a neat feature would’ve been if you beat all the rival rush levels you get metal sonic as a playable or maybe an episode metal unlocked and completing it unlocks him through that way
God damn it I was hoping he actually would be unlocked once all were completed. It’s fucking bullshit that he’s not unlockable. Though it’s Sega so I’m not that surprised
I like that Metal Sonic is still able to follow Sonic in Starlight Carnival even without the purple path beneath him. Since he's literally flying, he doesn't need it.
fun fact; the road is and always has been just a shader, the actual hitboxes are always there, so the fact they used the same technique in this port makes sense as to how Metal can fly like that
@@elmemearana While I don't have colors in my top 10 best Sonic games, I've seen SO MANY people hyped for this game, and I'm pretty sure this is the favorite 3D Sonic game for most reviewers, which is what Sega aims for
@@Eman02kG I think the game has "rubber banding AI". Used as well in games like Mario Kart. If the enemy does better, it doesn't get too far ahead, and if you do better, it doesn't get behind. This keeps the races "interesting" (I don't like it, but it's true that casual players have a better time this way)
Ah well, i think they could've done more with this, maybe have Metal Sonic attack you when he gets close? If he's not gonna do anything other than be a ghost, i think a time trial mode would be better suited. And still think this game looks too blurry at times, it's kinda hard to see...
@@supermannygamer2003 a race can be made interesting with more elements than just running through the same stages again. If that's the case, they shoul've just made a time trial mode. (Could have online surport too, i dunno)
I mean I suppose it makes some sense as to why He had no intention of hurting or killing Sonic, just proving he’s better than him Plus, CDs final boss was racing Metal to get Amy. But that was the final boss and this is a side mode So, yea it’s pretty sad we didn’t get any attacks but Metal seems to keep up pretty well and the level can be quite janky so it pays off
Dang, it’s just a ghost mode. I expected something like in Sonic CD where Metal uses his own boost and tries to slow you down, but it’s just a ghost. Metal Sonic even homing attacks enemies that you already destroyed
The only problem I have with ultimate is that they just put alot of glow everywhere, and it kinda bugs me how the rings aren't golden, they look orange
"Only problem", you can barely play the game for 2 seconds without it glitching, they gave an already easy game a forced easy mode, the music remixes like asteroid coaster act 3 suck and don't fit the themes, you have to pay extra for the aquarium park remixes, the new wisp is useless, etc
@@arzfan29 I made it short because I'm pretty sure everyone knows that ultimate sucks, just slapping it with 60fps, 4k resolution with clearer textures would have been fine enough
@@PieStudios Bro, I left three comments. I'm not "everywhere in the comments" at all. Mind your own damn business. I should be saying "find something better to do" to you. You're in the comments WAY more than me.
I feel Metal needs to present more of a challenge. You outpace him WAY too easily. I don't want him to just be behind me, I want him to actually rival me! Make me nervous like the CD race! You might as well be playing the stages without him lol. That's just how I feel about it... imma still enjoy the game, but theres also a lot to be desired from it. :T
If you play casually he will MOST of the time out pace you in a stream I saw the streamer got destroyed the first time you basically have to speedrun it
It feels like the Doppelganger Races in Generations. Besides multiplayer, I hope there's more to this like a difficulty setting and maybe Metal Sonic trying to attack you to slow you down like Shadow in Gens.
if they built it from scratch, they could've made a level specifically for Rival Rush as a Separate Act instead of reusing another, maybe using the Full Stage
@@Storm725 well yeah, but i still think this mode has tons of missed potential like making Metal Sonic do stuff like use the wisps, homing attack you when he gets close, boost? Maybe?. This is practically a ghost race
@@brinst_ar Stuff like doing the wisps, i agree, boosting can be solved by overall bumping up metals speed, and attacking depends on HOW it attacks. Sounds stupid but i don't want the Generations 3ds attack-rubberband combo
this pop up is the most fangame thing I've ever seen, no animation, no sound, art looks rip straight from official art, is this game made from GameMaker?? EDIT: Glad to see they STILL not fixed the audio panning issue
Nah. It’s made in Godot lol. This remaster looks pretty mediocre compared to other remasters. The new content done to look all that good and I’m surprised by the amount of glitches.
