Speaking of Reichian stuff, an exploratory group I worked with did an Eno experimental piece that involved everyone blowing into bottles, following a set of rules, all the while walking circularly around the large dance studio. Ended up with everything naturally coming together in a composite sound that was tuned to the room resonance. Great performance piece.

Steve Reich in the afternoon, who would have thought it? I remember being blown away by his out of phase tape recordings at university, and discovering that the gaps / rests between the notes were equally as important as the notes played, which was probably why I used to hate those 'look how fast and how many consecutive notes I can murder' guitar solos from the 80s. Great topics and a great team of contributors this week. Interesting Nick.

nice episode, would be great if Pittsburgh Modular Richard Nicol made frequent appearances on Sonic TALK Podcast, maybe segments of sound design approaches with Taiga/keyboard, good show!

1) I have an old Casiotone M-10, modded as per Robin Whittle's suggestions. The notes generated by the "organ" patch tend to grind against each other by virtue of being ever-so-slightly out of phase with each other. Absolutely delicious. Stick a flanger on it and take the day off work. 2) I built a little vibrato unit, based on the old Magnatone amplifiers, that introduces a very gentle pitch wobble. Just out of curiosity, I decided to make it a stereo unit, with two completely independent LFOs driving two independent vibrato circuits. The original Magnatone amplifiers use a single LFO and countersweeps two vibrato circuits to produce their version of "stereo". But that just makes the effect seem to go back and forth from one channel to the other. Using a dual-ganged Rate pot in my build, I could make the two LFOs go similarly faster and slower. But though they were each ostensibly the identical circuit, they were juuuuust different enough from each other that they occasionally synced up, occasionally were opposite (one sharp, one flat), and occasionally perfectly synced. The same sort of approach seems to be part of the delicious chorus effect on some synths that employ multiple bucket-brigade chips. Very slight phase differences that keep changing can be a wonderful magical thing.

The Jeremie Carrier marimba piece you played, was a very cool piece, that basically is a live musician’s portrayal of the new Harmony Bloom sequencer software. Very nice!!

It's funny to see all the acoustic modeling stuff with every little detail of the space and the speakers but no accounting for how full the venue is. If you think of being in at an over-capacity sold out show vs. an empty show, the difference in the bass is more significant than any other factor. You could reverse the polarity on a subwoofer and it wouldn't change the sound as much as putting 500 people in front of it.

Great show and nice to see Ty back. He’s the rare white moose on Sonic 😊 Bless you Nick. At this point I’m weeding out every cringing shock-face, raised eyebrow face and teary eyes from my feed 😎 It’s so tiresome.

46:48 Making system music with software modular is such a joy - I use Voltage Modular with de-synced LFOs (and aCV to MIDI module) and running on a plugin host inside VM the world’s greatest rompler, XPand!2 It’s multitimbral, did you know? (jk) ❤

Strongly agree. Mainly analogue snobs do not. ROMplers are what inspired me most, what I love best, and what I'm a sucker for. Not to imply that I'm not into analogue synths, I do have a couple, but I have many more ROMplers, lol

Add, best/fastest chasis for nvme disks I could find is OWC Express 1M2. But it's pricey.
@sonicstate
@sonicstate 4 месяца назад
Thanks will take a look. The UGreen ones seem to work OK for ATEM ISO record and playback of 9 1080 HD video so pretty good
@KlemenKotar
@KlemenKotar 4 месяца назад
OWC might be an overkill. But it is the only chasis (afaik), that lets data through at maximum tb4 speed. Which is a little less than gen3 nvme drives can do.

You could do the YT sub thingie as well (like Pro Synth Network or Studio Life channels). 2.99$ usually. I'd subscribe.
