no where near as much of them as colours
@@ARandomGamer910 They're still a part of the game and are even shorter than Colors' levels. You're playing less than a quarter of the game if you only play the first act day stages like most Unleashed stans do, so how can it be a good game if you like less than half the game?
@@ARandomGamer910 They aren't enjoyable at all. The exact opposite actually. The optional acts in Unleashed are very boring, poorly designed, and most don't even last half a minute. Colors Acts 4-6 are better designed even with the few complete duds like Sweet Mountain Act 4 and the levels that use the moving spring platform.
3:46 Child: Daddy, what's "Flanderization"? Dad: "Flanderization" is a pretentious alternative to words like "Simplified" or "Exaggerated". It's not in the official Dictionary, so it doesn't exist.
Sonic Colors is a trash game: - Gameplay became much worse if we compare Colors to Unleashed and Generations - Graphics are ok... For a 2010 game, but the remaster of Colors, Colors Ultumate is real trash in graphics. - Story and characher development is the most pathetic part of this game. Before Colors, Sonic was really a cool hero. BUT SONIC COLORS RUIND EVERYTHING... Sonic became a clown who can only tell stupid jokes. Also the same with Tails, he could save the city alone, without Sonic's help, now Tails is just a kid who is always scared of EVERYTHING. Also from this game Sonic is voiced by Roger Craig Smith. I mean, he is a cool VA, but remember who he replaced? Jason Griffith!! He was a perfect VA for Sonic...
-WOW, comparing a Wii game to XBOX 360 games? How fair -How is Colors' fault that Ultimate is a terrible remaster? -Oh boy, story. Yes, the story is a mess, but these games aren't focused on story, these are platformers that focus on gameplay. "But the 2000s games-" You mean the games with insanely flawed stories that almost never make sense? Yeah sure
Its a good videogame, however its not a good sonic game. For me sonic colors is more of a platformer then a sonic game, and if i wanted to play a platformer there are way better options out there.
Bruh. To be honest, SC is a bad game, and I still do not understand why people still think differently. Childish story, stupid jokes, reused bosses, and 2D gameplay, that leaves you tired from it. Unleashed was way better, you have balanced stages, nice story with drama, and great and fast gameplay. But since Tomoya is still in Sonic Team from Unleashed times, soundtrack there is probably the only great thing about this game.
Could you be more specific? I mean it's fine if you don't like the game but just saying it reuses bosses and it has 2D in it isn't enough of a reason to say Colors is a bad game. I agree the story is bad though.
@@spritvio639 2D doesn't have any speed, double jump barely has any signals of using it, so it's especially hard to use it in gameplay. Levels are about 1.5 minutes, storyline is absolutely dumb for kids 4+, and bosses, that are repetitive, take 3 shots to kill max, and their design just sucks(I mean, cmon, in SA2 you was fighting cosmic demons, in Sonic Frontiers you was fighting against The End, and then you see bosses in Sonic Colors. Bleh) Hope that's enough. DS version is much more polished and better.
@@traviscunningham7062 sonics games innovate more But ryo Both mario and sonic are two of the most important franchises of all time and there what got me into gaming so they both mean more then the world to me