@Dank Harvey review copies aren’t early builds. They’re the retail release given out early to reviewers, hence the game. Unless there’s a day one patch, the game’s launching like this
@@catsorafgc I think this remaster might be mediocre due to Blind Squirrel Games working on it. I can't find any of their work to see if it's crappy, so I can't say that with certain. They also could have been rushed. Since most recent Sonic games seem to be rushed a bit.
@@Tomi-berry Basically a cheap way of making the ai seem harder but really it's just the game giving it an unfair advantage. For example, if you're playing Mario Kart and you're way ahead of an ai controlled racer it will effortlessly catchup to you out of nowhere and could potentially screw you over.
@@sonichasafishonhishead1462 Even then, I can commend them for not placing a big price tag. But really, Skyward Sword HD, in my opinion anyway, is really a shaft port with no new content and barely changed graphics and with the 60 dollar price tag, I dunno. Just feels greedy. I ain't tryna devilize your opinion though. I'm only saying.
Sometimes it’s really hard to tell if I can’t see Metal because (A) they made him too easy to beat (B) they made him really insignificant in his screen time, or (C) the screen is too busy blurring with boost effects
I knew it, this would be exactly like the doppelganger missions in Generations. A measly ass time attack shit. Why can't Metal Sonic attack you while you race? Why's he not difficult? Like, at the very least, not easy mode at all? Why can't attack you and you can attack him back, similar to how you can attack Shadow and he can attack you in Generations boss fight while the both of you go after the power orb???
Simple, Colors levels are not made for that. Metal attacking you in CD/Mania works because notice the lack of bottomless holes? Or Springs? Or anything that would be a massive setback (if not instant death) if you were to get hit at the wrong time? Metal races work well in those games because those levels were made with those races in mind. Color's weren't. >"Then make new levels" This is a remaster, not a remake or reimagining. Lower your expectations.
@@JustSomeLego Can't Metal Sonic home attack you and the only way to avoid it is for you to jump so he can't hurt you? Can he not shoot anything at you like how Shadow threw chaos spears at you??? Cmon, I shouldn't have to give examples on how to make something like this more of a challenge
@@MarjanAmbroze The problem isn't that they don't have a moveset to use, the problem is that getting hit at the wrong time (over a pit, during a scripted sequence) could unfairly kill you or just break the level as a whole and create a point you can't progress from. Colors is still a boost game after all, there are a lot of automation segments that being hit during would ruin the entire run.
Or maybe online multiplayer where the other person can choose they're character Like in sonic team racing But this is sega we're talking about, that will never happen
@@onthedre No it isn't, you can tell a clear difference. The shine on the metal gives it away. The fan render had the shine on the top of the head and the model was a lighter blue. The icon now is darker blue, and has the shine in the centre of the face
@@callmezeldaonemoartime Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't hear about it. Look at one of TWIP's earlier videos, he talks about it. However, it does seem they were just using it as a placeholder as they're using an official model now. It was stupid of them to use the fan render in the first place when they have their own Metal Sonic renders, but they changed it before the game released, so I think they can be forgiven.
It would make sense that the review copy of a game would STILL be a build before the FINAL build. We still technically have a week before the full release.
Metal Sonic’s animations are just a reskinned Super Sonic. Think about it, his starting pose is identical to Super Sonic’s when he is activated, and his full speed run is identical to Super Sonic’s.
So how is this more hype than the Dopplegänger races in Generations exactly? You beat a level and then you have to beat it again, that's it. Metal doesn't pose any challenge, except the sorta time limit which you won't even be bothered by if you play the game semi-competently, much like how it was in Gens with the double races. As someone else pointed out too, wow, that pop-up. Was this seriously what they advertised so hard?
Rip Floating Orange Sphere (DS Versus Mode 2010-2021) ...but I'm at least I'm happy that some DS content got in Ultimate. Let's hope that the handheld era gets something later.
Won't they remove the spring sound when Sonic uses a dash pad? Do they put this sound on purpose? Since the first gameplay video that i watched they don't fix it.
@@chrange9714 Dash pads aren't supposed to play the spring sound, just the dash pad sound. It's like that in literally every game (OG Colors included) except this remake.
