It's insane how much better the game looks now. I am forever grateful that the Sonic community is filled with talented people who can pick up the slack when the people behind these projects drop the ball.
@@teenageapple3788 Eh I'm personally not a huge fan of that name. But I suppose it would be more fitting seeing as that's what the Reach for the Stars remix is called.
Now I just want a mod that combines the smaller stages into Act 1s and 2s, which what was originally intended, kind of like what Sonic Generations Project Colors is doing.
istg i made a comment somewhere saying that "if the game's not that good you can trust modders to fix it" getting a reply going "people only really mod games that they like or are popular it won't happen to this" i feel so vindicated right now
In this case it's a remaster of a game people like so it kinda helped the interest to an extent because outside of Bluwolf the game's modding scene omega died for a while last i saw
I ran the game in two windows, one with the mod, one without. I was thankfully able to capture footage of them in sync, but they would frequently differ because of the old stuttering issue i mentioned.
This looks great!! It's honestly baffling how Ultimate turned out the way it did, but I had no idea that the original Colours was made with Nintendoware and Blind Squirrel didn't have access to it :o
I never realized just how much motion blur the original sonic colors ultimate had, the game looks so much better without it. The clarity and more cleanly saturated colors in re-rainbow make it so much easier to look at, the modders did a really good job on it
This looks amazing I’m glad to see your channel is doing well I haven’t been around much but glad to see you’re still making top quality content keep it up.
Omg it’s beautiful my boi is finally getting the glow up it deserves 😭 Bro we need this now if sega is willing to updating and giving Frontiers a new ending then they got to get these people to redo colours ultimate
This mod makes everything look better, genuinely, it looks great. But I have a tiny nitpick. Unless the Sonic model is unfinished(entirely possible), I think I prefer the base model of Sonic, but good work modders, really good job.
I don't think you know how much time and effort goes into making these changes. They don't just flick a switch and the game looks different, this took a lot of work resulting in overwhelmingly improved visuals.
@@Garrulous64Yes it looks great without motion blur. But i personally like bloom in some levels. Instead of buying the game again on pc you could just play modded one on dolphin
Haven’t seen this channel in a long time. Good to see it’s evolved from a “faceless game commentary” channel to a “pog face/surprised Pikachu face in every thumbnail” channel lol
Sonic fans turning Sega's demasters into the remasters they should've been in the first place! Still remember getting Sonic Adventure DX and 2 Battle on GameCube as a kid thinking "Two of my favs are on the same system as Melee, Battle for Bikini Bottom and Rogue Squadron!" even if I already owned the Dreamcast originals only to get rid of the GameCube versions 2 days after I got them. The downgrades on those releases are awful enough to make a 5 year old like me get offended. These mods as well as emulation are the reasons PC is the definitive Sonic platform. Any game series as a matter of fact. Once you go PC you can never go back to consoles. I'm even waiting patiently for PC releases for Ghost of Tsushima, Demon Souls and God of War Ragnarok to get ported to PC after my short-lived experience with my PS5. "Patience." - Obi-Wan
Its crazy that this group fixed a game left busted by mega corporation with a bunch of employees, and they didnt get paid aside form being a smaller team.
9:45 So the hedgehog engine is not just a graphics engine then.. what sonic team said in dev convention is to port the hedgehog game engine to the wii, not the graphics side. This is new knowledge, bc many people still think sonic colors on Wii using hedgehog graphics engine.
I love the gameplay section but it could have been fun to have it fade into the modded version, as with such small boxes, the dramatic improvements are harder to identify. It by no means made it unwatchable or not entertaining though, just a nitpick, loved the video and love the mod
I agree. I originally planned to fade back and forth, but neglected to include that in that section. Partially due to how long the comparison was already, but if i ever do something like this again I will make sure to try it that way instead.
Some of the light emitting objects, like the lights on the "No we have Rainbow Road at home" part, look better in Ultimate since they glow like lights DO. But the rest is far better on the mod. If they could do away with the bloom on Sonic's body completely like in Unleashed, it'd be even better though. Colours Sonic was always too shiny.
Also feel the need to defend my boy the werehog here. I know people hate button mashing, but what are the Sonic Colours boss combat sections aside from "A A A A A A (BOOM!)" Justice for the werehog.
I see where you're coming from, but the Colors boss fights don't force you into an entirely different gameplay style to button mash for 15 minutes to the same repetitive music track for more than half the game.
