People really turned on Colors huh? When it first released in 2010 people were hyping it up as one of the best Sonic games and were saying Sonic was finally good again. Now it's being compared to the likes of Forces.
What made Colors one of the best to many people, is why opinions have changed on it nowadays. At the time it came out at a time after a bunch of ok to bad games. So it was a breathe of fresh air to many people. Now, after so many games took the wrong lessons from Colors it is viewed a lot less fondly. I would still say it overall still has a good reputation though. You aren't gonna see many people put it below B tier.
When it comes to Sonic Colors, I personally never minded the extra acts (mostly anyway, the spring levels and Sweet Mountain Act 4 suck). The worst I find them is small and inoffensive, but there are times when I think they can be fun - like Aquarium Park Act 2. When played the safe way - jumping from platform to platform, using the cube wisp and barely taking any risks - I think the stage is just meh. But when I tried a more daring and speed focused way, I was genuinely surprised how the level became better. Using the airdash, the stomp, trying to avoid falling into the bottomless pit and make precise jumps platform to platform - I stayed on that act for quite some time trying to improve my time.
Whilst Colors has the better 3D level design, I personally believe that Forces is still better in keeping the pace and flow most of the time because you don't need to stop and wait that often like in Colors, especially its 2D sections.
Sonic forces is always going to be the worse boost game. And to note about the story, they don't have any reason in game as to why the wisp aliens are back, nor any reason or explanation about the wispons. Hell, the antagonist lineup was inconsistent and I feel like you could sue Sega for not being able to actually fight Chaos and Shadow.
For me Forces is better by quite a bit, I find it to have better controls and level design, and I actually prefer the best Classic stage over most of Colors stages
trying to reply colors on the switch I had way less fun with it than I did when I originally played it on the Wii, and maybe I was just a kid but man those filler levels killed the playthru for me
I actually found more enjoyment out of forces. Both games control terribly both games have poor level design but found forces had less frustrating and faster levels I really like this OC customization Other than the two Tails cutscenes they were a lot less fun to watch in Colors Yes Classic sonic sucks in forces Also forces feels like an Arcade game from the music to the sound to even the graphics Both games are mid but I found less frustration (other than the two Tails cutscenes) in Forces