Well here is the thing about it that I looked up on the wiki fandom page about Sonic Colors Ultimate, apparently for the sound aesthetics it said that the spring bouncing sound was also used for the Dash Rings, Rainbow Dash Rings, and Dash Panels too. At first when I heard that sound occurred in the announcement trailer and gameplay videos, I thought that they might have mistakenly put it there a mixed it with the other sound effects for them.
@@boltthelunarian1405 But I don't understand why they used the spring bounce sfx in dash panels and dash rings. I thought this was a bug when I saw the first gameplay video. And I'm not the only one who bothers with this, I read others comments from other people that think this is annoying too.
Out of all the acts they could have used for the rival rush in Aquarium Park, you choose act2. WHY? That's one of the worst. Hopefully the modders can make the whole game better and realize the potential for mods and not let it die like with Team sonic racing.
Maybe it’s my lack of Modern Sonic experience and/or it’s the fact I play it on switch but the Rival races are a pretty difficult for me so far. (I’m on planet Wisp now and it is difficult)
rivals 100% it was based on racing an opponent and tbh that game is majorly underrated but when playing Ultimate the ready beep noises are actually from rivals which i thought was a neat feature
As bad as Rivals was, the rival races were A LOT more fun than in Colors Ultimate. In Rivals, Metal Sonic could keep up with you and copy everyone's abilities. In SCU, he's slower than Sonic, can't boost, and gets lost in the stage once you press the boost button. They might as well have Tails follow you instead, since Metal won't even attack you or try to slow you down to win the race.
God this is so stupid. What was the point of having Metal Sonic if you're gonna be nothing more than a Ghost Race mode? Just make it time trial at this point, and that somewhat already existed with the Eggman Ship thing. I was expecting it to be a battle but every time Metal Sonic got close he just did...nothing. Also holy SHIT the lighting in this engine looks like piss: way too much bloom that you can barely see shit properly. Like every other color is just blown out too harshly.
I feel like the tropical resort rival race was basically a tribute to the sonic cd animation on where sonic and metal raced each other, because of the turns and music.
Since this a review copy, i don't think this is the final version. At 2:44 the rocket doesn't have the jelly bean explosion like it usually does but in the rise of wisps credits, they fixed that
Mate, this is the final version. They don’t sell the game the very day they finish it, they have to make copies. And Sonic live has already said it’s the final build
You mean the game that releases in a little less then a week? This is definitely the final version. They first have to finish making the game, and they’ve been getting multiple copies. Meaning they finished awhile ago.
As a person who played Colors Ultimate(through early access), the rings don't fill up your boost. Only Wisps and homing attacking enemies with the Sweet Spot does.
@@supersandwichking5638 Yeah, it's sort of confusing for me too. Guess assuming that being in interstellar parks cancel rings filling up boost meters is now canon.
@@dalaxdercrisper957 Who said I was upset? I'm baffled. Surprised. Jeez. Guess I can't have other emotions then; Happy or Upset. I'm very much aware the original game is out, I own the copy. I'm just surprised to see it being 100% in few hours.
Would be awesome if metal sonic are controlled by player instead of Ai and also if you can change the rival rush soundtrack to vs metal sonic in sonic forces or stardust speedway
Two of these races remind me of racing games that would follow Colors where Sonic and Metal can race against each other but in sports cars Starlight Carnival - Transformed Planet Wisp - Team Sonic Racing
He looks way too glossy and dark to see here. Because, reasons? It's disappointing considering we thought this was either online multi-player or just like, sonic rivals? Well I do like the time trial approach but it should be in every stage and act for it to be worth anything. There Needs to be more!
@@SonicRidersBR Well, it's the same level, don't expect something new. It's just the exact same thing, but this time, you must speedrun it, that's all.
@@shitpost-o-matic7469 well why not? the graphics look better, it's more vibrant and saturated, and the animated shorts were cool. not only that you get special items, remixed music and you have a new wisp ability, i'm not trying too say that the original game was bad it's my favorite sonic game after all, but the ultimate is the ultimate and that's why i think that the new sonic colors game is better!
Its basically just a time trial. I kinda wish halfway through metal would do litte things like. Lay down mines or occasionally just stop the race and attack sonic. Little things to add some flavour to it.