@@Garrulous64 I mean 2 of colors boss fights effectively do that by forcing you into semi automatic pure quick stepping and if you aren't good with the Wisps (and even than) do they take dozens of homing attacks to go down (I'm talking about the 2 ship boss fights in case you didn't notice)
First there was the Dreamcast Conversion mod for Sonic Adventure 1, then there was Sonic P-06, now there’s Project Re-Rainbow……how tf do fans do a better job at porting games than the company themselves?
I weirdly like lighting effect they gave sonic in ultimate gives it unique spin i feel could done it better. Still hated the i the reflection in eyes it bother me to no end
I prefer Unleashed over Colors personally. I can't stand the Boost gameplay. The issue with the Werehog to me could have been easily correct with the removal of the Level up system. Give us the werehog at full power right away so he could mow through enemies easily and quickly. that would solve the issue with the levels allowing the Puzzles to be what keep the levels from being super short but not super tedious. Or if they want the Werehog to get stronger progressively and naturally then have it to were whenever the werehog beats a Dark Gaia boss he abosrbs the essence from it and gets stronger, maybe with a plot point that as he gets stronger the werehog gets more and more unruly from the increaseing amount of Dark Gaia's energy within him? I know they were going for a God of war thing with the Werehog, but the fact is Sonic needs to be fast. Even as a Werehog, he's still Sonic on the inside. If you don't agree thats fine but I've seen people play through Werehog stages all maxed out and there way faster when the enemies aren't a chore. Oh..and redo the battle music. Either give each region its own unique theme...or save the battle themes only for certain points.
I think i agree with the full power Werehog idea. I think the RPG level-up mechanics in Unleashed are pretty unnecessary to begin with so having Sonic be at his best both for Day stages and Night stages immediately would cut out a lot of tedium. It's like how people who like Sonic and the Secret Rings say it gets a lot better when Sonic is at a high level with all the skills. Before that it just drags the entire game down.
@@Garrulous64 agreed, Frontiers did it pretty okay maybe making the upgrades more akin to SA1 or SA2 in the sense that in each level there's one or two items you can collect that increase your strength and defense? Perhaps also all the Combos are available from the get go and you have to learn them just by experimenting? But also perhaps people in the hubs could tell you about them for hints? That way on repeat playthroughs you will already remember the combos and can do them making learning the game more rewarding Which was a big part of the Genesis Sonic games learning the environment and being rewarded.
One thing I don’t like is that the blur that shows up when Sonic boost is taken away, so boosting looks no where near as good looking or satisfying as generations and unleashed. At least imo. Or is there a setting that turns it off?
We need to stop the colours ultimate hate. I play it on switch, so I get the worst end of the stick when it comes to everything, but now that some of the glitches have been fixed, the game is amazing and is in my opinion worth getting.
Not gonna happen. Asking $40-$60 for a broken, haphazard and ridiculously rushed rerelease of what was once a perfectly serviceable and genuinely well made Sonic game should be chastised, not excused. The devs had no say in how things went down as they rarely ever do in these situations (which just makes it worse really), but SEGA should have known better and deserves to be clowned on.
@@satelliteprime yeah even I can’t not clown on sega for doing that. But looking at the game in today’s context, it’s a whole lot better and it doesn’t deserve more hate. It’s like a child that was abused by the parents, which caused it to be broken and feel lacking, but still deserves love.
@@That_Kasual_Gamer idk it seems like, even at its best, Ultimate is a worse version of Colors with poorly implemented extra content so why shouldn't people keep giving them shit for it? Sure they improved it over time but it's still lacking and it ain't free either. Also you can acknowledge a dev team was screwed over but still say it's bad and/or lackluster, it just means you point the blame at the correct party and understand why it's the way it is.
I don't think some of the bugs caused by the increase to 60 FPS even happen on the Switch version since it runs at 30 FPS (just like the Wii version). Though the Unlimited Colors glitch that I'm pretty sure was Switch-exclusive should've absolutely been patched before launch...
betting it doesn't actually work, because this modded shit never works even when I follow the instructions they give then they act like it's MY FAULT. SO TIRED of asshole developers.
@@Garrulous64lots of times I try to install these things they just don't work when I do it even when I follow text tutorials. it's all just getting ridiculous. I'm glad it's working for you, but I'm not you.
When the mod releases, all you need to do is have the Hedge Mod Manager, make sure it can see the install location of Sonic Colors Ultimate (Steam or Epic), create a mods folder in the install location, place the mod there, and enable it in the mod loader. It will work, i promise.
