People don't give enough credit to the Babylon Rogue's designs, specifically Jet's. Having him contrast with Sonic with not only being a bird, an animal that's fast in the air, but also his color scheme, with him being green with blue irises, while Sonic is blue with green irises. He just looks cool in general and is probably my favorite Sonic rival next to Metal Sonic.
Knuckles always was a treasure hunter. It’s one of his favourite pastimes. He says so in the OVA. Rouge even calls him one before their character battle in SA2, and so does Sonic before Death Chamber. The recent TailsTube confirms that he explores Angel Island and discovers new things “every day” while finding it fascinating. Zero Gravity actually is a highlight for the character for me.
Seeing Jet and Sonic cross paths in that x-formation as a parallel to Sonic Adventure 2 makes me happy every time I see it. Jet deserves a chance to be in other games. Who decided not to include the Babylon Rogues in Team Sonic Racing?
One time I was watching some Riders Gameplay and noticed how similar the Level design is to Boost Levels. It made me think that Sonic Team should take the whole 3 Laps thing for Boost Level in the Next Mainline game to make them Last Longer than 1 minute. They’d just have to modify the level design for every lap so they don’t get stale
Some of the Unleashed DLC levels do that actually! There's one Cool Edge level that does have sonic taking three laps around the same area and there's new obstacles on every lap! It was a really hard level though because the thing had you running on water the whole time
About 28:00 From what I remember Knuckles has been stated several times to be a treasure hunter on the side, or at least he USED to be. It doesn't come up in games much anymore but I always thought that's what led into Rouge's theme of jewel THIEF, to be the antagonist to his regular hunting methods
Yeah it's kind of his side thing when he's not protecting the island or hanging out with sonic. I don't think we've ever seen him actually do much treasure hunting but it's been mentioned a few times.
13:15 I had the ps2 version. I don't remember much how exactly but if you lingered arround the start without pressing buttons the tutorial would also appear. I was lucky at the time to watch it play and i really liked sonic riders from that point on. Have you tried mission mode? I don't remember much but it also offered quite the challenge, specially to unlock everything needing to get the max rank. And i loved to speedrun the races. Also there is the mechanic of jumping "higher" or jumping "foward" to get to the tracks above which are shortcuts, holding the jump button while pressing fowards (foward jump) or backwards (high jump). Imagine young me when i really liked sonic riders, being excited for a new sonic riders game, only to find out Zero gravity is not as skill-based as the previous one. I still liked Zero gravity. But then i was older. I was like "U'm all the sequels of sonic riders. I have playstation 3, surely the sequel will come out in this console..." ...Then free riders came out only for x box and only with kinect. -and the funny thing is that there is this game for ps2 called "eye toy antigrav"- -Is it a coincidence or did they have a good game idea and then they went and did the mario kart thing again. im still enraged.-
I actually haven't had a chance to check out mission mode, I usually don't go out of my way to do the optional content in a sonic game (I hate getting the chaos emeralds in the 2D games) but if it's just more Sonic Riders content then I'll probably check it out at some point. I did eventually learn the jumping higher and forward mechanic near the tail end of my first playthrough when I was stuck on Dark Desert for so long so I looked up why my opponents kept landing further than me off jumps and found out that's why. Free Riders ruins all good things. Thanks for watching!
It's not a bad game at all, it's just not what I personally wanted from a sequel to riders but I'm glad you were able to find more enjoyment in it than I could. Thanks for watching!
This is absolutely hilarious! I’m watching this video with a huge smile on my face! Hoping to see you grow in likes and subscribers very soon, and I can’t wait to see more of your videos! Also the “after bailing Knuckles out-“ after saying Knuckles might get arrested was absolutely clever!
Do some research & check out the mods of Sonic Riders: Riders DX 2.0 & Sonic Tournament. you get a whole bunch of re-balancing and lots of new stuff with either mod. Apparently, Zero gravity has a mod called Regravitified, too.
Sonic Riders is my favourite racing game. I grinded it into dust as a kid, and picked it up again a few years ago, still amazed by how fun the gameplay is. Sadly, the game is pretty lacking in content with a measly 15 racetracks, and a forgettable battle mode. I was very excited for Zero Gravity, only to find out that the gameplay was changed drastically and taking away the things that I found fun in the original Riders game. I still don't like it. Also, I imagine Sonic drives a car in most racing games just for the fun of it, nothing deep about that.
Yeah Riders really set the groundwork for an incredible sequel that we just never got since Zero Gravity and Free Riders just did their own thing. Hopefully sometime in the future we'll get a 4th game that's more like the first
Fun fact about speed characters' grind rails, you don't have to press the jump button when you're near them, just at some point between entering the air and passing the grind rail. You can test this on Sky Road; open the race with a high jump on the right(?) side of the ramp, press the jump button at your peak, and you should just start grinding on the rail when you land. Double jumping essentially places the character in a grind state, which I assume is far easier to track AND pull off than just having you press the jump button near a grind rail.
Zero Gravity's got a soft spot for me. Played it a ton as a kid and it sparked an interest in hoverboards for me. For Sonic in particular tho, it feels perfect for him if he had to ride anything. Got no idea why they don't pop up more. I never played the original. Honestly didn't even know it existed until years later, but even then didn't have a way to play it. Nobody likes downgrades, but I can see why they did it. Especially when I think about how it was basically the only game all the kids wanted to play at summer school during break.
Sonic Riders was amazing, I always played the original from time to time. Have such fond memories of this game despite the fact I never knew all the mechanics
I suggest you to spend atleast a month on Free Riders in the Tutorial and Levels (outside & inside Story even though it sucks far more than Zero Gravity) before planning a video because characters don't response right with inputs and it took a long time to figure out why I struggled so much. Super Sonic's flight and personality is complimented by Sonic's Blue Star especially with his X Rank Freestyle Trick, should've talked about that in video. The Magic Carpet, Digital Dimension, technology Wave knows of for Extreme Gear and all the stuff we've seen in the first game such as on level Babylon Garden makes Zero Gravity's extra hints clear that they're decendants of Aliens and it is necessary to have the additional secrets and things revealed to us.
Yeah it’ll be a while before I play Free Riders (still don’t have the correct Kinect lol) but when I do I’ll do my best to learn how to actually make the game work properly haha. Thanks for watching!
All of it just clicked with me as a kid so I never considered how little they explained how to do anything. It explains why I've seen so many people dislike it over the years.
From what I’ve heard Sonic want to play fair because if he used his speed then it’s unfair so yeah that’s why he’s in a car. Also still desperately finding a gamecube memory card and a copy of Sonic Riders/Shadow the Hedgehog
How can you not mention Splash Canyon's theme from the first Riders, that's a banger to Also, fun fact: Knuckles is a treasure hunter, always has been even before SA1&2 actually, I believe the Japanese manuals mention this Even if not, it's not hard to believe that he came to like Treasure Hunting after the events of the Adventure games
